  1. Don't want Howell, I'm a pass on a QB from a basketball school, he's not impressive to me. From what I can see he's solid / good, but no ''elite'' trait that stands out to me. Seems like a high floor / low ceiling QB.
  2. You're also not ''competing'' without a quarterback, whether it's Watson, or someone else.
  3. If we are talking draft strategy, I think we need to trade back from #6, our depth is incredibly thin, and we'll need some cap magic just to navigate our own pending FA's not to mention trying to sign anyone. We wouldn't pick til' around #100, I don't think a player at #6 is better than adding picks given the state of the OL, that one player isn't fixing it.
  4. I recall two overwhelmed moments that stand out to me versus an all pro caliber guy in Shaq Barrett, and one other that does not immediately come to mind. For a rookie, and as a 3rd round pick I think he looked solid, and has something to build off of, the bar being Erving is not high, and Brady played above that with actual room to get better. People said Paradis was bad at C, yet those that review / grade felt otherwise about him also. I try not to let the ''standout'' bad plays be all that I think about. There's a lot of snaps over the course of a game / season.
  5. As it stands today (1/20/22) it looks like for whatever reason Rhule is going to be here for this upcoming season. With that poo in mind, I figured why not look at players under contract that we ''feel good about'' moving forward and where the offense could be if FA, and the draft play out well. Offense: QB - We don't have one, sorry Sam Darnold apologist, 4 seasons, two NFL teams, and the same turnover prone play at 18.8M next season. HB - CMC is great however we don't seem to know how to manage his touches / snaps, so availability is a concern; we still don't have a bigger running back to take some of the loads / hits off our main guy in GL, and short yardage this is an absolute necessity. Chuba flashed I'll give him that, be he seems to have terrible balance at times, and his hands out of the backfield are inconsistent; as it stands I don't see a lot of upside from him but I also can't ignore the poor play from the OL in the running game. WR - DJ & Robbie IMO are still a top duo in the league from a ''talent'' perspective, just see the avg QB play of TB and the fact the were both 1K receivers a year ago on a bad team, DJ is coming off a 3rd consecutive 1K season with bad QB play. In regard to TMJ and Shi, I like their skill sets so I am inclined to say I feel good about both, usage was on the staff IMO. TE - I had hope for Ian Thomas after the Arnold trade, but he never really did anything, could be the QB, could be the OL but you'd think the TE would be on of the easier completions for a QB to make given their proximity to each other. I still like his talent, but with Tremble looking to be the better blocker with the higher ceiling I think we're in a solid place at this position, more Tremble in the future is necessary. We need an OC that understands the value of the TE position and it's utilization. I'd like to see a veteran added to this group. T - Christensen (finally), and Moton; I think it's hard not to feel good about these two as a pair, Brady looked pretty damn solid as a rookie at his natural position (imagine that, playing a guy where they spent their entire collegiate career working out), and Moton overall anchored the right side, though he also had some bad moments. I am not against added a top talent at Tackle, I just think IOL proves to be the biggest offensive issue outside QB by the end of the season. IOL - Elflein, and Brown; Elf actually looked decent at C (also his natural position), the problem was being flanked by an UDFA in Jordan, and then Miller. For the life of me aside from ineptitude I cannot figure out why at the VERY least Deonte Brown was not a spot duty G for us throughout the season, he'd been playing at ALA all this time, and now all of a sudden we need him ''in shape''. Let the mauler maul, and get in shape while getting snaps and experience so we can truly see what we have; even in Week 17 his snaps were limited, why? Miller isn't better, and was often injured I think the staff screwed the pooch here all season. Overall Offensive Personnel Grade: (D+), a competent QB, better coaching, and just average IOL play could see this unit jump up to a B'ish grade IMO as it's hard to argue against the talent we have at the skill positions (DJ / Robbie / CMC). ------------------------------ What are your thoughts about our offensive personnel moving forward?
  6. Even in this scenario, the left over candidates would be better than Rhule, Bienemy, Flores, Pederson, Caldwell, etc.
  7. This is partly what I'm alluding to, why would O'Brien leave ALA knowing he could be looking at HC offers inside a year. Jay Gruden IMO makes no sense, Pep would be nice, but I don't want to subject the brother to Rhule. I don't want the Vikings guy, or a guy, that knew a guy from PHI.
  8. I just want to wake up to ''Breaking News'' Panthers fire Matt Rhule. Even if late to the HC hiring game, we can't do worse...
  9. So by now we've read, and seen the ''reports'' that Tepper supposedly wants a ''rockstar'' OC hire. My question as the title references...what happens if Rhule fails to hire said ''rockstar''? What will Tepper do then? As a fan this is my team, bad coach, roster etc.; however that can't be said for a marquee OC that is ''already established'' ________________________________________________ So as an OC candidate you come into a Panthers team that is 10-23 in two years, for what is shaping up to be a final season for Rhule and then you're right back on the market with little to show for it on your resume'. Why would any established OC put themselves in this position? You would inherit Darnold, and an OL that can be described at best as ''in flux'', the main guys under contract are: LT - Erving / Christensen LG - TBD C - Elflien RG - Brown RT - Moton Note - Paradis (ACL), Miller, Scott, and Jordan I believe are all expiring contracts* _______________________________________________ That is just not a very enticing core aspect of the offense to bet on yourself to work with, I would not be surprised if we didn't get anyone of notoriety at OC. Hopefully that is enough to prompt a firing for a guy in Rhule who can't put together an NFL level staff, and has to rely on his prior staff members from college.
  10. This, add Brady Christensen, and Deonte Brown, they BOTH looked way better than the ''vets'' ahead of them when they got snaps. See the way Fitt described how a LT specifically doesn't NEED ''longer arms'' IF he has good feet / technique. Brady had the collegiate grades he had as a LT for a reason, if memory serves he was the highest rated LT in the FBS, but he was already 24 (went to BYU). His combine testing had him as one of the MOST athletic OL in the class.
  11. Correct order >> Rhule, Temple, Baylor, what is culture...
  12. Shiiii, he may not have a choice, lol Rhule basically hired him.
  13. In his interview, it's after a question from Sheena Quick to close it out.
  14. The ''only'' votes of confidence came when guys were ASKED DIRECTLY. I do not believe I've seen anyone go out of their way to show support. When former all time Panther greats like Stew / Smitty, are essentially saying the coach doesn't know what he's doing then add in a guy like Boston that spent a ton of time here and he's also echoing that sentiment IMO is the ''voice of the current players''. No one is going to commit career suicide and toss their current coach under the bus.
  15. White is right. That's what life with Rhule has taught me in 2021.
  16. His options...I still don't see this happening for us, no early picks after our 1st, no OL, and an idiot for a coach. We'll be trotting Sam out there again like a new OC will matter.
  17. He's up for a contract, what do you expect him to say...
  18. If any of you think Darnold is closing the season on a win you're delusional.
  19. Stewart, Boston, and now Steve Smith.... I mean if this hasn't gotten to Tepper that at the very least two of the BEST Panthers all time are saying this is not a good look, I honestly do not know what will. Rhule defaced the team, and they tried to dismiss the heart of the team #keepponding motto....we didn't need a new culture, or a remake we needed someone to come in, and add to what we had what was in place. All Rhule has done is regress the team, less cap, less picks less offensive production. We were 7-9 in 2019, Ron was fired in December, in the 2020 and 2021 seasons we have TOTALED, let me repeat that TOTALED 10 wins as of the time of this post. 2019 - 7 wins 2020 - 2021 - 10 wins Rhule has no idea what he is doing, the on roster player support is fluff, if they didn't they'd derail their own careers.
  20. So Pickett, Howell, etc. have the same grades as Burrow, Lance, Mac, or Lawrence...this is not the year to ''swing'' this is the year to PREPARE to swing, so that when you do swing, you have a team / roster ready to usher in a rookie to IMPROVE his chances to succeed early. People have gone broke ''buying tickets''.
  21. CMC has a 2022 DEAD CAP hit of -- 26M to keep it simple -- 14M is his salary in 2022 -- so you'd be looking at a NEGATIVE cap hit of 12M aka you nerfed your own cap by doing this. (via Spotrac) Only way for something like this to work is to take ''less'' value in a trade so the receiving team will take on more of his GUARANTEED SALARY to lessen the dead cap hit -- I see little market for a HB that hasn't played a full season since 2019, and has the price tag he does. The money doesn't make sense -- we have DJ / Reddick / Jackson / Gilmore all to consider for extensions, and we need to add OL -- we can't afford to create negative cap space. We also owe Darnold 18.8M -- if we trade anything, we likely trade our 6th overall pick to acquire more draft stock because that will be the best way to add quality OL at a premium to the roster.
  22. 5 OL, all it takes is one to give up a sack.... BC has played well, and should have been starting much sooner, it was clear when we were .500 that Erving / Scott / Daley were not the answers at LT. Most of the sacks have been interior pressure.
  23. Justin Fields, and Mac Jones were also available, and Darnold was only on the hook for 4M at the time, so yes ''hand picked''.
  24. Beyond the OP, does he ''deserve'' the right to hand pick another...?
