For those that didn't follow the link, the 4 QBs Spotrac chose as comparable players were: Andy Dalton Jimmy Garoppolo Case Keenum Teddy Bridgewater

I'd be fine with that too. Cheap back up option with likely similar production. Darnold's age is what makes him a better option imo.

That was me and you’re misrepresenting what I posted. I said I’d like to see Darnold brought back for 2-3 years at 5-8mil per year. BUT, I also said the best case scenario would be Darnold having his worst game against the Saints so we could be on the lower end of that range. Lo and behold, my wish was granted and look where his value is now.

I’m interested. I’ve been concerned since reading he doesn’t have the best people skills and their QB coach handles a lot of those aspects. Makes him a great pairing with Wilks, but things could get ugly.

You don’t put any effort into your hobbies?

Spotrac is likely the best source for contract related NFL info. Based on their calculations regarding Sam’s performance and age, they expect his value to be equivalent to the #32 QB in the league. Thought that was interesting. Other than an elite rookie prospect, it seems Sam would be the ideal backup QB according to the most respected contract data site covering the NFL. Technically, he led a game winning drive as recently as [checks notes]…Sunday. No one is infatuated with Darnold. Saying he performed well enough this year to deserve a backup QB contract is not infatuation. It’s showing a capability of common sense that you’re lacking in this thread. There aren’t 15 better backup QBs in the NFL better than Darnold. Keeping him around for cheap would give us an above average backup QB situation. If you think having that opinion must be based on racism, I won’t stand in your way. Let the hate flow through you.

Last night, Bennett was throwing with anticipation into windows that I see some NFL starters struggle to hit. I won’t disagree AR may have the better potential, but he’s pretty far from being the passer Bennett is.
-
Agree about Bennett’s age. I still think he’s a better QB than AR right now.

So which QB do we think will be available at #9?
ECHornet replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Bears did have a great OL this year according to this: https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/34536376/2022-nfl-pass-rushing-run-stopping-blocking-leaderboard-win-rate-rankings-top-players-teams?platform=amp Top 5 in both pass and run block win rate. -
Hypothetical for 2024 draft: QBs are gone. We have our choice of Brock Bowers or Marvin Harrison Jr. Who should we take? Bowers is a beast but MHJr looks to be one of the better WR prospects in a while.

I’ve been a college first fan my entire life. Started shifting more to pro football in the last couple of years. Only thing that can turn the tide now is the return of the NCAA Football video game. I’ll probably play it a bit and it’ll ruin the nostalgia.

No one thinks Darnold is a top 15 QB. Pointing out that his stats this season would have ended up around 15th in a lot of categories doesn't mean he's a consistent, top 15 guy. It means that his stats were 15th in those categories, which is ~average production. There's about 4 of you on this thread struggling with comprehension. My final thoughts on Darnold (at least for today) because I'm tiring of the discussion: Darnold is likely a long term #20-40 QB in the league Darnold, at 25 years old, isn't a finished product even after 5 accrued seasons #25-40 QBs are worthy of a backup contract I was impressed by his performance in 2022 compared to all of our expectations I think it would be a good move to sign him ~2 years at 5mil per if he'd take it

We played 12 games after Rhule was fired. 2-4 in games without Darnold at QB. 4-2 with Darnold. Same coaches. Same running game. His completion percentage was tanked by his last game. I haven't been able to watch it yet, but seems like it was terrible. That's still the only big QB stat that was bad from him this year. He also had more yards per attempt than most NFL QBs (#2) so you would expect a slightly lower completion %. But you go on with your eye test assessment of Darnold 2022 and ignore all the stats that show he was decent.
-
He played over 1/3 of the season. It wasn't just a game or two. If we draft Levis and he becomes starter in Game 12 and puts up similar numbers, Huddlers will proclaim we've found our guy. They're the same age or right at it. lol Baker wasn't winning. PJ couldn't lead us to wins. Darnold enters, puts up the best stats of his career, and we go 4-2. That's back up worthy.

Sam Darnold in 2022 was the definition of average NFL starter. The majority of his rankings are around 15th in the league. QBR is built on a 0-100 scale with 50 being average. Darnold 2022 was 49.2. ---- If you can sign an average NFL starter for backup money, you do it. Even if you think he may regress to lower end starter to top end backup, it still makes sense value wise. Unless your plan is to tank. The tricky thing is, no one here knows if Sam's progress this year will continue or not.
