No worries, it’s not super clear that you need to keep reading with how they word it at the top.

You aren’t reading the rule right. Not all hits to defenseless players are illegal. He doesn’t have to become a runner first to hit him. Read that whole page and watch the video. Part B defines what is an illegal hit to a defenseless player. Part A is just defining what is a defenseless player. “Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is: forcibly hitting the defenselessplayer’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, even if the initial contact is lower than the player’s neck, and regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenselessplayer by encircling or grasping him lowering the head and making forcible contact with the crown or ”hairline” parts of the helmet against any part of the defenselessplayer’s body illegally launching into a defenselessopponent. It is an illegal launch if a player (i) leaves both feet prior to contact to spring forward and upward into his opponent, and (ii) uses any part of his helmet to initiate forcible contact against any part of his opponent’s body.”

The part you quoted is just part of defining the defenseless posture. You have to go down to part B to see what hits are illegal to players in a defenseless posture. Edit to add: The video in that link is helpful too. They show an example of a legal hit to a defenseless receiver who is trying to catch a ball.

Man I’m a Bryce stan and have been since pre draft and I don’t see what the problem is with analyzing a throw. The db was clearly in a position to time a big hit as the ball arrived, which is legal depending on the hit and as long as he times it right. I’m pretty sure the defenseless receiver rule is you can’t hit a defenseless player in the head or with your helmet, but you can still lay big hits legally as they are catching the ball if you avoid those things. For me that doesn’t mean it’s a poorly thrown ball or whatever, but it’s ok to look at it and say that it looks like something could be improved because in a game Chark might get lit up there. The route could have been slightly off. The throw could have been slightly off. It could have all been perfect and everybody was doing their jobs. I’m just glad Bryce walked into training camp solo today so we didn’t have to deal with people analyzing how small he looked beside some other player.

I agree with you on this. I’m sure the coaches and everybody on the field, including Bryce, know. It may not be that Bryce didn’t see the db, maybe he just thought he couldn’t get there. He would have arrived just as the ball did so it could just be misjudging that split second difference. It takes time for rookies to fully adjust to the physical and speed difference of the NFL vs college.

Lol why is he so snarky?

Is this a where’s Waldo type challenge?

I haven’t been looking at power rankings. I was mainly referring to the media coverage surrounding the trade and the draft since that is the bulk of the media coverage I have consumed on the Bears. Somebody said Bears fans were talking about playoffs, my response was that their fans have been getting hyped by the media since they traded the pick. Not talking about power rankings. Talking about how great they’ve been getting told DJ Moore is, how badly they fleeced us, how great their draft was, etc.

Seriously, the least we could do is cup his balls and check his prostate then see where things go from there.

Yes, hoping we’re done with the gaffs and constant over correcting. I feel like we’ve been see-sawing since the end of Foxes tenure. First we brought in Meeks and wasted 2 years drafting tweeners and undersized guys who couldn’t physically compete in the NFL. Then we brought in Ron who brought a Coryell coordinator to bring us out of Foxball offense, but couldn’t tell you what a screen or a slant was. Then we move on from overly loyal Hurney who handed out too many albatross contracts, to Gettleman who was the opposite end of the spectrum with our vet players and chased guys like Gross and Smith out the door with no real backup plan. Gettleman arranges his draft board by height and weight and we swing back on the other side of the tweeners to guys who are just big but we ignore major red flags. Everybody hates Gettleman so much that we see-saw back to overly loyal Hurney. We fire stuck in his ways old school players coach Rivera and swing the pendulum to young fast talking college recruiter Matt Rhule and let him put a staff together of college coaches. Hurney was notorious for missing on mid-round prospects, so we bring in a GM who was part of some of the best mid-late round drafting over the past decade. And now we’re here, we’ve swung back to old head stable NFL coach. He’s hired a really good mix of younger and older guys, but I think the real test will be to see what happens if we lose Ejiro Evero and/or Thomas Brown to other coaching gigs after a year or 2.

He had a few of those. Sione Fua. Nate Chandler. Not Byron Bell of course, we all know he got his opportunities based on him being left handed and able to dance.
-
I’m shocked how many fat lazy players we had in that era. You’d think we had a GM who was just obsessed with size and ignored everything else. At least Trai and Short were motivated enough to get to their first big payday before giving up unlike some others. Or maybe that’s a bad thing. I’m not sure.
-
Definitely. It was funny watching in real time how much better DJ Moore got in the media’s eyes the second he was traded to the Bears. You’d think we gave up Jerry Rice.
-
Why doesn’t Daniel Jones give him some of that money? How is it the GMs fault for giving the deal they had to give in negotiations? GM probably wanted to give Jones less than he got, and Jones probably wanted more than he got, and they met somewhere in the middle. It’s not like Jones came in and said “I want x” and GM said “That’s not enough, double it!” It’s up to the QBs to take less money if they want that money more evenly distributed throughout the team. There’s a salary cap and salary floor, they know the deal.

The media has been hyping them up since they traded the pick. I don’t get it either. Fields has yet to prove he can even be an above average passer in the NFL. They were the actual worst team in football last year and they drafted a RT in the top 10, added DJ Moore and D’onte Foreman, and some linebackers. I don’t see how that gets them into the playoffs unless Justin Fields all of a sudden becomes Peyton Manning, or the rest of their division is a dumpster fire. I think they could be picking t5 next year…with their own pick.
-
Might as well own speaking for them, that’s how we got here to begin with. How many Native Americans did you see on ESPN banging the drum for the name change? And oh lawd “The Natives” would have been lambasted lol.
-
Will there be photos and on-site observations this year or are those gone forever? Was hoping they might come back with the team getting back on the right track.

Jordan Addison caught speeding 140 in a 55. That’s some dangerous poo.

20 years later you decide to make your stand and you can’t even spell the guys name right lol.

Seems like most threads been ending like this recently.

Wtf are you even talking about. I’ve been around here a long time and don’t recall seeing a giant picture of a sex toy with a URL to a porn site until now. But it’s ok to put that on a football forum that is not age restricted and in which children would have no expectation to open a thread and see it because other stuff happens other places and cultures and marvel movies and whatever else wtf are you even talking about. Saying because kids can potentially see it elsewhere does not mean it belongs here what kind of nonsense is that. I don’t care to talk to you about it feel free to put it on the tinderbox if you want, that’s where people expect to see that kind of crap. You’ve said all you need in defending the idea that you don’t care whether somebody else’s kid would unknowingly stumble across what you posted. Yeah yeah fertility sexuality other cultures bla bla bla. It’s a mod issue at this point and it’s messed up that it hasn’t been removed.
-
Fortunately there’s filters and parental controls until they figure out how to remove those lol. Also, if they google boobs it’s on them, you know what you’re getting. Some unfortunate kid who opens this thread on a football forum, however, does not. Disappointed in it being allowed to remain so long tbh.

Lines get drawn between words and images all the time. I’m just saying. I can handle it I’m grown, but just a few weeks ago I remember seeing a guy on here saying his 12 year old son lurks the huddle. It’s a football forum with mods and no “18 or older” warning. I think some vulgarity is expected because it’s the internet, but having a pornographic image front and center on page 1 of a thread is crossing a line IMO.

It should be criminalized so that cities who make the right decisions for their taxpayers aren’t held hostage, especially now that there have been studies which show that the business and revenue generated absolutely do not make up for it. It is a gross misuse of taxpayer money, and the taxpayer gets nothing in return. Like the least they could do is drop ticket prices for local residents. Say they get 40% funded by the city, then city residents should get 40% cheaper tickets or something.
