2022 Charlotte FC Preseason
MillionDollarCam replied to MillionDollarCam's topic in Charlotte Football Club
Match Day #2 Unfortunately it’s another closed friendly, this time against Nashville SC. I assume our social media team will keep us informed. This will be the last friendly before we head to Charleston for the Carolina Challenge Cup. -
Changes Coming to Charlotte FC's Front Office
MillionDollarCam replied to travisura's topic in Charlotte Football Club
Good deal, he’s doing great work with Charlotte FC. I also like that he’s down to earth and has a social media presence. -
Looks great, love the locker room.

Changes Coming to Charlotte FC's Front Office
MillionDollarCam replied to travisura's topic in Charlotte Football Club
We’ll he still be involved with Charlotte FC or just Tepper’s stuff? -
Let’s be honest, at the end of the day these evaluators are wrong just as much as fans. In recent memory, a lot of evaluators were super low on Herbert where as Marty Hurney was super high on him… just goes to show that no one really knows anything. At the end of the day it’s a crapshoot but you stand to do better if you draft players with a supreme work ethic (i.e. Cam Newton).

Borrego and Bouknight get into it
MillionDollarCam replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Charlotte Hornets
Borrego definitely said something that crossed the line because LaMelo grabbed Bouknight before he even got up. It’s like LaMelo knew what was about to happen. -
Not necessarily, dual threat QB’s have their offenses tailored to them for the most part.
-
Grier didn’t have a good senior bowl week… in fact, he was on of if not the worst QB in senior bowl practices. Both Willis and Howell actually were noted to have good senior bowl practices.
-
Might be more of a reason to take an OL early. The depth might not be there.
-
We tend to have good seasons when we have fights in practice Smith and Lucas and Newton and Norman both resulted in playoff appearances… sign me up.
-
They get an entire offseason… not three days of practice. Scouts say all the time that the practice is more important because they can judge a players intangibles and ability in a one on one setting. None of these guys are going to come in and save a franchise right away but that doesn’t mean Willis, Howell, Pickett, etc. aren’t capable of becoming an NFL QB based off of this game.
-
Cam did the best he could with the cards that he was dealt. I don’t necessarily know if any QB can save this franchise if the offense as a whole isn’t revamped and the offensive line isn’t addressed.
-
It’s pretty stupid to judge any of these guys off of a few snaps when… A) It’s a new system and playbook for each one. B) The OL’s have been horrible. and C) These guys have never played together. It’s been said many times before but the practices leading up to the senior bowl are more important than the actual game. At the end of the day each of these guys have pros and cons, some just have a higher ceiling and that’s what scouts are looking for nowadays. To sit here and critique every single thing that they do like they are a finished project is a waste of your time and it’s pretty stupid as well.

Tough to say but I think we could sneak into the playoffs. I don’t think Cincinnati, Toronto, or Miami did enough to improve their teams and the jury is still out on Chicago, it depends on if they land Shaqiri. I think D.C. United, Red Bulls, and Orlando take a step back, I haven’t been impressed with their off seasons and I think Montreal and Columbus take a step forward. Then I think there will be some rearranging of the top four between New England, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and NYCFC. Additionally, Nashville moves to the western conference with Charlotte coming in. My preseason standings would look something like this: 1. New England 2. Atlanta United 3. Philadelphia 4. Columbus 5. New York City 6. Charlotte 7. Montreal 8. Orlando 9. NY Red Bulls 10. D.C. United 11. Chicago 12. Inter Miami 13. Toronto 14. Cincinnati The top 7 make the playoffs.

The more I hear about Malik the more I like him… he has a little bit of Cam’s personality. It’s not as loud or noticeable but the confidence is there. Apparently he walked into his media session today and said “good morning”… no one responded… Malik said, “no one says good morning anymore”… the guy is already creating a personality with the media. It was also reported that he was seen dancing after he made good throws… I wouldn’t mind having a QB that boogies again. He also doesn’t lack confidence. Hugh Freeze stated that there was a game where Liberty was down by 10 and Malik was on the side line telling jokes. Freeze walked up to Malik all upset and Malik told him to relax that he’s (Malik) got this. His skill set with his personality along with his confidence makes him very intriguing at six.

Another article here on Malik…

Overall, I like what I’m hearing in regards to Willis and Howell (my top 2 guys), they seem to be separating themselves. Strong seems to be making his way up the board a tad and might be able to compete with Pickett. Zappe is a meh prospect but he might turn out to be a solid backup. Ridder’s stock is tanking. I have: 1A) Willis 1B) Howell —————— 3A) Pickett 3B) Strong —————— 5) Zappe —————— 6) Ridder Corral fits in somewhere between Howell and Pickett/Strong.

Not even close, I’ve seen every single game he’s played at the collegiate level and many of them live. He has one of the best deep balls in all of college football and can make every NFL throw… his velocity and arm strength is insane. You factor that in with his ground game and his just flat out ridiculous Houdini like plays and it’s easy to see why scouts are high on him. A lot of his mistakes were due to pressing because of the talent level around him. He had maybe other NFL caliber player to work with on offense (WR-Demario Douglas) and his offensive line was horrid. His mechanics needs work but I don’t put much stalk into that talk. Those issues can be ironed out. Overall a lot of the concerns with Malik are the same concerns that people had with Cam. The Josh Allen comparison (not stylistically) is spot on, he’s perceived a certain way by people but in reality he has the tools to be a really good QB. At times he’s inconsistent but he certainly has the ability to be consistent and put the team on his back. He willed Liberty to wins against teams like Virginia Tech and Coastal Carolina. Bottom line is the guy is a flat out winner. Until this year no one even knew who Liberty was, Willis put them on the map.

Will stole the show today. He was my number one and continues to be my number one. He’s showing what he can do with actual talent.

Going to edit my roster here… this is what I have so far and I’m also going to add in Obertan who is on trial because I think he gets a contract. GK - Kristijan Kahlina (XI), Pablo Sisniega (SUB), Adrian Zendejas (SUB), George Marks (SUB) LB - Joseph Mora (XI), Christian Fuchs (SUB), Adam Armour (SUB) LCB - Christian Makoun (XI), Jan Sobocinski (SUB) RCB - Anton Walkes (XI), Guzman Corujo (SUB) RB - Harrison Afful (XI), Jaylen Lindsey (SUB) CDM - Jordy Alcivar (XI), Chris Hegardt (SUB) CM - Sergio Ruiz (XI), Alan Franco (SUB), Brandt Bronico (SUB) CAM - Christian Ortiz (XI), Ben Bender (SUB) LW - Darwin Machis (XI), Gabriel Obertan (SUB) CF - Karol Swiderski (XI), Vinicius Mello (SUB), Kyle Holcomb (SUB) RW - Yordy Reyna (XI), McKinzie Gaines (SUB) This would put us at 27 players and could potentially be our roster for the first match. If we add one more piece before the first game I suspect it would be a depth center forward with Mello recovering from injury or a depth CAM.
