No one with brain cells is even advocating for Corral to be the backup… The point is, the QB1 competition should have been long over (along with the OL competition). Dragging it out this long makes the team look inept and is not helping the players in the slightest. The first game should have gone very similar to the way the Titans handled their reps. Corral gets a lot of reps early and then the backup (Darnold or Walker) comes in during the third or fourth quarter. The next game, QB1 comes in and plays the entire first half with the first team OL, the backup (wether it be Darnold or Walker) then comes in and plays the third and Corral comes in and plays the fourth. The final game, the backup (Darnold or Walker) plays the first half and Corral plays the second half… This isn’t some sort of rocket science and it’s also not some sort of plot to make Corral QB1. It’s about maximizing reps for everyone in a short period of time. Instead, we are going into game two with our thumb up our asses and no idea who the starting QB, backup QB, or the starting OL is.. meanwhile, your HC is out here spewing stupid poo like, you only get better with reps but you have to produce with the reps you are given (which is a contradictory statement and impossible if you are looking at a rookie QB who is starting from ground zero).

Seen many a people calling Robbie trash for ‘dropping’ this… Two things can be true here, the pass by Mayfield can be deemed a great pass, and the pass defense can be deemed solid as well. The two aren’t mutually exclusive, and sometimes someone else just makes a better play than your good play.
-
Your HC just said that players only get better with more reps… pick a side my guy.

I think it goes beyond that. I think most would like to see some semblance of a plan from top to bottom. The only team that I can think of that is in a similar situation to us and handling the situation similar is the Steelers. However, the Steelers have a proven winner as their HC and thus get the benefit of the doubt when they resort to unconventional methods. And I’ll go a step further and say that it’s not just about Corral, it’s about the way the QB1 competition is being handled as well as this random OL competition.

I wish our dick hung so low for us to trip on it… unfortunately we still have little dick energy. I hope Mayfield can change that.

A dumpster fire that who created? Obviously the CMC injury was no one’s fault… but this organization: Tepper, Fitterer, and Rhule made the conscientious decision to go out and acquire Sam Darnold and then pick up his fifth year option before seeing him play a game. That’s called self inflicted damage.

This is textbook straight out of college, for those that follow college football, teams will start naming their starting QB’s this week, about a week and a half to two weeks before the first game. In the NFL, you rarely see that. I’d argue that most competitions are over by the end of preseason week one. This is still a college coach doing college coach stuff.
-
Incorrect, it’s pointless to coaching staffs who have their poo together and their depth chart and competitions figured out. For Matt Rhule, he could probably use five preseason games the way he’s dragging these competitions on. That’s fine not to be triggered, but your team hasn’t been to the playoffs in four years, how long can you sit in the house that’s on fire and say everything is fine? Rhule was supposedly known for turning programs around, improving them each year, where exactly did you see the improvement from when we went 5-11 in 2020 to 5-12 in 2021?

QB & OL Musical Chairs--doesn't help ANYONE
MillionDollarCam replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’d imagine it’s ridiculously frustrating for the OL having to look next to them every snap to see who they are playing beside. -
Bud you are completely missing the point… the fourth preseason game allowed coaches three games to evaluate starters. We are now down to three preseason games which gives coaches two games to evaluate starters… We are heading into that second game… still evaluating starters with no true plan… it’s still a hodgepodge of mixing and matching.
-
After seeing the way he played against Jacksonville, I’m kind of disappointed we don’t get play him.
-
There’s no longer four preseason games… there’s three… so that’s two to get things right for the starters as the depth players will see most if not all the snaps in game three. For the Panthers, that means there’s potentially only one game left for the starters to build any sort of chemistry or continuity… what are you going to say if Rhule does the same rotation next week? And by all accounts he will, after all, Mayfield said that it just happened to be his turn to start… that’s a strong indicator that these rotations aren’t over yet. You keep acting like we have a world of time left… we don’t.
-
Darnold didn’t have the same guys. Gantt kept tweeting the OL’s out. Baker played with: Christensen - Jordan - Elflein - Corbett - Moton Darnold played with: Ekwonu - Christensen - Bozeman - Jordan - Erving Walker played with: Erving - Horton - Tecklenburg - Mays - Pleasants & Ekwonu - Christensen - Bozeman - Jordan - Erving I believe Deonte Brown rotated in with Walker and Corral, Wyatt Miller was strictly with Corral, and Dennis Daley was not available to play. I think Panthers fans have every right to be concerned about the offensive line because if Rhule sticks with this rotation heading into the New England game then that gives what everyone perceives to be the first unit, Ekwonu - Christensen - Bozeman - Corbett - Moton, just one game to build chemistry among themselves and with the starting QB… and that’s assuming that the starters play in week three of the preseason. We don’t have four weeks of preseason anymore, coaches can’t afford to full around with competitions anymore. They truly need to know what the depth chart is going to look like heading into week two of the preseason so that they can use that game as a dress rehearsal and then rest the starters for the third game.
-
Yep, think it sometimes takes those types of messy situations for coaches to change.

Christensen should have cemented his status as a starter somewhere on the line. According to PFF, he played 28 snaps and did not give up a pressure.

Official Panthers at Commies GameDay Thread

Lol, Sweat don’t want that smoke. Ickey didn’t even move when Sweat tried to shove him. -
Just hearing the way Mayfield talks about McAdoo, I can say without a shadow of a doubt, I’d rather have him as HC right now. I pray this thing doesn’t go sideways, but if it does, hopefully he gets a good look.
-
All time great one lol. Sounds like something you’d hear on Ted Lasso.
-
Think Tepper is probably too worried about his soccer team that got their poo kicked in last night.
-
Yeah that’s bad… and 100 percent a contradictory statement. You only get better with more reps but if we only give you three reps, you have to produce… but a reminder, you only get better with more reps…

Wait til the group finds out that the Dolphins 7th round rookie, Skyler Thompson, played the entire game last night against the Bucs. Meanwhile, Corral is out there playing with the cast of The Replacements in mop up duty.

What do want to see more of in preseason week 2?
MillionDollarCam replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
I still don’t know why everyone thought hiring a college coach who lost to Liberty, UTSA, and Duke in a span of three weeks was going to be the savior of this football team. -
It was downright pathetic. Even if I was a Commie’s fan I’d be appalled. Only announcer I’ve ever heard that had that level of homerism is Jack Edwards up in Boston. You would have thought Brian Robinson was the second coming of Jim Brown the way the announcer was fellating over him.

My only thinking is that maybe Rhule knows the second team OL is so bad that he can’t trot a QB out behind that group because it won’t allow the offense to operate, so he has to mix and match. On the other hand, if he does knows that group is so bad… why is he continuing to mix and match in practices when guys aren’t hit. It’s taking away reps from a valuable group that needs to build an identity together. So… honestly, I don’t get it. -
And another really nice player here by multiple guys. Play starts with Roy getting pushed back a bit but Matt Ioannidis hits his man with a nice swim move and closes up any gaps inside. Gibson hesitates for a second and wants to bounce it outside but Barno sets the edge really nicely. This allows Chinn to come from the other side to make the initial tackle after beating his man with ease. Littleton then comes in at the last second and punches the ball out. After setting the edge, Barno doesn’t quit on the play, he stayed engaged and recovered the fumble. Great play all around by nearly everyone.
