He has the tools. He just may not be able to put it all together. To me he is the biggest boom or bust prospect in the draft.
-
And it can be assumed that the Panthers haven't met with Watson a second time because they have already been told they are out of the race.
-
If we are picking based on pure upside? The kid from Cincinnati should be the first off of the board.
-
Willis will likely be a good backup QB for a long time. But I don't see more than a Tyrod Taylor type of career for him.
-
He gets destroyed in coverage routinely. Athletic or not, he has only shown value against the run.

Panthers close to deal with G Austin Corbett

I don't think you watched the same games as the rest of us. Elflein was constantly bullied at guard. He actually looked serviceable at center. -
So was Burns...
-
He's a two down backer. They are a dime a dozen.
-
Armstead - Christensen - Elflein - Corbett - Moton I would be in support of that line up. Helluva lot better than last year.

Panthers sign S Xavier Woods (3 years, 15.75m)

Really liked him coming out of college. Underrated and tough. He is fit as a free safety. -
I agree, but the Texans may also feel the same way and demand Chinn and Horn to get the deal done. That would be pretty devastating in terms of building a defense going forward.
-
No, I think the concern is that we are losing a ton of young talent that was only going to get better. There would be no foundational defensive pieces to speak of at that point, which says a lot considering the draft investment.
-
This would be in addition to losing Gilmore, Jackson, and Reddick. Make no mistake, we are losing half of our starting defense from last season.

If true about Watson being able to pick the next head coach, it makes sense why Rhule wasnt at the press conference for the combine. That would mean Tepper is pushing all of his chips to the center of the table and betting on Watson. He knew that picking the head coach was a major sticking point for his rift with the Texans, so enticing him with this may be the one thing Tepper knew he could give that another team wouldn't. He has brought in veteran, experienced position coaches to help the incoming head coach. Which I am guessing would be Bieniemy. New coach, new QB, and 2nd year GM. As close to a fresh start as possible. But it would be an unusual thing to see a coach fired so late in the off-season. Between that and the Watson trade, the Panthers would be the talk of the NFL.

What is this referring to? There is absolutely zero context.

Could we really pick something other than QB or o-line at 6?
XClown1986 replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
We SHOULD be completely open to several positions to draft. When you draft in the top 10, you have to get that pick right. So it is significantly more important to get an impact player, than to get a player at a specific position (within reason). Both Hamilton and Thibodeaux give me pause. But other teams may be willing to jump up for them, particularly to get in front of the Giants. So, if the trade is fair, and we can pick up extra value, We should look to move down. Especially if the top tackles are gone. No QB in this draft is worth a top 15 pick, much less a top 6 pick. -
Mitchell Trubisky is the best play
XClown1986 replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is the 2nd best play. The best play would be going after Gardner Minshew. -
Kayvon Thibodeaux??? How you feeling if he was the pick?
XClown1986 replied to Basbear's topic in 2015 NFL Draft
Finesse pass rushers with a lean build don't have a great track record in the NFL. See Barkevious Mingo, Dion Jordan, Charles Harris, Taco Charlton, Vic Beasley (outside of rookie year), Shane Ray, and Aaron Maybin. Or even...ugh... Everette Brown. So... No thanks. The fact that he was also seen as the potential number 1 pick and is now seen as a candidate to perhaps drop out of the top 5-10, gives me pause as well. It's never a good sign when the more someone looks at you, the less they like you. -
If we draft a QB, I want Carson Strong
XClown1986 replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Carson Strong = Mike Glennon -
I'll be honest. He reminds me of Roman Harper. That's all I could see when watching him play. He has a very stiff upper body, which worries me if he is playing deep.

Draft day scenario - Could trading Burns be an option?
XClown1986 replied to SmokinwithWilly's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed. Robby Anderson should not be a Panther next year. We can find someone to give us a 3rd for him. -

Overvalue? In a passing league, you can't overvalue the worth of a pass rusher with his ability. The issue is that the coaching staff wants him to be a down lineman every down when he should be used more like Reddick (moved around, standing up, hand down, drop into coverage, etc.) With our team, we should have been playing more 3 fronts than we were. We could have then easily adjusted the front based on offensive formation. Fox kicks inside, Burns or Reddick puts their hand down. Gross-Matos --- Brown --- Fox Reddick --- Thompson --- Carter --- Burns -
There isn't a quarterback in the draft that is remotely in the same class as Burrow. Not saying that one or two of these guys can't get there in a couple of years, but right now? Hell no. It's a crap shoot. Corral has the drive/mentality Ridder has the tools/build Willis has the arm strength Howell has the consistency Pickett has the playmaking ability But none of these guys has it all wrapped up in one package. Whoever drafts one of these guys better have a damn good OC, QB coach, and a veteran QB to learn from.
