Stephon Gilmore is about to be released by the Patriots!
Mr. Scot replied to jasonluckydog's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not so sure that happens here either... -
Yeah, saw that. I think that also factors into Ellis' speculation as well.

We discussed something like this a while back, but I'm revisiting it with a "knowing what we know now" look. Regarding the current state of the O-Line, would you rather... - Try Taylor Moton on the left and Brady Christensen or Trent Scott on the right - Keep Moton on the right and try Brady Christensen on the left - Keep Moton on the right, put Christensen inside and try to find our franchise left tackle in the offseason Which of those sounds best to you? FYI: For what it's worth, our buddy Ellis has stated this: To be clear, this is not based on any kind of inside info, just an observation. State your case. If it were up to you, what direction are you going?

Meanwhile, over at that other expansion team...

Pretty good article here by Athletic college football writer Andy Staples analyzing / summarizing the situation. No Trust, No Respect, No Wins Excerpt: Khan had an opportunity to pull the ripcord Tuesday on a situation that wasn’t working well before this incident but now has no plausible path forward. Perhaps Khan’s attorneys advised him that firing Meyer for cause could get messy and potentially more expensive if Meyer took legal action. Instead, Khan chose to keep Meyer for now, a decision which necessitated a statement. That statement makes no sense, but how could it? Even the most skilled public relations wizard couldn’t provide a logical explanation for this decision. The only thing the Jaguars can say is, “Oh well. We’re keeping him.” In college football, where Meyer won three national titles and is regarded as one of the best coaches in history, they pretend the sport is a morality play until a coach wins so much that he can commit amoral acts with impunity or a morally sound coach loses so much that he gets canned. The NFL isn’t like that. Unlike college football, which also is a multibillion-dollar business, NFL teams admit they’re part of a multibillion-dollar business. So let’s strip moral questions from this situation and look at it from a cold business perspective. Meyer, whose team was 0-4 following a Thursday night loss at Cincinnati, does not seem to be adjusting well to the NFL, where he can’t follow one Bosa brother with another and then sign Chase Young to keep one position room stocked. -

I am, though it's fair to say that coaches don't go down the toilet without taking their team with them. -
The Panthers Progress (from this era to the next)
Mr. Scot replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
An update, posted in this thread since the Panthers dropping out of the Watson stakes was discussed herein. Some folks are gonna love this Keep in mind LaCanfora is very hit or miss when it comes to this sort of thing. In fact I think it might have actually been him who put out the bogus "Tepper will pay any price" story but I'm not dead certain. -

Regarding Collins...

There was talk this might happen a while back but I thought it had passed. Yeah, he's probably worth a look.

Another theory... Possible, I suppose. -

Ive seen speculation both ways. Tom Pelissero believes nothing's going to happen just yet, but guys like Lombardi and Silver seem to think otherwise. Me? Don't know, but I'm probably at a point where nothing would surprise me. -
A critique of Darnold through 4 games
Mr. Scot replied to LinvilleGorge's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'd say suggestions that LG might have gone a little overboard sometimes while talking about Darnold in the offseason are probably fair (guessing he might now see that too). His analysis in this thread though? I've seen plenty of examples of people trying to spin things to say they were right even when they're being proven wrong. I don't see that here. I see LG giving an honest and fair critique. And no, nobody is immune from criticism. In fifty years of watching football, I've yet to see a perfect quarterback. Hell, you can watch guys like Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes and whomever any given week and you'll see mistakes, missed opportunities, etc. If those guys are going to make mistakes, then obviously a guy who's being rebuilt from the ground up is going to make plenty. My offseason take was that I didn't know whether Darnold was going to be good or not, that being because...I didn't. Neither did anybody else if we're being honest but hey... As far as what I see now, I'd put him at the level of a promising rookie. And I'm pretty happy about that. -

Additional info from Lombardi... So yes, while they haven't done so just yet, they are at least exploring whether he can be fired for cause -

For an owner I don't think it's as much about knowing football as it is hiring people who do. Khan hired Urban Meyer and Trent Baalke -
How exactly do you step up when the guys in front of you are getting pushed back into your face?

A Breakdown of the O-Line play from Sunday

Back when Tommy Jone hurt Jake arm...

Not just this past Sunday either. To be fair, it might just take some time for him to really transition over, but I'm pretty sure the early results aren't what they were hoping for.
-
That was one thing I was hoping would get left behind when we parted ways with Fox and Rivera but it looks like it's still here. The smarter coaches play it like chess players. They try to anticipate adjustments the other team is going to make and act accordingly.

What made it all that much more infuriating was that Darin Gantt wrote a pre-game column practically begging Fox to glue Chris Gamble to Larry Fitzgerald because he was pretty much the only real threat the Cardinals had at the time. That one's never gonna not sting
