You think Albert Breer would, though?
-
Josh Klein agrees...
-
No guarantee that it would, but possibly only in a Gift of the Magi sort of way.
-
Gotcha. To be clear, I wasn't necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with that take. I just wanted to make sure I understood you properly.

In that same article, Breer gives a hint that they might not. The one thing I would caution anyone from doing here, though, is assuming that the top five quarterbacks are all seen as worthy of a top-10 pick by every team. It doesn’t work that way. So if the one that slips to five, in this scenario, is one the Panthers really love, then I absolutely could see new GM Scott Fitterer’s getting aggressive to try to outflank teams like Denver and New England to land Carolina’s guy. But the possibility also exists that the Panthers aren’t wild about the one that will shake free from the top four picks. Breer doesn't really give any specifics, but if you pair that with Joe Person's speculation that the Panthers aren't wild about any of the quarterbacks other than the top two, you start to wonder.

Insert complaint about winning the Washington game here.

Albert Breer's latest mailbag has some info relevant to this question. First off, Breer says any team wanting Garoppolo is going to need to offer the 49ers a first round pick (not up for that). Regarding the Panthers, Breer seems to lend some credence to the notion that the Panthers don't necessarily "love" all of the quarterbacks in the "top four". Quoting: The one thing I would caution anyone from doing here, though, is assuming that the top five quarterbacks are all seen as worthy of a top-10 pick by every team. It doesn’t work that way. He believes we would trade up to five if someone we did love fell out, but also points out that the Bengals are in position to demand a high price in return. Failing that, Breer definitely believes that trading for Sam Darnold is possible, and even seems to think it might be a good idea.

Breer still thinks they take a quarterback, or trade the pick to someone else who does (not likely to be us).
-
From Albert Breer's latest mailbag... From Shedrick Carter (@shedrickcarter2): Draft looks set with 3 quarterbacks going 1-2-3. So the draft pretty much starts at 4. Do you see Atlanta going QB or best player available (Pitts)? Shedrick, it seems likely to me that the Falcons will either take a quarterback or move the pick to a team that will.
-
They ain't both getting that from us.
-
Understood. Fitterer has mentioned being a proponent of the "get a quarterback every year" philosophy, though of course that doesn't always mean drafting one.
-
I don't want Atlanta doing smart things.
-
Klein expands on his prior tweet... Anyone else have Slater or Surtain over Sewell right now?
-
Just to make sure I'm understanding you here, you would take Sewell over Fields and Lance?
-
Hard to imagine that unless we believed there was no way we could keep Moton.
-
Regarding Pitts, but could apply here too...
-
That's what everybody expected, but there's lots of talk now it could go another way. (no way I'd bypass Sewell if I were them, but I'm not them)
-
Just using Denver as an example. Heck, people have even suggested the Patriots might trade up. That sounds crazy, but it's a crazy offseason.
-
(not sure what happened to your font) You don't think anybody (like Denver perhaps) trades ahead of us for a quarterback?
-
A pretty good number (and probably the majority) of the mocks coming out now have the top four quarterbacks gone by pick five or six at the latest.
-
I don't really want any of the later round QBs.
-
Just saw this from Joe Person... There's also been word that Joe Burrow is lobbying the team to take a receiver like Ja'Marr Chase. (someone snapped you like a twig last year dude, but you be you) Most mocks previously had Penei Sewell going to the Bengals, but some draftniks are changing their mind now. I've even seen one that had him going to the Broncos at pick nine. So my question would be this: How realistic a chance do you think the Panthers have of getting Sewell at pick eight? For that matter, if he fell to pick six or seven, would you consider trading up?

And of course, Matt Rhule recruited him...
