Basically because he played for the Panthers and was good. I'd honestly say anybody thinking they can just replace Fitterer with Morgan is probably dreaming. Morgan and Fitterer aren't just close friends, their families are friends too. They've actually vacationed together, so you're not just talking about Morgan agreeing to the job. His wife and kids would have to sign off as well. Add to that that Morgan considers Fitterer his mentor and the reason he is where he is now. Doesn't stop there though. You're also asking Morgan to work for the boss who not only fired his good friend, but did so unfairly. Does he then just say "Oh he wouldn't do that to me"? I wouldn't bet on that, especially given that more than has been in a position to see all the dysfunction that's gone on behind the scenes. Part of the problem why folks are a little unrealistic about this is that they see it as Dan Morgan working for the Panthers. It's not it's Dan Morgan working for David Tepper. And once David Tepper becomes the guy who fired his good friend, and did so unfairly, it doesn't become such an appealing job. Especially given that both Morgan and Fitterer could probably find jobs elsewhere without too much trouble. I get the fan appeal of wanting the star player to come back and be a coach/ executive / whatever, but these are real people, not Madden characters.

That's a big concern for me. Tepper is already in the conversation for worst owner in the league when it comes to both results (horrible win-loss record) and intelligence (the sheer stupidity of what he gave Rhule) About the only positive he might still have to offer would be making the Panthers a great place to work, but it sounds like that might already be out the window too. I really don't want to see us become the kind of long-term laughingstock we've seen some other teams be, but I fear we're headed in that direction if things don't change.

Twenty plus years of scouting experience doesn't qualify someone to be a GM? Dan Morgan's only got half of that, and he signed on to the same situation as Fitterer. In order for your argument to stay consistent, you would have to also judge that Dan Morgan isn't qualified for a GM job either. Are you willing to make that statement?

Actually, my argument says that it's pretty dumb to fire him when he didn't have full power, especially given the perception that would create for an owner who's already got a negative reputation. Outside of what Person confirmed on the quarterback side, I haven't made any statement about how much blame goes where.

Hiring an outside consultant isn't going to change the perception around the league that Tepper is a sh-tty boss. Honestly, neither are press conferences like he gave yesterday but hey...

Have you noticed that a pretty heavy portion of your argument is based on the idea that Scott Fitterer must be blamed for anything his bosses do wrong? Are you also going to try and tie him to the contract Tepper gave Rhule?

Scott Fitterer and Matt Rhule never met until the day of his interview. Calling him a "Rhule guy" is kind of disingenuous. Also, Joe Person confirmed that Rhule was in charge of the quarterback decisions so you can't lay that on Fitterer either. As far as roster improvement, I don't have to give you my argument. David Tepper said yesterday that the roster has gotten significantly better over the last few years and he considers it a strength of the team. I don't really see Fitterer being fired as it is, but it would be a really dumbsh-t move if he was.

Disagree, but even using that logic, none of what you're saying changes the impression you leave out there for other candidates. Tepper was willing to be patient with a mid-tier college coach who was obviously in way over his head. He looks pretty stupid for giving Rhule that contract and that level of control already. If he then turns around and gives a guy with over 20 years of actual solid NFL experience less time than he gave that college coach to do a job where he didn't even have final say, he looks like an absolute moron. We already know from other reports that Tepper is a guy people don't want to work for. The last thing we need is for him to make that perception even worse.

What a lot of head coaching candidates don't like is having decisions made for them. Again, I'd let him make that choice.

Doubt it. Phil Snow would still be running the defense and Joe Brady or Ben McAdoo running the offense. Hell, it's not like we went above Rhule's five game ceiling even with Bridgewater.
