Quick reminder... Waiver claims are the first option, but anybody not claimed on waivers becomes a free agent and you get the benefit being able to sign them to a new contract rather than being stuck with their previous one. Basically, don't assume we're set after today. The roster is still fluid and will remain so right up till opening day. -
Grier apparently the only quarterback claimed anywhere...
-
We were trying to sign into the PS but the Cowboys got him first. Makes me wonder if we'll sign another quarterback to the PS, or maybe sign a backup and put Walker on the PS (if he's eligible).

Getzenberg confirmed the Panthers wanted to sign Grier to the practice squad but the Cowboys got him.

Makes me wonder if he'll man the LG spot and Elflein will move to center. -
I know some here we're hoping for this.

There's actually already some news trickling in about other teams waivers and practice squad signings. -

Yes, and we take on whatever contract they had when they were cut. That's why you would never put in a claim on a player you don't want to sign. -

You don't put in a claim on a player you don't really want. -
Watching the final preseason game, I got the impression that the plan for this season is to have Darnold release the ball quickly, even if it means cutting down on his reads. Once they feel like he's settled into a better groove, then they'll likely ease up and give him more freedom. It's the kind of thing you'd do for a rookie, and since Rhule has said that's how they're treating him, it makes sense.

I've been seeing that story referenced everywhere but I haven't sat down and read it. Need to make some time to do that soon.

Noon is the deadline for waiver claims to be placed. After 1pm is when the league starts announcing who's been awarded. -
It sucks seeing a favorite player sign with a team you don't like, but it doesn't really make any sense to hold it against them. They're just trying to further their careers. Now when players leave and then trash talk the organization, that's another story.

The Panthers currently have the most cap space in the entire NFL

It wasn't just the pundits. After Benjamin went down with an injury, a pretty significant portion of the fanbase was ready to abandon ship. -
Other than cutting him... Regardless, Rivera used to pull that sh-t of making roster decisions based on trying to get veterans a storybook ending to their careers. It's one reason why we ended up the way we did.

You don't make football moves "out of respect".
