Per our old buddy Brett, after 2003 Marty perpetually believed we were just a player or two away from another championship. I see that as a big reason for his failure, quite possibly the biggest reason.
-
That, plus the fear it could happen again at a time when it mattered.
-
What Marty did on an annual basis.

I don't know if Newton's vaccination status played a primary role or even a major role in his release. With that said, I have a really hard time buying Belichick's assertion that it played no role. (granted, I have trouble believing Belichick in general)

I'd reverse the question: Did we really believe a top O-Line was gonna be built in one offseason? My read this offseason has been that they're signing stopgap vets (minus Moton, of course) while looking to build the line of the future primarily via the draft. Will it work? Don't know, but I can respect the approach. Going all in on a single season when you're realistically in a rebuilding stage would be classic Marty Hurney.

Deshaun Watson trade now as unlikely as ever...
Mr. Scot replied to SizzleBuzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
I get that there are people who still desperately want to subscribe to this idea that David Tepper is some backstage power broker who's prepared to move heaven and earth to get Watson or some other franchise QB. And I'll grant that it's probably more fun to imagine that than the notion that he's just a regular owner who's prepared to simply trust his football people to do their jobs. Unfortunately, all the actual evidence says it's wishful thinking. Mind you, there's plenty of evidence in the opposite direction, not the least of which is Justin Fields' current address. But hey, if you wanna keep picturing some fantasy blockbuster deal or whatever, you can do that. You should likely be prepared for disappointment though. -
Jets X Factor: Five Huge Mismatches Favoring the Jets The first couple probably won't surprise you, but the last three may give you pause. (or a few chuckles) Also recommend reading the author's bio.

I hadn't thought about it but yeah, Hurney genuinely could be one of them.

Another receiver added to the PS (and a big one) -
I mean if you wanted to go tinfoil hat and throw out some wild scenarios, trading for Duane Brown is about the only one I could think of that could conceivably really happen. I'm not expecting anything like that though.
-
Well, speaking of humor...
-
Same. If there's anything, I feel like it'll be for depth, not a starter.

I have no idea if all is well. Ask me again in about ten days or so. -
He's generally being taken as sincere, but not having heard him it's tough to say.

Yeah, he's not exactly the most objective observer in this situation. -
Bonnafon is gone too.. .
