    I actually think it's kind of interesting that they're grading players at more than one position. I wonder if that's been done in Carolina before.

    Honestly I think that happens to a decent number of quarterbacks. It's been argued that's what happened to Darnold. I think of David Carr as an example. I've long believed that he could have been a good NFL quarterback if his first few years hadn't suffered from such sh-tty coaching and team management on the part of the Texans.

    I don't really give a damn if he's the most boring person in the world as long as he wins.

    I said before it wouldn't surprise me if he plays left tackle this year but gets shifted to guard in favor of more highly drafted left tackle next season. And I'm okay with that.

    Very possible. There's a saying that the length of the average NFL career is one year too long.

    Not necessarily about Ron, but potentially about the organization. Granted, our organization wasn't exactly stellar for most of his years here. Given the faith they showed in him though, his opinion might be different.

    I guess part of my reason for optimism is that it really feels like our current leadership actually knows what they're doing. It's been a pretty long time since I've felt that way.

    Meanwhile, over at Texans minicamp... Just remembering when people were saying that John McClain was the shill for the Texans brass And yeah, he's right. That's pretty stupid.

    "So are we trading back again?" One of the stories that I found about Fitterer back during the GM search was that one year when John Schneider had traded back a bunch of times he got a little frustrated, went to Schneider and said "Okay can we stop now?"

    I mean, as an example of a guy who was pedestrian his first few seasons but turned it around, it's valid. Can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think it's meant as a comparison to Brees (or at least it shouldn't be). And personally, I'd be happy if Darnold was just good to great. He doesn't necessarily have to be Hall of Fame worthy for us to be successful.

    Back when I was in high school, a guy I knew who was an assistant coach at an opposing school asked me that question. I named his school. He responded, "You know who our rival is?" I asked who. He said, "Whoever we're playing this week." That always kinda stuck with me.

    That, plus you can tell from the pre draft discussions that they really liked Jaycee Horn.

    I mean, there were flashes here and there, but we were held back mostly by the fact that our original owner valued loyalty to him over the actual ability to do a job well. That's how we ended up with over a decade of Marty Hurney as our GM.

    The old Panthers were pretty bad. The current edition? Remains to be seen but there's lots of reasons to be optimistic.

    I saw a story where Earl Campbell was hit by a truck a couple of years ago. Word was the truck survived but it needed a lot of repair work.
