Disagree on TE unless it's for depth. I think Hurst is fine as a starter.

Love and Rodgers is kind of...different. High picks starting from the get-go is pretty much the norm these days. Ironically enough though, our current head coach is an example of someone who was meant to start while a rookie learned. Reich was supposed to help Kerry Collins ease into the NFL, but the staff panicked during an early bad game and threw Collins into the fire. You might say that didn't work out so well But now Reich's the guy choosing to start Young immediately. So I guess we'll see...

One of the provisions of the current NFL is that veteran contracts become fully guaranteed for the year if a player is on the active roster for the first game. Because of that, it's become fairly normal for some teams to wait until after Week 1 to add free agent veterans they might have interest in. Now lemme say up front that I haven't looked at the available free agents (I'm sure someone will) and I can't say whether the Panthers have any particular interest in anyone at this point, so I'm not making any predictions. But it's something to be aware of...

I'd also add this... Good advice

Mike Kaye's game summary... While there might be few panic attacks within the Carolina fan base this week, the Panthers played like a rebuilding team with a rookie quarterback in his NFL debut. The Falcons, in general, didn’t come off as a significantly more impressive team — they just simply didn’t make as many mistakes. Teams that turn the ball over three times don’t win games in the NFL. It’s really that simple. An 0-3 turnover ratio is a recipe for disaster. Young’s detractors will point to this game as proof that he was a poor pick. They’ll also point to the stat lines for fellow top quarterback picks, CJ Stroud of the Houston Texans and Anthony Richardson of the Indianapolis Colts, and laud their performances over Young, despite all three signal-callers losing their debuts. But the reality is this is just one game. Young has shown the ability to bounce back from bad moments several times in college and this summer. His outlook, while at least temporarily shaded by this performance, is still pretty bright. A lot of the miscues on Sunday were likely the result of a lack of live reps within a young crew. Several teams suffered similar fates in Week 1. While the game looked bad on paper and in the moment, it was ultimately just a letdown, and not worthy of a total lambasting. Grading the Panthers: Week 1

Learning the speed at which things happen in the NFL is a big part of the rookie quarterback adjustment.

I did. He's cool, he's smart, he's poised and he's pretty accurate. Yes, there are growing pains (like him fading as the game went on) but for a rookie starting his first game he looked pretty good. Hell, these days some guys can't even do that by year three.

There are a load of these

Week 1 football has generally been bad for a while now. The camp and practice rules that were agreed to in the last CBA certainly didn't help things. Wasn't always true, though. People who remember back to Week 1 of the 2003 season could testify to that. (not just the Panthers game, either)

"Coming back down to earth"? Yeah, I guess that's one way to describe it

Man, of all people to look to for a reasonable take...

Said the same thing. Hell, even Lady Cowboy Fan was ready to turn it off (she has to work tomorrow) but I was intrigued to watch just how this trainwreck ended

To anybody doubting that today could have been a whole lot worse for us, I offer you this game

My word, this is bad
