I think we have enough talent on the roster to be better than we are now with he right coaching. There are areas that still need work, but that's always true.
-
The Lions didn't disregard their defense. They just picked the wrong person to run it.
-
We're not making the playoffs.
-
We did. We also, after week one of this season, heard that passing is what wins in the NFL. So...
-
This is why I chuckle when people talk like just getting the best players can overcome terrible coaching.
-
Wa s thinking Millen was part of that particular disaster but I'd have to look it up (could be wrong).
-
Dan Snyder gave Ron Rivera full power in the organization and basically allowed him to restructure the front office as he saw fit. That restructure included getting rid of popular front office guy Kyle Smith in favor of former Panthers GM Marty Hurney along with former Lions GM (and Panthers GM candidate) Martin Mayhew. Mayhew is best remembered as the architect of the Lions team that went 0-16.
-
That's one reason why if we did go the young offensive mind route, I'd like to hire an older OC, preferably a former head coach. Ditto on the defensive side.
-
Speaking of our old friend Ron, things...aren't going well Yikes!
-
Not directly related to other games, but... To which one person responded thusly...
-
He wasn't. Dodds has this thing where he insists he won't take a GM job until he feels it's absolutely the right situation. He doesn't want to risk joining a bad organization and winding up fired or disgraced. Avoiding the Matt Rhule controlled Panthers was probably a wise move. That said, those standards might make it pretty difficult for him to actually get a job.
-
In part because he had the connections to hire a world-class staff. Instead he went heavy on less experienced guys and followed that up by drinking the Russell Wilson Kool-Aid. Mind you, he's still only in his first year, has already admitted to some mistakes and worked to correct them. That's pretty rare from an NFL head coach. I'll wait and see how that story plays out. Hell, people had Dan Campbell and Nick Sirianni pegged as busts early on too.
-
We're in a position to look down on anybody? But seriously, no. Plenty of successful head coaches have been plucked from teams that weren't winners. Remember, Bill Belichick was technically a failed Browns coach first. Likewise, several terrible head coaches came from winning programs. Take Matt Nagy or pretty much anybody that's been hired out of Belichick's Patriots tree.

There are rumors that Irsay might be looking to fire Chris Ballard, maybe even Ed Dodds. I'd take either of them on my team's personnel staff any day of the week.
-
Sean McVay was hired off of Jay Gruden's Redskins staff.
-
Uh yeah... Not licking anybody's boots, and definitely not for the privilege of watching the kind of refried monkey sh-t we've been treated to the last few years.

For the interested, here's a list of the various red flags associated with some of the hot names that are out there. Raiders DC Patrick Graham

There's more than just them. Like I said, it's never happened.
-
Well for at least one of them, it'd be a homecoming.
-
First off, Tepper has a soccer team here too, Second, relocations require league approval which is highly unlikely in our case. Either way though, blaming dissatisfied fans for a billionaire being a dump prick is stupid.
-
Someone else has already mentioned it on here, but I really think a lot of people are overrating Flores. It's valid that he didn't deserve to get fired by the Dolphins when he did. It's also valid that he wasn't really all that successful with the Dolphins either. Throw in the talk about toxic environments and the fact that he comes from the Belichick coaching tree, and there are a lot of questions to be asked.

For the record, my top choice is Rich Bisaccia. I'm not a huge fan of chasing the next Sean McVay because as often as not, what you actually wind up with is the next Joe Brady. Now with that said, there's an argument to be made that if you don't keep up with the way league offenses are going right now, your risk being left behind. If you watched the Chiefs-Bills playoff game last season, you'd have to ask yourself whether a defense based team could have withstood that.

I'm not up for settling. After 25+ years as a Panther fan, I've settled enough.
