I didn't have an opinion because I assumed it would just be Rhule's buddy that was the interim OC. I don't hate the hire because at least we have someone with actual NFL experience but I am also not delusional enough to start jumping for joy because it isn't like this dude is some wunderkind of an OC.

I think part of it is the Cincy line but I do recall seeing/hearing some analysis during the year that indicated that the coaching staff realized that Burrow just wasn't going to avoid the pressure and they sort of relaxed trying to scheme him out of it and just let him do his thing. Eventually that will have to change. He has to realize he can't continue to get lit up like this.

One of the biggest keys to Campbell looking better than expected so far is that he has a VERY strong staff with a lot of NFL experience. Rhule did not assemble that.

I think Herbert ends up ahead of Burrow ultimately. Burrow just takes an insane amount of punishment. Way more than Jackson or Herbert.

Yeah, right now Burns does not have an advanced array of pass rush moves that he utilizes. He is kind of a one trick pony, which is definitely a concern.

Yeah, unless you are a first round draft pick(and really more so the top 15), you aren't coming into the NFL with the kind of cash that will make you comfortable for life. You need to invest wisely, budget effectively and not just blow through this money on your rookie deal. It's an amount that if managed properly can set you up for success later in life if football doesn't work out. It isn't going to be until you get a 2nd or 3rd or 4th contract that you can set yourself up to where you don't have to worry about being able to retire comfortably. The overwhelming bulk of NFL players will not attain life changing wealth.

It's literally a free market system in the NFL. "Value" is very often dictated by abilities, hype, positional value, etc. So, when the market is largely saying they don't want McAdoo, they are saying he doesn't have value. If he in fact were a guy that was perceived as being an offensive genius or even above average OC, he would have been employed by now. You want a good example? Norv Turner. Failed at every head coaching stuff but was almost always an extremely successful OC and never struggled to get a job in that capacity. The Rhule/Giants example is just getting off track even further. You tried to use it in the post I was replying to and I just simply responded that regardless of "negotiation" we threw an offer at him VERY quickly after the first interview. I rather doubt how much negotiation based on both the timeline of the meeting to hiring, and also that the other interested party dropped out of the race. I don't really even care about debating this point. It has no bearing on the McAdoo situation at all other than Rhule was a very dumb hire in hindsight and the same dysfunctional organization that hired him also hired McAdoo. TLDR, he wasn't an attractive candidate to anyone in the NFL other than us and largely because not many coaches with better prospects would choose to come here.

I think it's amplified now by the 2019 roster nuking and the inability to attract almost any quality free agents. So, as much as I don't love some of the trades Fitterer has made, I do think there is an element of us having to rely on guys that don't have a choice about destination. It's pretty clear we are being actively avoided by a lot of players. Not unusual for franchises that are mired in the level of dysfunction that ours is. So when you have bad drafts(which 2021 is looking like it has the potential to be a really terrible draft), it hurts so much more. I said after 2019 I thought it would take at least 5 years to recover the talent pool and we haven't made much progress in that regard since then. I'm even more afraid that we keep the Rhule experiment going even longer than 2022 and we just sink further and further into this hole we are digging.

Yeah, I saw that. Not really sure what to think of it, TBH. Ultimately I hope we find some role for him because we are getting to the point where whiffing on draft picks start to become big blows. Especially since we aren't able to attract better quality free agents consistently.

If he can be a solid backup tackle, that 3rd isn't a great pick but also not a bad pick. About average. I can be okay with that result.

Brown's problem is that he lacks a lot of discipline. He is pushing so hard trying to get sacks that he often gets redirected out of plays, especially in run defense. He's extremely inconsistent. Far better pass rusher than most thought but he really is far, far worse at run stuffing than I ever expected. Hence why he really needs to figure it this season. It's going to be tough to think about extending a guy that just cannot play well consistently. Burns should have double digit sacks every season. Not just because they play 17 games but I swear he misses the most sacks that are right at his fingertips of any Panthers player I can recall. If he hit on 60% of those, he'd be well into the double digits in sacks. He just needs to keep working to get a better and more diverse set of pass rush moves and being disciplined on run plays. Both of these guys have the ability to be great/elite, but they just haven't been able to put it together yet.

Yeah, we don't have the players to run the scheme we are trying to run on defense. Need much, much better LB's and more disciplined DL. We generate a lot of pass rush pressure but are atrocious in run defense.

He's a very mediocre player, at best. It shouldn't be to hard to upgrade him but we definitely don't appear to try very hard to do so.

It would be nice to see Brady pan out but I am not hopeful about it.

Even if that is the case, none of those guys is likely capable of beating out our top three. I think maybe it's more about that bottom of the roster churn Fitterer talked about.
