As much as I believe that he will be, I am not prepared to say that yet. Dave Gettleman taught me that lesson.
-
Well......Gettleman had a lot of success with that early but that went down the toilet pretty quickly as his career in Carolina went on. I think that sort of went to his head a little bit.
-
Who knows? He's definitely a guy that played his entire college career as a LT, so he will be learning a new position since he clearly won't be playing there. We are also converting a UDFA TE from last year to a FB, when he was a WR/TE his entire college career. And we also converted Jeremy Chinn to LB after he played S/CB his entire college career. We still do that stuff and there really isn't anything wrong with doing it. You just can't be as fuging inept at it as Marty Hurney was.

What I like most about Fitterer so far is how quickly he remedies his and others mistakes(Little, Perryman, Slye, Bridgewater). That is his most valuable quality I have seen so far and something very foreign for us as a franchise historically. That bodes well for his success here. Now, that said.....this draft will depend on the success of his 3rd round and later guys. With all the trading, he really has to hit on at least one of those guys to make this draft as good as our fans like to believe it was. I think Horn will eventually get there and Marshall may be there sooner rather than later, so I am less worried about them. With the rest of the offseason, it's all about Darnold, Elflein and Erving. If those guys fail, it was a terrible overall effort. If at least one or two succeed, it was at least partially successful. Perryman was a bust already, so a little bit of a slow start for our dumpster dive candidates. I still think Reddick, Fox and Jones will prove to be valuable additions. Bouye will be another interesting one. If he has anything left in the tank, shrewd signing. If he proves to be over the hill, that will be another dumpster dive miss that probably impacts our effectiveness in 2021. So, lots of potential for greatness and lots of potential to show he isn't the savior we had hoped. It's gonna be a wild ride in 2021.

We actually just did that with Brady Christensen.

The food....likely Mediterranean themed(TBD). The beer......ooof.....too many to list. Let's just say a who's who list of BA stouts, barleywines, lambics, etc. Can't wait for tomorrow's beer shits!

2 good reasons not to over-react to tomorrow's game
kungfoodude replied to bigdavis's topic in Carolina Panthers
Last I heard they were sitting a bunch of folks. That may have changed. It really doesn't matter. If we get blasted by their starters or we blast their starters.....it's completely irrelevant. The only thing of value is watching some of the players get their individual reps and battle for spots on the depth chart(or roster). The results are completely meaningless otherwise. -

I am going to be doing a big bottle share at a local brewery, so the whalez are about to be popped. 2018 Handjee, Barrel Aged Adjunct Trail, HOMES Birkin series, all kinds of goodies stacked up. -

As you watch tonight's exhibition match, remember the most important thing.......16 days until you finally get to see real football. Sit back, relax, none of this poo matters at all. -

This is the correct answer. -
You are so delusional it's comical. You literally have zero explanation for why he has consistently been very poor at his job. It's hilarious to see a non-Panthers kicker super fan in here. Well, good luck with whatever next team he is on in 2021. I am assuming someone in the CFL.

Improvements in the secondary and just overall more help on that side of the ball. I think the improvements on the DL will help him, as well. The secondary this year.....eh.....it's probably going to be a modest improvement. Bouye we won't know anything about until we see him, perhaps he is in prime form or perhaps he shows his age. Horn will probably generally be up and down, he is a rookie after all. Chinn may struggle to adjust, as his coverage numbers from 2020 were a little lacking. Jackson....that is anyone's guess. Could be amazing, could be up and down, could be bad. Then the rest of them are largely unknowns. IMO, the secondary will improve but it is unlikely they will be as good as most of our fans think. Mainly because they are all so young. I don't expect to be stellar in 2021, I would expect the to be stellar in 2023, 2024, 2025, etc. One they get some experience under their belts, that is when I think they will hit their stride. I don't expect to see All Pro Horn for a couple of seasons, and that's fine.

1st & 2nd Rd Draft Picks (2017-Present) - Pretty Cool
kungfoodude replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
As I said earlier, I think injury is the only thing I can see that could derail Chinn's career. However, we have seen stellar rookie seasons end in career disappointment before, so as a general rule I try to wait to make that assessment for at least 3 seasons. -

Brian Burns should be able to keep us out of 1998 territory, even if Daley fails. Make no mistake, however, it is genuinely remarkable how bad that 2019 draft is. -
Sure, why don't you explain all your misses your first season? How about all your misses this preseason? How about your misses in a one on one competition this week? How about all your misses at VT? How about you explain why you just can't cut it?

If Daley flames out this season, the 2019 draft will likely go down as the worst in franchise history. -

I think Chinn can only be stopped by injury, TBH. He just seems to be one of those guys destined for greatness. -

Agreed. Landing multiple guys each draft that can contribute in some way during their rookie contracts can be a big aid to long term success. That cheap depth and talent is critical. -
1st & 2nd Rd Draft Picks (2017-Present) - Pretty Cool
kungfoodude replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well.....we aren't exactly brimming with talent, so that may not be saying a lot. We have had our fair share of draft picks that started a lot of games in their rookie seasons and didn't exactly stick around the team or NFL long. Not trying to poo on these guys in any way, just saying we might want to slow our roll on crowning them as successful without ever having played a down of NFL football. -

Yeah. We have had a lot of picks in the upper portion of the rounds, which helps a lot. Our biggest issue is whiffing in rounds 3-7. That has been what kills us traditionally. -

I am not trying to be snarky but how do we chock up 2021 picks to being successes when they have never played a down in the NFL? I kind of feel similar about the 2020 draft picks. It's hard to judge any player that early in their career, good or bad. -
Offensive Philosophy: The Tortoise vs The Hare
kungfoodude replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Possibly so. Peyton had a SHITLOAD of INT's in his first year in the league. I am amazed at how Mahomes is able to do all that crazy poo and get away with it. That will be something interesting to watch over the course of his career. If the talent drops around him, will he start throwing more picks? -
Offensive Philosophy: The Tortoise vs The Hare

That's the traditional issue with gunslingers as a whole. But, you are seeing a newer breed of much more measured gunslingers. A lot of the young gunslingers tend to take a little better care of the ball as a whole. Not everyone is as crazy as Favre, Rivers, etc. Mahomes leans gunslinger but has a ridiculously low INT%.
