  1. The question is, do they know it? It would be interesting to hear the conversations inside the organization these days.
  2. That haul amount will drop the longer they hold out. It will get less after free agency and the draft, because potential suitors will be off the board. Especially if teams he is willing get traded to move forward with their plans. Make no mistake, the league isn't going to grind to a standstill to wait on the resolution of this stand off. And the fact that his value is so high is that the need for QB's is extremely high at the moment. That changes when QB's get drafted or QB needy teams decide to sign free agents instead of wait.
  3. If we made picks to attempt to get Watson in a trade, instead of just building for the future once Houston goes into dumb mode......we will be a dumpster fire in no time. I'd love to have Watson but I wouldn't shy away from taking a QB at #8(if available) if Houston decides 2021 is going to be hardball time.
  4. It's kind of like watching a relationship with one of your buddies and telling him to rid of his GF/spouse because it is plainly obvious where it is all heading. But they double down to try and salvage it, only for more time to pass before the inevitable happens and they split up. That's Houston and Watson right now.
  5. Yep. And I believe you will see an exodus of talent from the franchise the more contentious this gets with Watson. By all accounts, he is well liked there and teammates had suggested he get out. I suspect they will all be jumping ship in short order, as well.
  6. I suspect they will also go after Watson's signing bonus too. Once that happens, their place at the bottom of the NFL will be forever completed. Players will not want to play there and they will struggle to ever resign any homegrown talent. This is going to be fantastic to watch them crumble.
  7. Oh the longer this drags on, the lower the price will get. Largely because teams will take QB positions and then be out of the market. If Houston was smart, they'd be blowing up the phone of every QB needy team in the NFL.
  8. That last year of a bonus(the bonus has already been paid in full at signing) is an extra year added for accounting purposes. New Orleans has been doing that with Drew Brees contract forever. It's a way of lessening the impact of the prorated bonus cap hit every year. The downside is that it carries dead money into a time period where the player is no longer on the team. You have to keep in mind that those prorated bonuses get paid out upon signing of the contract. That is all "book money" and not actual money being spent(because it has already BEEN spent).
  9. This is also true. It doesn't hurt that he is tearing it up down there.
  10. For the Carolina Panthers, it would be awesome to see him sit out 2021 and then the Texans be forced to trade him in 2022 offseason. In 2022 we should be in MUCH better shape to make a deal with them.
  11. If they don't meet his demands, it is the Texans who stand to lose a lot more than Deshaun Watson. Remember, they just gave him a $30 mil signing bonus. If they play hardball, all they will achieve is a spot in the dumpster of the NFL for the remainder of time.
  12. It isn't worthless because they can't peddle him to the highest bidder. It has to be to a team he is willing to be traded to. Remember, he has veto power.
  13. And that value is also fluid, as well. Next year if Brown blows up and Moore only has one year left on his deal(or has signed a new big deal with us) then his trade value may also drop. CMC's value is fairly low because not many teams want a $10+ mil RB on their team, even one in their prime. I don't think jersey sales will play a big factor, although you never know. That kind of stuff is all over the map unless you are talking about a LeBron-type popularity level. Plus we have to consider the year he spent on the sidelines due to multiple injuries have likely severely tanked his overall value. I somewhat suspect this will all end up as an exercise in theory anyway. I don't think we will be able to make a deal and I am doubtful we ever learn what we offered, if anything.
  14. This is the kind of thing that Matt Rhule talked about at the end of the season with playing through injuries. Don't be surprised to see us take a look at this kid.
  15. Tepper has fully admitted that he basically knew next to nothing about football and being an owner in the NFL. He focused initially on the business side of the organization because that he knows very well and has had to learn the football side. In that regard, I think he kept Hurney around purely out of ignorance.
  16. I think the thing that makes Brown less valuable at the moment is that he didn't produce at an elite level in year one(although he had some elite flashes) and also that interior DL have less positional value than elite WR's. If Brown becomes a Aaron Donald, Chris Jones, Fletcher Cox type, he would be as valuable or more valuable than Moore. He's a riskier asset to trade for than Moore, at the moment.
  17. I gotcha.....well.....we probably would want to because our other core pieces are going to be due for deals in 2022 and 2023 and that hurts our ability to front load rather than backload the contracts. Perhaps we could tack some Drew Brees-esque dead money years onto the back end. I am reticent to do that, as we saw how that worked out for the Saints.
  18. The shitpost density in this thread is close to record numbers. We may be looking at breakaway dumb reaction if this doesn't get remedied.
  19. Two owners worth of dumb in that move. At least we have one that is learning from that mistake.
  20. fug that. He left Shaq, CMC AND Teddy's deals on the way out. That was a straight Hurney 1.0 exit.
  21. Yeah but 60% of that locker room was gone. Also, Cam didn't go to a place where he owned the locker room when he left. He went to the place where the locker room is completely controlled by a coach. And, they actually loved Cam. He's just doesn't have "it" anymore.
  22. That is why I have been saying his name from early on. He is an elite pass rusher(premium positional value in the NFL) with three years left on a rookie deal. He is the most valuable asset on our roster, despite what people think. Moore isn't super far behind him. The rest of our assets are worth far less.
  23. Why would we need to restructure his deal? He's insanely cheap.
  24. They have to honor it. We can see if he is willing to renegotiate but it is at his discretion
