Carolina Panthers - Baltimore Ravens Joint Practice 1
Rags replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
History's been changing a lot. "Veterans only" sitting across the league are turning into starters, most times regardless of age. And with the nfl still pushing for 18 we're probably gonna get cut down to 2 games. And with that a lot of teams are willing to take their lumps in early regular season -- we've seen teams recover from 0-1. 0-2 and even 0-3 starts more and more. This is just the way things are trending. It's why you're seeing more and more joint practices. Preasons seems to be more for last call back roster eval than ironing the kinks out. -

just like your reading comprehension. My point in bringing up Cam and Greg was for the sole purpose of saying "preseason didn't make 15 Cam and Greg still woulda fuged up poo." 15 was talent and luck personified for us. My entire argument is Preseason doesn't make a difference. We're still gonna be a sloppy team. We're still gonna make mistakes. We're still gonna look young. Only difference is I can look at the bigger picture and not have a neculare take if we lose week 1 while this message board will be shoulders deep in Fields' ass and calling fort he head of Rhule's entire family. I don't care if we look like poo week 1. It's week 1 of 17. I don't think the risk of injury (which is real. which is why you see less and less starters playing these meaningless games across the league) is worth it at all when we're getting training in practice. And Rhule seems to think the same. wowza, -
it's really funny seeing some people in here not understanding "Good players having bad days" since those same people judge their entire emotional state on the team based on whatever tweet they read last.

yeah i'll blame on us being a young team i promise you playing 2 drives against the ravens wouldn't change that. It didn't change poo in 15. 15 was the Greg and Cam show with the Defense playing lights out. -
you're arguing with yourself here mate

but what if it was the receivers fault and not Sam's?

One of our starters was literally udfa rookie Corey "Philly" Brown. Terrance Marshall played in the preseason game so that's a wash. Mike Tolbert and CAP were the starting backs that game. The only "Vets" on offense that started that was a week 1 starter were Cam and Ted. Cotch did not play. Stew had 2 carries. And to top it all off -- who cares its preseason. Cam was 4-10 that game with an Int. Cam has always been poo in preseason. But hey since we're talking about past history remember 2019 when our starting QB played in the preseason then got hurt on the first possession. Yeah me too. Wonder why Rhule prefers a controlled area for his team to build synergy. -
eh. I still see picks like Devin and Ealy (though that might be because I had higher expectations for both) as worse picks. It was nice at the time to draft a T who at least one time was held in high regard and wasn't from some Div.II college. Sucks but I've been mad about worse picks in the 2nd.

Newsflash - no matter what happens in TC and Preseason it will never match the intensity of actual stakes on the line Regular Season Football. No matter what happens in camp, doesn't matter if Rhule had the starters play every down, we will still have kinks to work out, and we will still be the youngest team in the nfl. 10-15 snaps against the Colts/Ravens second team won't change that. Playing an entire half against their third stringers and bubble players absolutely won't. -

Brody you just said the starters need to play the entire half. in the 2nd preseason game. Nah that's a hoot right there. -

I'm not sure what you guys expected. We're a young rebuilding team. The entire reason we practice against these two well coached, playoff teams is to improve in a lighter pressure situation and make mistakes in said situations, and learn how to play and practice like successful teams And now you guys are mad that we're doing exactly that. O k a y. I'm not sure what 20 or so preseason snaps against backups will prove besides letting you guys find something to get mad about. This forum is just one big bitching circle jerk.- 270 replies

Your point would hold a lot more water if you didn't intentionally twist what he said js. -

y'all are a hoot -
I promise you nothing worth gleening would show up from the starters the first two drives from the starters, with a lot more to lose. but hey why would we want to see any of our backups and bubble players get snaps haha
-
some of these takes are comedy gold anyway who cares big nothing burger teams across the league are doing this more and more. Players were elated to not have pre season last year. When we get game 18 we'll lose another one. The only players who care a fringe/bubble players who I do feel for because it's their only chance to show the other 31 clubs they might have a lil something.

because they're better at talent evaluation than you but tbh not saying much
-
Just an early gut feeling but I wouldn't be surprised to see Dontes snaps go down after week 2. I hope that's not the case. I really want him to pull it together
-
Super low. Throws a lot of bullets too. Hopefully he adds a bit more touch.
-
Exactly. He was the highest paid CB at the time. Don't get me wrong he's great, and I'd love to have him. I get his complaints but that's the nature of the game -- there will always be a new highest paid.

5 bold predictions for the Carolina Panthers’ 2021 season
Rags replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ok -
Pride is at worst solid depth. He had no business being in some of the matchups he was as often as he was last season and he still looked okay as a late round pick. Depth guy/STer with potential to grow isn't a bad thing.

To be fair, the HBs and TEs and usage of Slot WRs, and the schemes used to expose these mismatches, in today's NFL is way different than what Shaq has to cover on a regular basis. Like 8 years ago we'd love Shaq unanimously here.
