  1. Good! We either knock them out and move on or are shown the door early. It's a win/win. You have to be able to beat any team put in front of you to win the Cup. Time for the Canes to put on their big boy pants.
  2. Ok, so I know someone who works for the Canes and I am not trying to be "that guy," but they said Jarvis was never offered. He was off limits as well as Necas and Nishi who were both asked about. They offered a 1st, 2nd, and a high prospect (I think Morrow, but no names were given) and the Canes would take on his salary. I'll just leave it at that, take it for what it's worth. It is very apparent SJ was trying to play NJ and Carolina off of each other, Canes moved on and said no thanks. Really surprised the Sharks retained salary and didn't get more, but it could be they overplayed their hand.
  3. If you don't mind paying for parking, pay ahead. I can't believe it's $30 at the gate now...I remember complaining about $10. Oh, and enjoy the experience with your son!! It's terrific!
  4. Boston, Toronto, and the Rags got much better and dangerous. We are good defensively, but let there be no doubt we have to bring it in the playoffs. No shifts off...... The last two years in the playoffs I have seen guys take shifts "off" in my mind, and it's unacceptable. I don't care if we are down by 2 goals you play as hard as you can when the playoffs get here.
  5. I would say 5v5 we have - Puljujarvi is pretty solid defensively, and I really hope the change of scenery and playing with his fellow Finns brings out the scoring everyone thought he had. I think Ghost will need to focus on his Defense for the playoff run, other than the slump he had in Philly the knock on him has always been his Defense.
  6. Freddy has to be in God mode though. He has flashed that mode in some games, but he isn't playing nearly as well as he did before he got hurt last year.
  7. I agree here, I have no clue why we didn't do this. The only thing I can point to is that Chychrun has been injury prone and I guess Waddles and the Canes Brain Trust probably considered what happened with Gardiner. That's the only hesitation I can see.
  8. I don't see Waddles getting Chych since the asking price seems so high. I would assume the same for Schmaltz. Maybe Ghost?? As far as Lindholm goes he might not be so expensive, but he does have one more year under contract and he had this to say about Rod: “I just wish, because Rod Brind’Amour was always good to me, I just wish I had a chance to play for him. “He was always good to me. Always helped me. He gave me a head’s up on what the NHL was about. I will always be thankful for him.” As crazy as it may sound, it could be possible. I think it depends on what Calgary wants.
  9. Hope Shi can be coached up to be the slot for us. Flashes the ability, just need the consistency.
  10. Only one Answer to WR2 for us: Chosen Anderson
  11. Agreed! I am unsure what we are doing at the moment.
  12. He also worked for the Kings when they won 2 Stanley Cups. I agree with what the NHL source said, if you feel like you have a chance to win a Cup you have to say goodbye to some prospects that won't be helping you in the next 2-3 years.
  13. Two players I mentioned going to the Leafs that will help them. Toronto got a lot better in two weeks for basically nothing. The Canes are sitting idle with their thumb stuck up their ass. This is where opportunities are lost, and we are heading down a disappointing path. This reminds me of Francis not doing anything to make the team better.
  14. So we have already talked about the Canes not doing anything to better our Cup contending team and an NHL "source" called Waddle and the Canes out: Stick to the plan This is rule No. 1 according to the executives with whom we spoke. Burke, a Stanley Cup-winning GM, told me the three questions a team must ask itself before every deadline. "What you want to accomplish at the deadline is a direct function of how close or how far away you are," he said. "So first question is how close are you? That'll determine how active you are." Question No. 2: How specific are your needs? "If you need a third-line center, that's different than if you need a top-six forward," Burke said, which brings us to question No. 3: What do you have to offer to another club in order to fill those specific needs? "What's the trade capital? What do you have to give? What picks have you already traded away?" he said. "Do you have good young players? Do you have other assets in the AHL?" Mike Futa was an assistant general manager who helped build Stanley Cup champions with the Los Angeles Kings. He said one of the biggest mistakes teams make at the deadline is not knowing when to turn that trade capital into something tangible. "These guys kill me: The rankings tell you that you have the best prospects in the world and then they just keep getting all these prospects," said Futa, now an analyst with Sportsnet. "At what point do you look at your nuggets and say, 'Hey, they are good. But we're not winning anything." One NHL source pointed to the Carolina Hurricanes as a team like that. Now, the Hurricanes win plenty ... but haven't won a championship round since 2006. They had the sixth best prospect pool for 2022-23 and the second-best pool for 2021-22, according to The Athletic. When do they aggressively deal some of those futures for the present? "You can say Player X is going to be a stud five years from now," Futa said. "But if he can get you a piece for your core, you do it." So, yeah time to put up or shut up.......
  15. They got the most they could for him - in their opinion. SJ wasn't going to pay Timo $10M next year as they are in total rebuild mode. Timo wasn't going to sign long term in SJ. They got a lot of parts/pieces for him when they could have gotten nada. It will be funny if SJ gets the #1 pick.
  16. Yes, but both of them come with term so they will be here and under a known salary. It would take a 1st, 2nd, Morrow and + + for them. Schmaltz and Gostisbehere would be less because Gostisbehere is a rental unless you extend him and that's part of the deal. Still would cost a 1st, 2nd, and a couple of mid-tier prospects. I think we also may need to think about Boeser and Schenn from Vancouver. Boeser is having a terrible year and needs a change of scenery. Schenn is a pure rental - would cost less I think than any duo of Coyotes. Also, on defense Jake McCabe is an option with term.
  17. They will have to shed some salary going into next season if they pick up that year at $10M. As far as SJ asking for Necas I don't think that happened. Jarvis yes, plus a 1st, 2nd, and Morrow. I think the best we offered was a 1st, 2nd, and Morrow and we take on all Timo's salary. It was too rich for the Canes and the whole "rental" or expensive 1.17 years if you can't sign Timo long term and throw in the fact the Canes were 3rd or 4th on his "list." Best thing we can do now is welcome him to the east by laying the lumber to his ass and shutting him down when we play NJ.
  18. Well we did trade for Burns with him, just seems we weren't willing to give up as much for either a rental or a player who would cost us at least $10M next year. I don't fault Waddles for not paying the price SJ wanted, especially knowing Timo likes the West. From what I've read the Blues actually could have offered the absolute best package for him, but they didn't either. Cup or bust for Jersey!!
  19. For a rental who won't re-sign with the Canes. It was never going to happen because Timo wouldn't sign here. I will see if Waddles comes up with something....if not another year of wasted time within our window.
  20. The big problem with getting Timo for Carolina was him not wanting to negotiate an extension. I get we haven't done anything (yet), but damn look what Jersey gave up with no extension in place from what I've heard and also the fact that Timo likes the West Coast more than the east. Also, Timo doesn't want to extend because he's playoff bound now - put up even more #s and get more $$s. Schmaltz is still in play and maybe Gostisbehere is asked for too as a package deal?
  21. Nailed the initial offer, then from what someone told me SJ asked for way too much!
  22. Damn son, that is funny asf. Waddles needs to think long and hard about where we are at. I'll shoot him a text.
