This team is surprising at the moment. I mean we are playing AHL players to replace Svech, Patches, and Turbo and they are doing a nice job. I hope these guys play hard and the rest of the team understands how hungry they should be all the time. We are down a lot of talent, but the guys are playing hard. The next round is going to be even tougher! They are going to have to play their best and not have any letdowns against either the Devils or the Rags. I would probably watch some tape of Schmid for the Devils, he sort of unknown and seems to have the Rags confused about how and where they should attack him.

Round 3 - The Carolina Panthers Select DJ Johnson - EDGE - Oregon
Rocky Davis replied to rodeo's topic in Carolina Panthers
I watched quite a few Oregon games over the past couple of years because a coworkers son plays for the Ducks (not a starter, but maybe this season). I saw Johnson play TE in 2020 and 2021. He didn't play many games, but when he did play he was really utilized as another blocker and he road graded defensive players. He also had a couple of games where he was used in the red zone and showed his speed, good hands, and decent route running. I think he had 4 or 5 TDs. Last year he played LB and his speed and strength showed up even though he didn't put up huge sack numbers. It's sort of like Burns and Reddick....I think he'll develop into an outside rusher who can really pressure the QB fast. I hope he doesn't over pursue like Burns does at times. I think the Panthers are trying to recreate what they had with Burns and Reddick. Also, I think Johnson played for two different coaches and staff and showed versatility and a willingness to do what was best for the team. I am sure Evero had a hand in this pick, this isn't just a random pick. The Panthers staff see something they like about him and I'll trust Evero, Fitt, and Morgan on this. The guy is kind of freakish - he got to Bennett when they played Georgia and had him on the run and stepping up in the pocket a lot. Also saw him drop back in coverage and cover TEs. Give him a chance, that's all you can do.- 486 replies

Canes Vs Islanders Game 6 Friday
Rocky Davis replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Thank sweet baby Jesus. Veteran getting it done!! -
Agreed, Hall's arms and fingers are too short.

Do we trade 2 picks to move up (if we can) or do we stay at 39? I don't see a team drafting ahead of us wanting to trade down, maybe LA but that's about it. At that point I don't think it is worth it.

Official NHL Playoff Thread(non canes)
Rocky Davis replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Rags played very physical with the Devils and that's not what NJ wants. They don't really have the type of "heavy" team needed to play like that....we all know this about Dougie especially. He played just like he played for us in the playoffs tonight. He doesn't like physicality. The Devils better pressure the Rags PP or they are going to be in a world of hurt the rest of the series. I wish them luck, but classic Rags playoff roughness was in effect tonight. -

Wild win - Hartman. Wild/Stars series is going to be tight. Also, Edmonton thought they had the OT winner but former Cane Derek Ryan high sticked the puck in. Both he and Foegele were providing net front for the Oilers....should have had them do it more here! -
Just giving our resident Devils fan a hard time, I rather see the Devils beat the Rags than Trouba and Co. moving on. Fug the Rags.
-
Did you notice the winky emoji at the end of my post?
-
I don't think the Panthers beat the Bruins in a 7 game series, but it won't be as easy as everyone thinks. The same goes for the Canes against the Isles and your Devils against the Rags. We all know Toronto against the Lightning is going to be crazy. Is there a Devils forum you can go spew some of your bullshit on?
-
I remember sending Boston home last year. The regular season is over....it's about what happens now. Cup or bust for the almighty Bruins. Good luck fugers.
-
Well we somehow ended up playing a "we gotta outscore them" type game tonight...basically playing a terrible 3rd period and we won. Release the hounds Rod. (Still worried our defense has been better than our offense in scoring goals the last 2-3 weeks) If both sides get going offensively it would be welcomed!
-
Neither the Isles or the Panthers are going to be easy outs in the playoffs. The Islanders got better before and at the trade deadline while we are not quite as good (just being honest). Overall we are the better team, but the Isles have the goalies to steal games and added more offense with Horvat. It's go time, let's hope the boys are ready to lay it all on the line and play like it's them against the world because that's what it's going to take.

sorry I thought I read earlier in the thread Ned got pulled...I wasn't able to catch the game! He got pulled for an extra attacker! Still glad he took the L.
-
I think Ghost is who and what we thought he would be for the team. Puljujarvi needs to be told his job is to throw his body around and get to the front of the net and put the recycling in the bin. Keep it physical and simple....
-
After stealing that game a week ago I am glad we got to him and he hit the pine. I liked Ned a lot until he overvalued himself right out of the organization. He should have been able to put Detroit on his back and carry them to the playoffs this year......
-
Mo is going to want to beat the Canes for sure now. I know most of his ties with the organization are now gone, but he served here as HC twice. Revenge, retribution - whatever you want to call it is always sweet. That, and the fact that the Panthers can avoid the Booins in the first round are really going to make Florida play hard.

New Goalie Acquired, Canes sign Yaniv Perets.
Rocky Davis replied to panthers81's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Yeah RBA's son was drafted by the Oilers in 2017 and he becomes a FA this fall. I am sure he has a pretty strong work ethic, but I don't believe a lot of NHL teams will be trying to sign him. He will need a good amount of time in the AHL and projects at best as a 3rd line player. -
It was the D that scored both goals, this team is in a terrible rut offensively. I think RBA has to have a Come to Jesus meeting with the team. FFS losing games like this doesn't set up the playoffs well.

Next Season's Goalies- Who Ya Got?
Rocky Davis replied to Anybodyhome's topic in Carolina Hurricanes
Korpisalo is the one I would target, not sure the Kings are going to let him leave town easily though. I like Hill and his youth, but not sure he is one that doesn't benefit from a solid defense in front of him more often than not. We can't roll with Raanta or Andersen as a 1a because they are going to miss long stretches with injuries and Koochie still isn't quite ready. I'd say if Nashville was really in full rebuild mode then I'd go after Saros or even Lankinen, but after trading away a lot of key pieces they are hanging in there for that last WC in the West. I'm not sure they will want to do any trading. Askarov isn't ready for the NHL either. -
Kane never wanted to be here, but the rest of the names you mentioned I am with you. Not acquiring Meier still doesn't bother me quite as much as others because I really think you see him end up back West soon. NJ may pay that one $10M season, but he doesn't sign there as a UFA. Tarasenko, Horvat, hell even Nino....why didn't we get one of them? Just insane.

We did a good thing by renting Ghost, we needed another d-man who could run a power play or make a power play more dangerous in the late going by running him + Burns. We knew going into that trade that it was most likely a rental and at worse you were getting defensive ability equal to Coglan. A knee jerk move was made for Puljujarvi because we didn't have the cajones to go after someone else with more offensive upside. He hasn't brought anything to the team and his fellow Finns aren't making him better. We didn't lose anything really because Puistola hadn't signed with us and there were no guarantee that he was so it's a wash really. The Canes didn't do two things I thought they needed to do: 1.) like everyone here knows we didn't get a scorer or even a scoring threat who would have made this team more dangerous. This was a huge error and we may pay for it more dearly than we thought the way things have played out the last month and 2.) I thought we should have dealt for another goalie. I think Raanta has been better than Andersen this year and Koochie isn't ready. We have maybe had a handful of games the goalie has "stolen" for us this year, but neither Raanta or Andersen with the injuries and the way they have played this year should ever be expected to steal a game here or there when you are in the playoffs. The Bruins, Lightning, Rangers, and a case can be made that the Maple Leafs all have better goaltending than us. That leaves us hanging out with NJ, the Islanders, the Panthers and the Pens as to what kind of goaltending are we going to get tonight. I almost think the Isles and the Panthers have better goalie situations than we do at the moment and at least NJ has offensive firepower to overcome their goalies when they are bad. We haven't been very good, overall, from an offensive perspective all season. We have glimpses here and there of Aho, Svech, or Necas putting on a show for us but then they disappear for long stretches. Our PP is not good and is it really a great thing when your defense is scoring at a higher clip than your offense? Yeah, it would be if our O was just as good or better but they aren't. I said it months ago: either Rod turns the team loose and tries to win 5-4, 4-3 games or he makes this team the second coming of the NJD trap teams from the 90s if we have any shot to raise a Cup. The way we play now isn't going to do it. This is the way.

We don't suck, but we've got issues and they weren't addressed and now we got to play it out...... Preds fighting hard for a playoff spot.
