  1. I do remember Foxy saying, "it is what it is". Sigh!
  2. At the peak of a veteran player's time playing, there's nothing a coach can tell him he doesn't already know. At that point the coach's job is to get the young players in the room to strive for that level of work ethic, dedication and technique. The veteran's job is no longer to obediently listen to everything the coach says, but show teammates that even at his level, he's still working to improve himself. It shouldn't be a surprise that established veterans take a dim view of new coaches who try to change a team's established culture or impose new unwritten rules, especially when they conflict with the old ones.
  3. Yes, i was thinking the Panthers might retire that number to honor Clausen, who got us Cam Newton. :0
  4. I plan on buying a # 2 DJ Moore jersey as soon as they are available.
  5. This is one of the very best and most informative posts i have seen on the Huddle in a long time.
  6. The Carolina Panthers have a lot to look forward to in 2021 and i am not buying into ESPN'S 25th power ranking for the team. They have a crop of impressive young talent, headlined by Christian McCaffrey, Brian Burns, DJ Moore, Jeremy Chinn and Derrick Brown is preparing to take the next step in their football journeys. Their bountiful draft class is full of value and potential. Heck, even seeing what Sam Darnold can do in here in Carolina could be fun.
  7. Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter In regards to @peter_kings report from last night about Atlanta listening on Julio Jones, and why it would be a post June 1 move: *If the Falcons trade him after June 1, they save $15 million against the cap. *If the Falcons trade him before June 1, it would be a $23M cap hit.
  8. Cam Newton might not be able to hold Jones off for the whole season, but he likely gives the Patriots a better shot at winning early in the year. Jones will obviously have a fairly steep learning curve, much like every rookie and free agent to ever land in New England. I just don’t see Jones being under center Week 1.
  9. D.J. Moore left off PFF’s list of the NFL’s top 32 wide receivers The Carolina Panthers should have plenty of bulletin board material going into the 2021 season. Their projected win totals around the ‘net almost all have them finishing below .500, and even some of their most-talented offensive play-makers can’t seem to get any respect. For example, Pro Football Focus recently put together a list of the top 32 wide receivers in the NFL. A few things stand out, not least of which is Julio Jones coming in at No. 5. What’s even more strange is that the Panthers didn’t get one name on the list, most notably their WR1, D.J. Moore. It’s even more odd considering PFF’s own data shows Moore is one of the league’s best receivers with the ball in his hands. Moore has also become a stud on contested deep throws. Now entering his fourth year in the league, Moore still flies under the radar in part because he’s quiet and also because he hasn’t scored that many touchdowns – he has 10 so far. Julio could tell you that those numbers are very-much tied into quarterback play, red zone targets and overall offensive efficiency. In any case, for Moore to miss the list entirely seems like a bit of an oversight. Nobody’s saying Moore should challenge Davante Adams for the top spot. However, at the very least, he should rank ahead of several names at the bottom of PFF’s ranking, including Courtland Sutton, Brandin Cooks, Will Fuller, Tyler Boyd, Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods.
  10. Carolina Panthers 2021 Mock Draft 8.0: The Final Prediction The Riot Report on the Panthers final three QB'S (3): Sam Darnold, PJ Walker and Tommy Stevens You’ll begin to see a pattern with a lot of these position groups as the Panthers Rhule/Fitterer regime begins to move on from the Hurney Era – I expect them to move on from 2019 third-round pick Will Grier in favor of their version of Taysom Hill in Tommy Stevens. Rhule is clearly a big believer in position flexibility, so having Stevens, who can double as the emergency QB and backup TE among other spots, seems more likely than keeping Grier, who may end up in Washington like so many other QBs of a bygone era.
  11. In my opinion Brady Christensen is the future Panthers left tackle Entered league/Acquired: Drafted in third round of 2021 NFL draft by Panthers Positions played: Entering rookie season Christensen played left tackle throughout his career at BYU. It was his explosive pro day numbers that helped attract the Panthers. At 6-foot-6, 300-pounds, down about two pounds from his pro day in March, Christensen is an athletic lineman. He posted a 10-foot-4-inch vertical jump, a 4.89 seconds 40-yard dash and a 34-inch vertical leap. His vertical jump was the best recorded by an offensive lineman among available NFL Scouting Combine records. Christensen was also the highest graded tackle in a season ever by PFF (96.0). The Panthers will try out Christensen, who will turn 25-years old in September, at different spots leading up to the season and it’s possible he ends up as a valuable backup for multiple positions his rookie year. The goal is for the available backups to play more than one spot, as was needed last year due to inevitable injuries and other circumstances.
  12. Rod Smart AKA He Hate Me Rod was a big personality type that played for the Panthers from 2002 to 2005. He played on the Panthers' NFC championship team in 2003.
  13. I would have to think long and hard about that kind of trade because the Cowboys 1st pick next year would be the same as our 2nd rd pick this year, where we drafted Terrance Marshall..
  14. My choice would be Jake Delhomme who never achieved Super Star status, even though in his seven seasons here, he lead the Panthers to three playoff appearances and Super Bowl XXXVIII. He ranks second in franchise history with 19,258 passing yards and 120 passing touchdowns for a 82.6 passer rating as a Panther. His 21 game-winning drives are the most in franchise history. What's not to like.

  16. The Jaguars drafted Armstead out of Temple in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft. After rushing 35 times for 108 yards and catching 14 passes for 144 yards as a rookie, Armstead was expected to compete for a bigger role last season after the departure of Leonard Fournette. COVID-19 took serious toll on Armstead But he landed on the COVID-19 in training camp and a second time in September. He was reportedly hospitalized twice with "significant respiratory issues” amid a serious bout with COVID-19. It's not clear if Armstead continues to suffer long-term effects of his COVID-19 infection.
  17. I am anxious to see RB Chuba Hubbard in action and hope he is all and more that Coach Rhule says he is. If that is indeed the case, we may have gotten a steal drafting him in the 4th round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
  18. I am impressed by the fact the Panthers are quick to evaluate players and make decisions to let them go if they are not up to certain required standards. I like the signing of safety Delano Hill and defensive end Kendall Donnerson but cannot help but be a little concerned about Delano Hills history of back injuries, something that often lingers or could flare up later.
  19. I have never been on board to gut our team just to get Watson. My inner feeling is that Darnold is going to work out just fine. Plus, we are putting pieces in place for him to succeed, lets not mess it up and bring in the malcontented Watson who may decide later this is not the place for him, just like he did in Houston.

  22. The Broncos are going nowhere with Drew Lock and his league-leading interception total; Teddy Bridgewater will serve as a competent bridge piece to whoever the Broncos look at next, but he isn’t the long-term answer.
  23. Exactly. I have the same gut feeling that he either shapes up or he will be shipped out. This is no longer a Jerry Richardson, Ron Rivera, Marty Hurney run team that coddles deadwood that does not meet expectations.
