What in the everloving fruit of the loom croissant butter is this?
KatsAzz replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Good article by Darin Gantt. Thanks for posting it. -
I have been on board for every Panthers draft since day one and this was by far the most exciting one. Hopefully it will play out in the long just as excellent as it presently seems.

Round 5 (b) - pick 22 - Keith Taylor DB from Washington
KatsAzz replied to Jackofalltrades's topic in Carolina Panthers
This: {" Taylor would be best in a zone-heavy scheme, either outside or in the slot, and may have a future at safety if things do not work out at cornerback."} -
Round 5(a) - Carolina Panthers select Daviyon Nixon - DT- Iowa

Good going. Looks like we stole a draft pick. -
Round 4 - Carolina Panthers select Chuba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State.
KatsAzz replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Hubbard is a patient and confident runner that runs well behind his pads. Keeping a low center of gravity, he’s a one cut and accelerate runner that’s had lots of success in the wide-open Air Raid offense. With adequate vision and the athleticism to take advantage of small spaces, he’s a threat that could thrive in a zone-based blocking scheme that leverages angles and relies on quick cuts from rushers. Hubbard’s biggest deficiencies come in the passing game, as he’s failed to become a reliable option in that department. A somewhat conflicted catcher of the ball, he can fight it and struggle to haul passes in. Also a liability as a pass protector, he doesn’t bring the same physicality as a blocker as he does when possessing the ball. -
Matt Rhule “I thought Scott was masterful today”
KatsAzz replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
All three new players Friday were very productive college players and “elite athletes,” as Rhule said, available on the second day of the draft only because of minor perceived deficiencies. For Marshall, it’s his medical history. For Christensen, he’s 24, meaning he’s a year older than Darnold, who is about to play his fourth NFL season. For Tremble, he’s a tight end who was used as a blocker most of the time at Notre Dame and so the question is whether he can develop as a receiver or just be Chris Manhertz 2.0. Still, the Panthers deserve some credit for turning what was going to be two picks on the second day of the draft into three by the end of Friday. -
The four Panthers trades: ▪ The Panthers sent No. 39 and 151 to the Bears in exchange for Nos. 52, 83 and 204. ▪ The Panthers traded back to No. 59 in the second round from No. 52, sending the Cleveland Browns pick No. 113. Carolina also got pick No. 89. ▪ The Panthers traded up to No. 70, and sent No. 73 and 191 to the Philadelphia Eagles. ▪ The Panthers traded No. 89 to the Texans. They received No. 109, No. 158 and a 2022 fourth-round pick. Panthers players drafted: Pick No. 59: LSU WR Terrace Marshall Jr. Pick No. 70: BYU OT Brady Christensen Pick No. 83: Notre Dame TE Tommy Tremble The remaining picks are: Fourth round: Pick No. 109 Fifth round: No. 158 Sixth round: Nos. 193, 204, 222 Fitterer previously worked with the Seattle Seahawks, who are known for trading back, especially in the first round. The Panthers are looking to add to a variety of positions in this year’s draft and getting more picks was a priority coming into the weekend. Often, the most successful teams in the draft are those with the most draft selections. Carolina was not known for trading back under former general manager Marty Hurney, and made big moves to trade up in the order during each of the last two drafts. In 2019, the Panthers traded up to acquire left tackle Greg Little in the second round and moved into the second round in 2020 to take hybrid defender Jeremy Chinn.

Sam Darnold: His defenders say he just needs a chance in a better environment. He will get that. The Carolina Panthers didn't draft a quarterback in the first round, even with Justin Fields and Mac Jones on the board. They already traded Teddy Bridgewater. In the second round, the Panther selected LSU receiver Terrace Marshall Jr., a fantastic college player who slipped due to injury concerns. He'll be paired with D.J. Moore and Robby Anderson, a pair of 1,000-yard receivers. Darnold also has superback Christian McCaffrey with him. Then in the third round, the Panthers added to the line by drafting BYU tackle Brady Christensen. It's a good situation. The Panthers are showing a lot of faith in Darnold, and not much of it has been earned. The dysfunctional Jets situation has been blamed. Now we'll have a chance to see.

Round 2 - Carolina Panthers select LSU WR Terrace Marshall
KatsAzz replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Got to love and be excited about this pick. {"A big, fast receiver with solid hands, Marshall posses the talent to become an instant impact guy on Sundays. He possess the ability to play both inside and outside, but really shows his strength when he reaches the second or third levels of the defense. With his length and speed combo he is able to get good space between him and his defender to complete those big plays all offenses are looking for in todays game. When you drop him in the slot he is able to gain inside leverage, and is able to showcase the type of grit you are looking for when it comes to yards after the catch. Overall, Marshall does project to be an “X” receiver at the NFL level."} -
Round 1 - Carolina Panthers Select CB Jaycee Horn
KatsAzz replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I like the selection of CB Jaycee Horn because one of his strengths is being able to matchup against bigger receivers in the NFL because of his size. He also has the speed and feet to match routes well with those great receivers in the conference. I can definitely understand the thought process behind the pick. -

Micah Parsons better stick to his day job. I give him credit for being a good football player but public speaking will not be his strong suit. -

I agree. I had a hard time just listening to Micah Parsons ramble on. It will be interesting to see how he does in Dallas. -

I was really wanting Sewell and we came close but getting a much needed ,top notch CB like Jaycee Horn was not all that bad. There should be some good offensive lineman we can draft in the 2nd Rd that will complement our 1st Rd pick. -

I have waited a year for NFL Draft Day 4/29/21 and now it's here.

One with a lot of time on their hands. Ha Ha

Face facts, even Tom Brady would have looked bad on your crappy 2020 Jets team. Personally,i like new Panthers QB Sam Darnold and feel he will be able to reach his potential here in Carolina if we give him a decent supporting cast, something he didn't have in New York.

Little did Teddy know he was waving goodbye for the last time to Carolina Panther Fans when he left the field Sunday January 3 2021, following the 33-7 season ending loss to the New Orleans Saints.

https://www.panthers.com/news/panthers-trade-teddy-bridgewater-to-denver Panthers trade Teddy Bridgewater to Denver Darin Gantt CHARLOTTE — Such that there were lingering questions, the Panthers answered them Wednesday. The Panthers cleared the way for new quarterback Sam Darnold to work without any kind of cloud over his head or doubt about his status, trading incumbent starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater to the Broncos for a 2021 sixth-round pick. Dealing Bridgewater was likely inevitable once the Panthers traded three picks (including a second- and fourth-rounder next year) for the 23-year-old Darnold earlier this month. Bridgewater, 28, started 15 games for the Panthers last year, missing one with a knee injury. He threw for 3,733 yards in 2020, and his 69.1 completion percentage ranked fifth in the league among regular starters. But he had just 15 touchdowns on the season, and faltered late in some games. Of course, blaming all of last year's offensive issues on Bridgewater would be disingenuous. He played in just three games with running back Christian McCaffrey, the last of which was a 33-31 loss at Kansas City which showed what the offense might have been. Bridgewater was 5-0 as a starter in New Orleans in 2019, playing well in relief of Drew Brees. But that never translated the same way in Charlotte, leading them to cut bait a year into the three-year deal he signed last offseason. He won the NFL's 2020 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award, given annually to a player who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition. Now they have a more clearly defined depth chart, though they're still able to add to the position if the opportunity arises this weekend. The Panthers also have backups P.J. Walker and Will Grier, along with versatile Tommy Stevens, a sometimes tight end. And with the trade, the Panthers now have eight picks in the 2021 NFL Draft (eighth overall, 39th, 73rd, 113th, 151st, 191st, 193rd, 222nd).

We don't know how the Panthers brain trust has currently rated the supposed top five quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL Draft and this certainly would be a major factor if their evaluations have shifted. They might have Darnold ahead of all the QB’s except Lawrence. In that case, they certainly wouldn’t be drafting an inferior QB. I don’t think it’s unanimous that everyone believes Darnold looked his best with the Jets. History shows many super bowl winning QB’s were given up on by their original teams, but became winners when they went to good teams. Steve Young. Brett Favre. Jim Plunkett. Kurt Warner. Drew Brees. It will, happen again. Unless you’re out there thinking the Jets are a sound organization. I’d say they are the exact type of organization that would get rid of a great QB, and then watch him win elsewhere. I don’t remember anyone’s jaw hitting the floor when Tampa Bay gave up on Steve Young, and most people had never heard of Brett Favre when Atlanta gave up on him. New England was the worst franchise in the NFL when they gave up on Jim Plunkett. Everyone thought all those QB’s were busts.

I cannot agree with some of Chris Simms picks. He has OT Penei Sewell,Oregon going as the # 7 pick, which may be about right but has OT Christian Darrisaw, Virginia Tech #13 and OT Rashawn Slater,Northwestern #20. I personally want us to stay put at # 8, hoping OT Penei Sewell drops to us. If he does not drop to #8 then draft OT Rashawn Slater. In the event we trade back, i want us to take the best available CB or OT Christian Darrisaw, the choice would depend on how far we traded back.
