Jake had a lot of things until Tommy Jone came calling

Playoffs by year 3. League MVP by year 5. Seems decent.

Your starting Quarterback of the Carolina Panthers….PJ Walker

comical is saying that with this defense and CMC….we lose out. Atlanta, Miami, WTF are 3 of the next 4 games. It’s the NFL. A roster like ours isn’t going to lose all those. See earlier this year as proof. It’s how we got those 4. That’s where the remaining wins are. Not at the end. and this is just like last season. Where people blasted the folks who were critical of Teddy and wouldn’t overrate him….and then those same folks got mad at the folks for not blaming Teddy for everything when they turned on him. Sam sucks. And now that pro Sam crowd has acknowledged it they are going to swing to the extreme the other way and act like we can’t do anything. -
AZ didn’t have a winning season the two years prior to Wilks getting the job and Wilks drafted and was working with a rookie QB

Yep. 2018 - hired a new HC, drafted a top 10 QB 2019- hired a new HC, drafted a top 10 QB AZ fugged up, admitted it, and moved on.

There is this weird narrative on the year. Where Sam overall is falsely inflated as better than he is and PJ is talked as not able to even tie his shoes. I guess I get it since once arrived here via a long journey of being a high draft pick and one the XFL…. I mean they are the same level of bad in reality. Neither should be playing but both will in the end. That is what I think people will find out of the next 4 weeks. And I’m talking about PJ being comparable to NYJ Sam. Not the Clausen version of late he has devolved into. we got at least 2 more wins on the year and they are coming in the next 4 weeks. Schedule is what it is. Rest of the Panthers are what they are. And people probably are going to be mad those wins come because of draft position IMO. -
the physical talent narrative gets overplayed for QBs. I mean, there are hundreds of guys with better physical tools than Tom Brady that can't make a roster. Run faster, throw farther, throw harder. None of that matters at QB in the NFL. It's all do you have the brains and accuracy to win the chess matchups. Wheels a valued perk for those that can do that.

I'd give you Harbaugh. Chip Kelly took over a 4 win team and went to the playoffs year one. Chip Kelly's success was Chip Kelly bringing his college show to the pros. I always put Chip Kelly and Spurrier in the same group. Two guys who essetnially brought there legendary college game to the pros for the world to see. 2 very different results.

Hmmm...I mean, that seems like a really small sample size though. I mean, so many teams have simply belonged to certain familes for such a long period of time. Panthers and Jags essentially hit on the right coaches when they were formed. Houston attempted the Panther model but I think the game has passed Capers by at that point. So the recent expansions teams are 2 out of 3 with hires. Can't really keep track of all the teams that have been bought and sold.

exactly, this guy right here understands what happens when PJ starts a game. Nothing but wins.

Wednesday press confernce - Darnold out 4 weeks. IR likely.
CRA replied to trueblade's topic in Carolina Panthers
lol, I don't know who the dude was that followed up on Joe Person's question. Something along the lines of, Matt you might of answered this but I want to ask again, how could you NOT (his emphasis) sign Cam Newton lol. Rhule probably going to get him banned. -

listening to Matt Rhule talk about Darnold's injury is painful. He essentially plays the dumb schmuck role so hard. Listen, guys, I am not in a position to ask Sam about when all this happened lol. He should watch some Fox/Rivera pressers on how to not answer questions. -
of qualifying HCs that went from college to pros since 2000....majority were gone after 2 seasons. Chip Kelly and Harbaugh went to the playoffs in year 1.

Bleacher Report: Guess who's NOT on this list?
CRA replied to PanthersATL's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well, I guess Matt Rhule can sleep easy if someone no one knows from the Bleacher Report says he is safe. -
It’s says annual search volume…. Which probably means Tepper’s name comes up a lot in the financial world. Kahn #3 too. So what is being suggested with the list…clearly isn’t what it actually is.

Go ahead, admit it. Huddle confessionals.
CRA replied to Ivan The Awesome's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was overly optimistic and tonight they could at least get to 7-10. -
well, if you use the NFL as the standard.... it wouldn't be nuts.

Cousins is definately more polished. It's the risk adverse issue though. And risk adverse QBs often look much better on paper than gunslinger types. But his career in Minny also has featured his teammates routintely blasting him during games for not throwing the ball. Because Cousins too often won't make attempt the play that needs to be made. Cousins is 28-26-1 in Minny with 1 playoff win. Jake was 53-37 in Carolina with 5 playoffs win. and I don't think the arguement holds that the difference there is simply Jake having sigfnicantly better talent. They are just polar opposite QBs. And the stats will always reflect that IMO.
-
well, put Rhule aside. Let's say we did happen to fire someone who you agree was clearly a mistake. What is the quicket you would endorse just admitting that and moving on.
-
3rd. He isn't leapfrogging Cam and Jake just by walking in the door. Cousins false into that risk adverse tier of QB. While he might be more polished than Jake, the willingness to put the ball up matters. And Jake's teams had more overall success in Carolina vs Cousin's Minny teams because of that.
-
well, that technically is a different argument IMO than what is suggested by just saying Ohio St QBs. Given the specific narrative around the guys that played there of late. I don't disagree with what you are saying entirely. Bama is a great example. The talent disparity between Bama and even other top programs is often big. I was down w/ Fields largely because he had Brent Venebles beat twice on the big stage despite only getting one win. There really are only a handful of games that mean much with the mega programs.
-
The actual issue was Urban Meyer QBs. Those are the ones that set a trend. Consistent trend of those in his offense not working out. From FL to Ohio St. but Fields didn't play for Urban and in his offense. That's why the narrative was irrelevant.
-
current trajectory IMO would still have to change to get that year 3. current trajectory is downward. Which means more bad comes with that. NFL players flex and demand more and more as the years go on. If the current trejectory maintains, you got to think you will start seeing and hearing about guys talking. Wanting to bounce to greener pastures. You can't lose the team and get a 3rd year. These guys have short windows to play this game.
-
it's the NFL. You don't get long. Every HC we have had got us into the playoffs by year 3. Nothing suggests Rhule has us on that track. The only one who didn't was shown the door.
