two different things. Think you are missing my point or I stated it poorly. Hurts and Tua were both significantly more talented than Mac Jones. Which made them better players. Was Mac Jones technically a more sound QB than Hurts at Bama? Probably. I mean you could be the most fundamentally sound LB in college football. But if you ain't got the talent to go with it. You are selling insurance. I wasn't advocating Mac Jones as better than Fields. I think he technically plays the position traditionally better at this stage. It isn't actually praise of Mac. Just like I wasn't praising the dudes drafted after Cam Newton that were better QBs at the time. Cam was the best player and more talented.

Wilson already has had surgery on this throwing shoulder.
-
Mac Jones is a better QB than Fields right now. There were plenty of better QBs than Cam Newton in his draft too. Consensus among the scouts is Fields has more talent and the higher ceiling.

Ohio St had different assortment of 20+ athletes out each with COVID for over a month. Just reality. And that is the window you selectively are choosing to focus on with Justin Fields. Which is silly. Especially when he has an entire season of work that exists against top tier competition in 2019 and the CFP in 2020 when they finally were out of that COVID nightmare. Being a one hit wonder vs weak competition is always a red flag for me. As are QBs that consistently bail from a clean pockets. That is one of those QB DNA things for me. That's Wilson.

They had 22 players out with COVID in the game vs Northwestern. Game before cancelled because of COVID. Had 23 players out the game prior to that. Game before that cancelled due to COVID. Ohio St not being a fine tuned machine wasn't a Justin Field's problem. All teams weren't dealing w/ the same COVID scenario. Clemson for example had a high percentage get infected before the season started. As a result, they would have one or two or three guys out a given week. Generally not even a starter. Totally manageable. Was basically dealt with like a standard weekly injury where 1 guy might be out. Ohio St was dealing with something completely different. Yet, the emphasis on Fields is that comical COVID window where Ohio St had an assortment of 20+ athletes out every week for over a month straight in the heart of the season. What about Zach Wilson's big games? The Hawaii Bowl vs a crap defense where he was horrible. Or how bad he was in games vs Utah and San Diego St that same year? What would you define as the best game Zach Wilson every played as being? What are the question marks on Wilson? How is a comparison of the two just a criticism of Fields. Again, we got folks claiming there is nothing Fields does better than Wilson lol. Which is absurd.

Knock on Fields is not processing stuff quick enough. And yeah, holding on to the ball too long is part of that. ball placement/accuracy? I’m a Trevor stan and I’d give that to Fields over Trevor. Wilson ain’t better in that department. Fields has great mechanics. Great ball placement. Great legs. And we got people saying he does nothing better than Wilson?
-
He played the best D coordinator in the first round both times. Beat the poo out of Clemson this year. An all time performance. year before? He had Clemson at the end of the game. WR quit running. That ain’t on Fields. The other pick was the probably the best defensive player in the game making a great play and leaving his responsibly to make the play. He didn’t perform poorly against Clemson. He didn’t play great vs Bama. That is one game. Against the best roster and coach in all of college. Trevor looked really bad vs LSU and that wasn’t even a great defense. And he had a healthy O roster that year around him. Bad games happen.

again, I don’t disagree the QB is the piece that matters most. Which is why I won’t complain about the farm being given up for Watson. but Zach Wilson isn’t Watson. Draft him at 8? Cool. I don’t love him but won’t complain. Trade up to 3? Not worth it to me. Cost far too high for that lotto scratch off. and best compliment you can give a QB is a D. So if we aren’t investing in a QB with the first pick I lean what would aid in our current D getting better. Huge hole at the second level right now.
-
I still feel there is some weird pro Wilson/anti Fields campaign that was launched. Take ball placement/accuracy. That is Field’s strength. Probably an argument he is the #1 QB in the draft in that aspect.
-
What team drafts you impacts your success/career as well. I personally think the Jags made the wrong hire once in a position to draft Lawrence. You find yourself in position to draft golden boy....and follow it up with hiring a controversy plagued college coach in Urban Meyer.
-
for Sam Darnold?
-
but I guess this is all just silly fun talk. Given we all know Deshaun Watson going to be our starting QB next year.
-
Well, if you put on Field's best tape vs Wilson's best tape.....I say Field's wins that battle. Go watch Field's bust up Clemson. One of the top 3 programs in all of college football with the best defensive coordinator in the game. Clemson's D might not be Bama in terms of bodies....but what he went up against wasn't a joke. What is Wilson's best tape? I'd also say Field's 2019 seasons was better than Wilson's 2020. I don't think enough acknowledge how crazy the roster changes were for Ohio St week to week in 2020.
-
To trade up to Miami's spot....we could offer them every 2021 draft pick we got. And there response would be....AND? I'd still rather draft Parson's vs that and then go after Sam Darnold if those are my two options. I'd rather sit at #8. See if a QB falls. Not get crazy ahead of time. We see QBs fall all the time.
-
I'm personally not buying into this recent creation of Wilson. That it is Trevor. Gap. Wilson. Gap. Fields/Lance. I still got Fields over Wilson.
-
I know your just messing around. But for others, my BPA if Lawrence and Field are off the table is not a QB at #8. I don't want to trade up. Heck, trade I'd be happier drafting Parsons and if the Jets draft a QB going out and getting Sam Darnold. I'd prefer that over trading a bunch of picks to go up and get Wilson.
-
same. if we can't land Watson. I'd don't want to move up in this draft. Sit tight and see if Fields/Wilson fall to us. If not? Draft BPA or trade down.
-
Huge money and a quick trip back to his pad/home. Can't blame him.
-
NBC's Peter King wont be suprised if Mac Jones goes ahead of Lance
CRA replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is great pending we aren’t the team he is referencing I do think Mac Jones could see the field and be ready for legit NFL reps before Lance is ready -
The NFL isn't a team's medical staff. and we know it is different...there are plenty of examples of it. Ramsey. AJ Green. Just to name a couple big name/recent examples. Can you name an example where a team challenged the health of a their player and went after him? I've never seen it in this current era.
-
medical can't say it isn't real. No NFL medical staff is going to come out and be like, nah...he ain't got one.
-
you can't prove a soft tissue injury isn't real though. and most athletes probably have some variation of them they play through all season.
-
Mandalorian looking like Saved by the Bell reruns at this point.
-
soft tissue injury. back. hammy.

WandaVision entering like peak Game of Thrones territory. So good.
