I'm not saying he's not hurt. McCaffrey was legitimately hurt plenty too. But players have a habit of sitting out more games than necessary once they realize the team isn't going anywhere.
-
I knew it. Players sign here to get paid millions, play 2 games and get stashed on I.R. every year after faking injuries. Unserious franchise.
-
XL is awful. He's not a football player, period. He's an athlete with zero feel for the game.
-
I'd be very surprised if that was the case.

I think Canales can be a solid coach under the right circumstances, but I have little to no faith in our front office and scouting department to do anything but luck into good players in the draft. We seem to have hit on a player in TMac, but you should get a good player in the top-10 so that's nothing to brag about. We also got lucky and found a gem UDFA in Jalen Coker, but at the same time we made one of the worst 1st round picks in franchise history that same year in Xavier Legette. We also seem to have found something in Brycen Tremayne so that's not nothing, but overall it's hard to look at the lack of talent we've brought in via the draft in recent years and not see a clear problem.

I don't think it's fair to say all he did was take checkdowns against prevent defense. He did make some really nice throws that helped get us back in the game. Arizona may have been playing prevent on that first drive we scored on in the 3rd, but not after that. Do I think Bryce is the answer at QB? No; at this point that is clear, but I will give him credit when it's due. However, as has been said, a quality starting QB doesn't only come alive when the game is out of hand; they play well enough from the start to ensure the game never does get out of hand. I will say, though, it doesn't help when we're asking him to play with one WR (XL) that is essentially just a decoy.

The biggest problem, IMO, is that Tepper has never truly cut the cord and started fresh. There has always been some remnant of a previous regime left over when he's tried to start fresh. 1) Fired Rivera, but kept Hurney. 2) Let Hurney go, but kept Rhule. 3) Fired Rhule, but kept Fitterer. 4) Fired Reich/Fitterer, but promoted Morgan. If we're going to clean house, let's actually CLEAN fuging HOUSE and tear this thing down to the foundation and re-build properly.

Xavier Legette might be the worst player in the entire league, including practice squads. For that pick alone Morgan needs to be on the hotseat.

They'll both be on I.R. by week 7.

Ickey still out? He good?

Sellers will absolutely not be a late round anything. He'll go 1st round based off traits alone.
-
Lite? I'm not sure there's any 'lite' about him. He reminds me more of Cam than any QB coming out of college since Josh Allen, and Sellers is significantly better as a passer than Josh Allen was coming out of Wyoming. Still raw, yes, but farther along in his development than Allen was and has played against much better competition in the SEC. Now, he hasn't shown the ability to outright carry a team on his back the way Cam did at Auburn, but that's an extraordinarily rare trait for a QB. Most QB prospects don't check that particular box. On the flip side, South Carolina has a lot more talent than Auburn did when Cam was there so Sellers hasn't had to carry them.

I also really have a tough time imagining LaNorris Sellers asking to be taken out of a game because he's tired.

Who are the top QB prospects for the 2015 draft?

It really does. Without a QB, you've got no shot. -

I'd be fully on board with drafting Sellers and sitting him for a year if necessary. Get a veteran who can start during his rookie year and let him learn. He's got elite potential. -
Sellers is my favorite if we're picking high enough to get a QB.

ProFootballFocus on Xavier Legette
Jay Roosevelt replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
XL is trash. Worst WR I've seen since at least Dwayne Jarrett. -
Hurney is the best GM this franchise has ever had. Perfect? No. But he knew how to hit on 1st rounders.
-
I mean, Hunt and Lewis were free agents. Not sure that counts.
-
I've been a big Bryce supporter, but he objectively is not "fine." Not that the play calling and trash WR play from everyone not named TMac helps, but this isn't just a matter of a lack of a supporting cast. He's not making basic plays even when they are there to be made.

If the other guy didn't try to have someone murdered, Xavier Legette would easily be the worst draft pick this franchise has ever spent on a WR.

How many games before they pull the plug for good
Jay Roosevelt replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
To be fair, I don't know that it'd make much of a difference with how awful our defense is who the QB is. -

Which is exactly why it's the organization's job to care about it. -

This. Who are we going to lose exactly? Is Xavier Legette going to throw a hissy fit and start actually catching more than rodents? Is Trevin Wallace going to stop trying to tackle? And if he did could we even tell? -
All you can really do is keep taking shots until you hit on a player. This honestly isn't anything new. QBs have always been a crapshoot. 1ST ROUND QBs SINCE 2010: HOME RUN (ELITE/FRANCHISE QB): Cam Newton (2011) Andrew Luck (2012) Patrick Mahomes (2017) Josh Allen (2018) Lamar Jackson (2018) Joe Burrow (2020) Justin Herbert (2020) Jordan Love (2020) - DEBATABLE ELITE/LONG-TERM STARTER, BUT TRENDING UP. Jayden Daniels (2024) - TRENDING. BUST (NOT AT LEAST A LONG-TERM STARTER): Sam Bradford (2010) The Golden Calf of Bristol (2010) Jake Locker (2011) Blaine Gabbert (2011) Christian Ponder (2011) Robert Griffin III (2012) - INJURY BUST Brandon Weeden (2012) E.J. Manuel (2013) Blake Bortles (2014) Johnny Manziel (2014) Jameis Winston (2015) Marcus Mariota (2015) Carson Wentz (2016) Paxton Lynch (2016) Mitchell Trubisky (2017) Josh Rosen (2018) Daniel Jones (2019) Dwayne Haskins (2019) - R.I.P. Zach Wilson (2021) Trey Lance (2021) Mac Jones (2021) Kenny Pickett (2022) Bryce Young (2023) - TRENDING Anthony Richardson (2023) - TRENDING LONG-TERM STARTER (NOT ELITE): Ryan Tannehill (2012) Teddy Bridgewater (2014) Jared Goff (2016) Baker Mayfield (2018) Sam Darnold (2018) - HARD TO RANK; WAS A BUST EARLY BUT LOOKS LIKE A LONG-TERM STARTER GOING FORWARD. Kyler Murray (2019) Tua Tagovailoa (2020) - UNTIL HIS NEXT CONCUSSION ANYWAY. Trevor Lawrence (2021) - LONG-TERM STARTER, BUT CERTAINLY NOT ELITE. C.J. Stroud (2023) - TRENDING/COULD BE BETTER. Caleb Williams (2024) - TRENDING/COULD BE BETTER. Drake Maye (2024) - TRENDING/COULD BE BETTER. Bo Nix (2024) - TRENDING/COULD BE BETTER. TOO EARLY TO TELL: Michael Penix Jr. (2024) J.J. McCarthy (2024) Cam Ward (2025) Jaxson Dart (2025) SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES: Deshaun Watson (2017) - LOOKED ELITE FOR A MINUTE, THEN WENT TO HELL ON AND OFF THE FIELD. Justin Fields (2021) - TOUGH TO RANK. COULD STILL BE A LONG-TERM STARTER, BUT LIKELY NEVER ELITE.
