  1. I wouldn't go that far. Poor man's Kuechly at best. He's not the athlete that Luke was. I still wouldn't mind drafting him, though.
  2. The closer we get to the draft the more I wonder if we'd consider trading up with the Pats if Abdul Carter falls to #4. They need OL badly and our pick at #8 is in the perfect spot to get one of the top tackles. It'd probably take our 2nd rounder to get it done, which wouldn't be ideal but to be able to land Carter it might be worth it, especially if we can trade our 3rd + one or both of our 4ths to move back up into the 2nd later on. Something like this...
  3. This is true. In general you want to get at least the following out of every draft for it to be considered a good class: - 1 quality (above average to elite) starter - 1 solid starter - 1 solid backup - 1 contributor/backup/special teamer Obviously it depends on how many picks you have, but we checked all four boxes in 2021 with Horn, Chuba, Tremble and Christensen. There are exceptions, of course. I'd argue that 2011 was a great draft for us despite missing on every player we drafted except Cam because the one guy we did hit on became our franchise QB (the same will likely hold true of 2023 if Bryce ends up becoming that guy long-term) but that is a good general gauge for how good any particular draft class is.
  4. Tried something different with this one. Traded up with the Patriots; I gave up our 2nd + 4th + next year's 3rd for #4 + their 6th rounder. I also traded back up into the 2nd for a WR.
  5. The more I watch of them the more I like both Iowa State WRs as 2nd round options for us.
  6. I'd honestly take him in the 2nd, but in the 3rd he's a no-brainer.
  7. Traded up in the 2nd and 3rd to fill some needs.
  8. We finally have one of the better OLs in the league. I'm not going to worry too much about how we pay for it.
  9. It's not all that serious. It's a good size deal but not as big as people are making it out to be. And I'm relatively sure there were other teams in the mix. Wharton wasn't the only DT with his age/production to be paid big money.
  10. He'll be a starter; it'll be Robinson who rotates in. But what I'm saying is it would have been the same with Milton Williams, who also struggles against the run. The goal was clearly to add a pass rusher at that position; they're counting on Derrick and Bobby Brown to provide the run D up front. So it was either sign Wharton to a top-20 contract or sign Williams to a top-5 contract; either way I feel like the plan was always to rotate A'Shawn Robinson in with the new guy being the starter.
  11. I don't think that's the plan, TBH. I think you'll continue to see A'Shawn Robinson rotated in. Wharton will play essentially the same role (though probably not as well) Milton Williams would have; neither are great against the run so that was always going to be an issue.
  12. I'd probably have also paid Williams what he wanted, but I'm also not sure I agree with their take on the players we did get. Wharton is a good player, so is Bobby Brown. Not as crazy about Patrick Jones at that price, but it's a different position. I think we would have signed Brown regardless because he's a NT whereas Williams is a pass rusher.
  13. Ideally he won't be the starter, but we could do worse.
  14. I'd rather have Higgins if it's a choice between the two.
  15. There's going to be when people click on this thread title
  16. Do you ever have anything good to say about anything the Panthers do?
  17. I'm not sure what the point of adding Kupp would be. We basically already have him on the roster with Thielen. If he were 5 years younger, absolutely. But I'm not sure it's the move now.
