Bryce Young is the worst QB in Panthers History
ForJimmy replied to dep's topic in Carolina Panthers
When the running game gets clamped to the tune of 19 yards averaging 1.2 a carry it’s a different story. Those teams aren’t winning unless there is some elite defense or passing offense bailing out the running game. That’s all I’m saying about this particular game. Our passing offense was actually above our average which I know is bad. The running game needs a pulse for us to win against an average to below average team. -

He knows his stuff. I think he picks some of these arguments out of boredom or just to debate. I can understand him wanting to move on from Bryce. I’m for it if that’s what we decide. He just wasn’t on the top of my list of issues this week. Last week is a different story. -

They just allowed 145 rushing yards to the Dolphins last week. If you are averaging 1.2 rushing yards per attempt you aren’t winning that game unless you have a top passing offense. Running game is our strength on offense right? Their time of possession was over 15 minutes more because they could run the ball and we couldn’t. There has to be an ounce of balance for most offenses to work. I know you know this. We beat them by 3 at home two weeks ago because we were able to have some balance. That balance didn’t exist today because of the running game. -

It’s just a shtick now for some. I’m not really a Bryce fan and honestly his best chance of success is probably a change of scenery at this point but I’m also looking at this team as a whole and seeing plenty of issues. Today QB played well enough. Running game didn’t exist, we missed a FG (granted it was in the 50s), officiating was terrible, and play calling was pretty bad. I kind of want DC to hire an OC to handle play calling. -

19 rushing yards. If it was flipped like against Seattle then yeah QB is front and center. When our 2 1000 yard RBs are averaging in the 1s for yards per carry behind our run blocking heavy expensive OL then I’m looking at the running game. Honestly officiating was some of the worst I’ve seen and I hate blaming that as well. -

There has to be some sort of balance. 19 rushing yards is going to be an uphill battle for any offense much less one centered around a rookie WR. I’m not saying Bryce had a great game but he wasn’t the main cause for concern this game. -

It’s becoming some sort of sickness. Bryce wasn’t spectacular but he was far from the biggest problem today. -
That’s fair. He needs some guys to succeed at the next level to help with recruiting no doubt. It doesn’t seem to slow down OSU or Bama though.

He is a college QB tutor. As you stated he has produced much in the NFL.
-
I think damn near every coach has a bad record for producing QBs because so few QBs are successful. Drake Maye looks legit, how was UNC before with Mack Brown? Howell hasn’t done anything, I don’t know if he was responsible for Mitch or if he came afterwards but that was a bust. Air Raid Texas Tech produced Mahomes and not much else. Allen was out in Wyoming, Burrow is the only LSU one and he was coach O, Lamar was Louisville with no one else. Riley might be the only coach with a defect track record with Hurts, Murray, Baker, and now Caleb. It’s why you draft the player not the school/coach.
-
Is this a thing? I know he runs a college offense but how many have even been drafted high enough to bust? The only high pick QB I can think of from him is Dart who looks decent but it’s way too early?
-
Mahomes, Rodgers, Purdy, Baker, Caleb Williams etc are all under 6'3". I'm not sure it's even outliers at this point.
-
I agree. I think our two outside guys look better this year because teams just pick on the middle of the field as well. It's like when our pass defense looked ok last year because teams just ran on us.

You guys have had some bad injury luck. Kraft (who was arguably the top TE), Parsons, now Love…

Surprise! Wait… Surprise Again! Kon Looks Really Good!

Wait until they actually develop some chemistry. Could be a fun team to watch if they stay healthy. -
If we are trading for an edge, I’d prefer Thibs, younger and cheaper to acquire. His sacks are down but his win rate is up. He is basically pressuring the QB into sacks for Burns. We would get the 5th year and then have to pay him. Thibs, Scourton, and DB on the line would be solid. You would have Princely, Pat Jones, and Gipson rotating in on the edges for some depth/fresh legs. Throw in a nice young ILB like Syles or Allen or a FA and our defense would be so much better.

Pretty sure it's wanted ended BC's season a couple years ago...

So is this a Bryce issue, a Canales issue, or a non issue?

We need a consistent TE too. -

He was on the 50 yard line when he throws it. It lands right in the end zone. The pass went 50 yards in the air. I get it counted for 40 since he was about 10 yards back but he still threw it 50 and it wasn’t a Hail Mary launch pass. It landed in a perfect spot. That’s half a football field. Arm strength isn’t elite but it really isn’t a weakness. People are use to Cam’s cannon plus they see Bryce’s size and just assume. -
Yeah I’ll pass on that then.

Probably sign a mid tier vet. I’ve seen some mention Pierce or Wandale. Roll with TMac, Coker, vet, Horn, and see if XL can work his way back up the depth chart. Brycen would be a good one to keep if he is super cheap. XL was always a raw prospect so he needs time but he also needs to fit our timeline.

Yards a game works better over a longer period of time as well. Averages always work out over the long run. The smaller the sample size the easier it is to skew. Also opponents matter more when the size is small. Player 1 lights up 2 bad defenses in 4 starts vs Player 2 playing 10 games vs multiple defenses. It hard to make it apples to apples how it currently sits. Remember during Bryce’s little run last year how annoyed you were when people were pulling Bryce’s starts from week 9 on vs the whole season.

I think you duplicated Shough's Rams game on his Bucs one. He was 13/20 144 with an INT but had 55 rushing TDs and a 2 scores. They won this game with him playing like that. It's hard to listen to him carrying a team of scrubs when you see data like that...
-
Yeah Moore is definitely going to be a problem. I remember he was the favorite for our job at one point in time.
-
Saints were smart with Shough too letting him play at the best part of their schedule. LAR was rough but then it was CAR, ATL, MIA, TB, NYJ, with TEN, and ATL left. I'll give it to them, those are some ideal defenses to let your rookie get comfortable on (LAR excluded).
