Who said trade 3 years worth of firsts? I'm ok with moving up to get a guy our staff in confident in. It doesn't have to be up to pick one, but I'm not against using a future pick to grab our guy if he is there to be had. Hell the Bills did it with Allen and the Chiefs did with Mahomes. Neither were "elite" prospects. If you are trading up for a QB that is available then he isn't an "elite" prospect because those go 1/2 and aren't available via trade. However, there are several with elite traits that our staff can develop.

It's the same thing over and over. People don't realize these elite prospects like Luck/Lawrence/Burrow are never going to be available via trade because teams never trade out of those picks. We are going to have to take a gamble on one at some point. We have hired a strong staff that can really deep dive into these prospects to see if there is one they can develop or not. I'm with you though, I am ready to take a chance on a prospect possibly even trading up if needed.

The real question is would you trade next year’s 3rd for Patrick Mahomes?

Jets or Raiders are the two that make the most sense.

It just depends on what we are looking for. Carr will want to be our starting QB for the next five plus years and be paid accordingly. Brissett would just be playing until our rookie and ready and then he would be a capable backup who can step in and win some games if needed. Brissett would also bring some familiarity with Reich’s offense.

Young is far from a sure thing as well. He is a great QB, but his size would make him a huge outlier in the realm of successful QBs. There is no Burrow/Luck/Lawrence in this draft so no need to ditch a young QB flashing potential for another question mark. Especially not when they have so many other needs…

He doesn’t know what he is talking about. “Lamar needs talent around him” yeah his offense is so stacked with a TE and no other weapons. Who is the best WR Lamar’s played with? Keep in mind this guy thinks Icky is a bust and we should have drafted Aqeel Glass last year who is backup on the USFL now…

The “smart” gamble would be an opinion that only our staff is going to weigh in on. One first round pick for Player B at 9 who they believe they can develop, signing Carr for X amount against the salary cap, or trading up and losing X amount of assets for Player A. One isn’t really “gambling smart” vs the others IMO. It’s easier to bounce back if you miss on Player B at 9 than the others, but there is probably more risk. Just weighing out positives vs negatives.

Trading up to 3 makes a lot of sense. Hopefully the Colts jump to 1 and take “that Alabama guy” the Texans fall in love with Levis and we get Stroud at 3. AR would be the backup option…

And the billionaires that built them had someone gamble big in their family to make it big. Bezos, Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs all gambled big on themselves. We could play this game all day…

Drafting a QB is going to be a gamble unless we have the worst record or a rare year there is a Burrow/Luck/Lawrence sitting there. Cam was a gamble, Mahomes was a gamble, Allen was a gamble. If you are confident in your staff and what they can do for that particular player you take the gamble. One first round pick isn’t going to kill our franchise. If it hits we have a chance to compete for 10 plus years.

That’s the issue. The people that are freaking out over him possibly being the pick likely watched very little of his play last year. They just read the stats and freak out. AR would actually sit back and go through progressions and throw some nice 2nd/3rd option passes to some transfer junior college WR running the wrong route and dropping his pass. Florida’s offense was a poo show. The professionals are doing a much deeper dive which is why he will go in the 1st this year despite his stars.

Yeah our top 2 FAs should be Bozeman, then Gesicki. Maybe a depth vet WR and defense from there. A legit TE receiving threat will help our red zone and take some pressure off DJ Moore.

Carr is the best short term option. If we are wanting to be a consistent playoff team I think drafting and developing your QB is the way to do it.
