It’s not a terribke idea. I still think people underestimate the QB position. A great OL and average QB can make you the Colts missing the playoffs. A great QB and terrible OL can get you to the Super Bowl like the Bengals…

Didn’t realize his was today. Thanks @BurnNChinn!

Chris Simms top QB is Matt Corral and why you should listen

I don’t know how you could possibly know that. -

It’s not a deep class and doesn’t have a top guy, but as he states here, there is still first round talent. -

He has a strong arm with a quick release, commands the huddle, and carved up some top SEC defenses. He definitely needs to put on some weight and his attitude might be an issue in the NFL. -

And was high on Mond… -
It’s considered bad because there us no true number one and a large drop off after 5/6. Once you get past Howell/Ridder there isn’t much NFL caliber guys period. I just don’t think this really affects us where we are picking. It’s a bad year to be picking number 1 or if you are wanting to gamble on a later option QB. Pickett, Willis, and Corral are considered first round talent and Howell/Ridder I’ve seen on the cusp of 1st/2nd.

Willis’s overall college completion % is higher than Russ Wilson’s was.

There isn’t going to be a phenom prospect available at 6. If there is one in the next draft chances are we won’t be picking first (especially if we draft LT and solidify our OL) so we would have to trade a lot of picks to get him. Only use one first round pick at 6 and take a chance on one that has potential to be great but needs some work. This is how Allen worked out for the Bills, Mahomes for the Chiefs, Lamar for the Ravens etc…

Either that or he can’t read a defense. Considering he had similar issues at USC and NYJ, I would lean towards not being able to read a defense. Either way it’s shown you can’t trust him when a play breaks down. It won’t always be a perfect pocket in today’s NFL and QBs need to be able to improvise when a play breaks down. Sam is going to poo the bed when this happens…

Wasn’t last year the opposite and you wanted us to go OL? Slater would have been better than Horn and possibly Fields/Wilson/Mac. You have to look at needs and value of players where you are picking. I believe our staff has already said it’s not as weak of a QB class as it’s being made out to be.
-
Normally I’d agree, but he actually played worse when he had time to go through reads. His best games were early when he was checking down to CMC quickly and only needing one read. In the rare instances he had a pocket he would make the worst decisions.

People that are wanting Stroud next year also need to realize the chances of us picking 1 (probably where he will go) are very slim. If Young plays great he might go 2. If we draft an elite LT and pick up a FA QB we might not even have a top 10 pick. Pick 6 seems like a good spot to draft one this year.

This class is just missing the Andrew Luck/Trevor Lawrence number one guy. It really doesn’t matter because we aren’t picking 1st. Burrow was a one year wonder with small hands and limited athletic ability, Herbert has the arm but was a bit of s letdown at Oregon, Murray was too small to play QB all these guys have weaknesses and are gambles.
-
Yeah in week 9 after leading the league in interceptions. He just can’t read defenses, lacks the QB brain. I think he is a nice guy, just shouldn’t be a starter in the NFL.
-
You can only have so many chances to flash some potential. The Jets gave up on him and we are after one year. No one else was really interested unless you believe that Niners rumor. I just don’t think that every NFL team’s staff is wrong about Darnold. I watched him make some terrible decisions with actual time to throw the ball…
-
It’s funny how I thought we had a terrible situation months ago, but with our OL coach, McAdoo, and our FA pickups I feel we are a solid place for a rookie QB. Not top tier, but no longer the bottom.
-
This class has no clear cut top QB which is good because we wouldn’t be able to get him picking 6. I would imagine our top ones are ranked pretty close together. If we have one we love take him at 6 (assuming he is there), if it’s even then you can look at trading down.

From a throwing standpoint Cam had 8 TDs and 10 INTs. He was taking goal line carries away from the RB, which is fine as that was their offense. The problem with being that one dimensional is when they had to pass it got ugly… Teams are desperate for QBs now and if he still had his ability they would be offering him contracts. He looked no better than Sam when he was throwing fit us last year.

We are so drafting a QB…

He was the undisputed starter for a stable NFL franchise. I know he didn’t have a ton of weapons, but they had a solid OL and coaching staff. It’s similar to Rivers/Wentz with the Colts. It was a weird year with Covid, but that applies to everyone. He really couldn’t stay healthy his past 3 years with Carolina before he went to NE. Cam is my favorite player, but he is no longer a full time starting QB in this league. He wouldn’t still be a FA if he was. I’m for bringing him in as a mentor/Hill type position for cheap, but that’s about it. I hope he remains associated with Carolina when he retires which might be sooner vs later.

This made him rise up my draft board.
