If we draft a QB, I want Carson Strong
ForJimmy replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
Surely someone would pick him up late and even let him sit a year to help his knee. Risk/reward has to be off the charts… -

Can Jimmy G take our team to the playoffs? His Niners team had a top defense and one of the top offensive minded head coaches, I'm not sure he gets us there. I'm thinking 7-10 8-9 with Jimmy G as our starter and that's assuming we get a top LT to protect his blind side at 6. -

That's a very valid point that I never really thought of. The QBs last year were playing with a stacked team against lesser talent for most of their college career, so no wonder they struggled their rookie years. This year's class would have many games with against equal or greater talent with maybe the exception of Cinncinnati. -

Oh yeah I agree. We don't need an injured Jimmy G taking up cap space and draft picks to acquire him just to have us finish with a couple more wins and miss out on another QB next draft. -

Are you asking me? I'm not for us signing him or Baker. I think we need to just draft one like most teams do. I'd prefer a trade down and draft Corral/Howell and acquire some additional picks. -

They are 0/2 doing it Rhule's way. I don't see why trying a 3rd time is going to change anything. The only way it makes any sense to me remotely is if they get Jimmy G for cheap AND draft a rookie to sit behind him for a portion of the season which is still wasting cap space/draft picks.... -

It's nearly impossible to tell since none of these rookie have even taken a snap in the NFL. We know that Jimmy G and Baker aren't the answer though as their teams are willing to part with them. -

Yeah I read Strong was the only QB we are NOT bringing in for a visit... -
Which might be what the Giants are doing. I get what you are saying though. However BC has only his rookie year's couple games to go off of. Daniel Jones has a much larger body of work...

If we go OT at 6 then Elf becomes depth probably. I think they try to slide BC at LG which I'm not entirely sold on. He seems like more of a tackle than a guard to me.

I wouldn’t go that far. He is the leader of his team and seems to have the respect of the locker room. Practiced his craft and had a huge jump this year from the previous working with Kiffin (I don’t think Manziel had work ethic. Seemed like a party boy). I also like that Corral has been open about going through depression and stopping drinking. That shows a lot of maturity to me. He is fiery on the field, but so are Brady and Rodgers. You want a little of that fiery attitude from your QB. We all know Cam had it.
-
Yeah one would hope they are leaning on him for this decision/assessment.
-
I’d be interested if we could trade down and acquire him.
-
He just moved to center last year and had success. Before that he was an ok OG. He got a 1 year 2.8 million dollar contract. That’s shows where the market sees him. He should be solid, but that one year protects us in case he fails.

You definitely get a mixture of QBs that won the Super Bowl lately (aside from Brady taking up half of them). Stafford (was a number 1 pick but couldn't elevate his team, needed a loaded team to win in the playoffs like most do), Mahomes (great QB, great coach, surrounded him with talent), Nick Foles... Joe Flaco... Old Manning, and Russ Wilson (who elevated his offense, but had an elite defense/running game). Peyton Manning (aside from Brady) might be the only one who really elevated his team (Colts) and got them a ring eventually... The others were flashes in the pan, or had elite defenses/teams and got one. Mahomes is a rare talent and elevated his team, but they were already a solid team and playoff bound with Andy Reid/Alex Smith.

I already responded to this earlier. The proven players got multi year contacts.

How dangerous is Willis as a runner? What makes him special?
ForJimmy replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree with this. It’s in the best interest for us and for Willis if he goes somewhere else. We need help quickly and would not be the ideal staff/team to develop a QB with his talents. The bias remarks are more directed at posters thinking he will bust simply because he can run too. That is nonsense. -

You claimed Vick wasn’t a good passer. I showed where get got better instantly with a better coach. Then you said, but he didn’t win (referring to the playoffs). My point is that doesn’t mean he wasn’t a good passer. I showed you examples of below average QBs winning in the playoffs (in fact winning the Super Bowl) to show those two things aren’t always related. I’m not sure we can win with Darnold. He just folds so quickly under pressure and has lost the confidence of our staff and some of our players… -

So I can go to the Super Bowl winners (you know the ones that aren't "running qbs") and ask you a similar question. Would you rather have Nick Foles, Joe Flaco, or 38 year old Manning as your QB? If you are just using playoff wins these guys won it all. I'll raise you a Trent Dilfer and a Brad Johnson. My point is TEAMS win in the playoffs. Joe Burrow's defense shut down Mahomes for half a game, but guess who gets the credit for that win? Stafford throws 2 INTs in the Super Bowl, but guess who gets the win? Manning was under 60% completion with 9 TDs and 17 INTs with 2200 passing yards but he beat MVP Cam in the big game... I believe Manning's rating was 8.6 for the Super Bowl. -
I'm excited to see this man in action this season!!
