Dane Brugler Mock Draft 1.0 (from The Athletic)
ForJimmy replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
QBs always have and always will be over drafted. If a guy you like is there you take him. We should have taken Fields last year or Slater like most of this board wanted, but we wanted a CB with a top 10 pick… -

Baylor QB coming up… -
Didn’t Rhule start off as an OL coach in the NFL?
-
Why in the Hell was he not playing over Daley? Daley is always terrible every time he plays. At least MJ, Scott, and Elf have had a few games they were serviceable… After the bye week it better be BC, Erving, Elf, Brown, and Moton.

Cam Newton should be done as a starting QB in this league
ForJimmy replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m for letting him finish this year. We kind of owe it to him. If he bounces back, next year is on the table. I mean he looked great one week ago, so let’s see how he does after the bye.- 109 replies

The Dolphins OL is actually worse than ours. I’ll take losing to good teams while we are “rebuilding” (which is total bull poo, we are trying to win now), but getting blown out by bottom tier teams and lack of discipline by our players all falls back to our coaches. Our team has way too much talent to get crushed like that by Miami.
-
Yeah he has done well as a OC with Dak, a top OL, Elliott, Cooper, Lamb, Gallup, and Pollard. If we are going with a OC that can coach a loaded offense, at least Leftwich got a ring with his. If Tomlin gets let go, it’s a no brained to me..

Glad to see you posting again and I hope Lady Cowboy Fan has a speedy recovery from her surgeries.

No ones talking about our next game....

Nah that has only happened against stronger lines like the Cowboys and WFT. I think we will do much better against Miami. Plus Snow has probably chewed them up and spit them out this week. -

If Cam holds up this would make sense. Then look for someone like KJ Jefferson out of Arkansas the following year (I’m getting an early draft crush on him).
-
And did what he was suppose to do. I’m not saying he is the answer at LT, but he proved he is a capable starter. He needs more playing time to develop and get better. I could see him as more of a LG, but either way he should be starting. Erving (when healthy), BC, Elf (at C), and Moton should be 4/5 starters with Scott, MJ, and Brown battling it out for the RG spot. No Daley and no Miller starting anymore, both are vets who are well below average.

The Dolphins have a week OL. Our defense should bounce back well against them. Plus another week of Cam learning the offense, I think we go into our bye week 6-6. -
Cam was focused and did more than his part. He has to be talking about defensive players. DJax? Shaq?
-
I think his decision making is considered a weakness, but when I see him play he is hiking the ball and rolling away from defenders immediately so I’m sure that’s a huge part of it. Last year he had a 68% completion rate with 30 TDs and 7 INTs, this year he dropped to 63.5% with 22 TDs and 8 INTs so far.

But hey @WOW!!has had some solid counterpoints and I like seeing his optimism. We definitely could use more if that around here! I’m sure a big part of us fans getting frustrated is the early success we had in both of Rhule’s first 2 seasons. I’m not all in on getting rid of him, but the QB position needs some clarity because that can quickly become a coach killer. Overall his drafts are good but his offseason FAs are to be desired IMO. The whole Darnold extension was the biggest head scratcher.
-
Yeah the throwing stupid money at Teddy, extending Robbie, overpaying injury prone below average OL in Erving and Elf, going all in on Darnold and EXTENDING him before the season, passing on young prospects like Fields when Tepper was pushing for him, and now having to come running back to Cam to try to save the season. We have money tied up in Teddy this season and $18.5 in Darnold next. Not only did Darnold cause us to pass on Mac and Fields, but we could use his money to extend Reddick or sign a solid OG, MLB, or DT this offseason. His best offseason move was Reddick, but he has way more misses than hits.

We clearly aren’t the second best defense in the league. We had a nice first half schedule, but teams like the Cowboys and now WFT with solid lines can power right through us, and average team like the Vikings lite us up. We are talented enough to dominate bad teams, but struggle against good ones. When we get into the tougher part of our schedule our ranking with drop down some notches. We have talent and a good defense, but not elite yet. When our staff was “surprised” by how quickly our defense progressed we were 3-0 against Wilson, Winston, and Mills. 2 rookies making their first starts and Winston missing half his staff from Covid (which was still probably our most impressive performance defensively).

Faster than anyone expected? They spent an entire draft on it and signed FAs like Reddick, and Jones to one year deals to fill in what few missing pieces were left (sounds pretty “win now” to me). So we have Horn 1st rounder, Chinn 2nd, DJax 2nd, Brown 1st, Shaq 1st, Burns 1st, YGM 2nd, then proceed to sign Jones (solid vet), Reddick (great vet), to one year deals and Bouye (solid vet) to a two year deal. Of course they are going to be great and then we go and trade for Henderson and Gilmore? They are still weak against the run because they are designed for speed. All of this while ignoring the offensive line and banking on Darnold.
-
The problem is Rhule is all over the place. We kept hearing about a 6 year process to rebuild and preaching patience before the first year. Then they go out and pick up Teddy, and trade for Darnold because they are wanting a quicker turnaround. They trade away draft picks for Darnold and pass over Fields and Jones. They then trade for Gilmore after starting 3-0 and start talking about the playoffs. These are all signs of a “win now” team. If he had drafted a QB in the previous two drafts and possibly acquired more draft capital vs trading it away, I would be much more satisfied watching a young signal caller develop as the team gets better. Even bringing in Cam (which I’m glad we did) is a win now move. So the rebuild argument is starting to make less sense to me.
