A Reminder That It's Not 2022. It's A Whole New Season and League.
ForJimmy replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
I understand we looked like the worst team in the league during our first preseason game. The main reason I am not concerned YET is the biggest issue from Saturday (our offensive line) has already been league tested and proven last year with plenty of potential for growth. All 5 starters (yeah Corbet may miss a little time) and our OL coach all played solid last year and are now proven/tested in the league. It's not crazy to think they are going to get their issues corrected and get back to the form they had towards the last half of the year last year. Our other big issue (Corral) is probably not playing this year if he even makes the team. Our defense looked vanilla like many other preseason defenses and was missing several starters with others barely playing so I am not really concerned there. The good news is Bryce looked calm and comfortable even with our OL struggles. Once we correct those issues (and it's easy to believe we will) Young should look pretty good. Let's see what Campen and his OL do to look better Friday and hopefully it will be a more enjoyable game. -
Teddy put up those numbers with Rhule as his coach never practicing red zone offense and a terrible OL. It’s not unreasonable to expect similar from Young. 69% (which seems high) 3800 yards 15 TDs and 11 INTs is what he put up. If Young does that it’s not some crazy record breaking rookie season.

We brought in a lot of players and some of our current ones (Burns and Brown) are better built for a 3-4. So we are looking at our front 7 with our best 2 players being better fit for the 3-4. Depth looks to be an issue, but I think the biggest hurdle is just players learning their new assignments.

How about the Dolphins? Should their fans be concerned after their bad preseason game?

https://theathletic.com/3976961/2022/12/07/panthers-ikem-ekwonu-rookie-left-tackle/ The man went 594 consecutive snaps without allowing a sack his rookie year as our LT and you think he is overrated? We had a solid young OL last year (I think we were ranked 11) and now we are returning all starters with our OL coach. It may take a minute to learn the new schemes but calling our potential franchise LT overrated seems odd??

Buechele came in there and rallied his team. Is there a QB controversy in KC now??????
-
That’s about where I’m at. If Evero can get this defense in the top 10 plus our OL stays healthy and picks up where they left off last season we have enough to be in the race IMO.

The whole point is the first preseason game doesn’t dictate the whole season. The Super Bowl favorites starters were just outmatched and no one cares nor should they. If it’s a continued theme over the next few preseason games then yeah that could be a red flag.
-
I could see that. I’m just not overly concerned about our OL judging by the players and coach. They are already proven in this league. Sure they could be rusty, or overheated, or running some vanillla offense but they should be fine throughout the regular season. The main issue to me is we weren’t able to make good judgements on new players/depth players on offense because the OL poo the bed.

McDaniels is probably on the hit seat after his team’s first preseason game performance.
-
They’ll probably have a losing record judging by this performance…
-
I get we wanted to see something, but people are getting ready to write off the season of this one preseason game. The biggest issue yesterday was the OL playing like poo. Well we literally have the same starters and OL coach as last year who have shown us they are a solid unit. That part logically should get corrected and play better during the regular season.
-
Exactly. His goal was to try to keep it close playing very conservative ball and hoped we could still a win. Even Wilks knew it was a bad team. People need to rewatch that Bengals game.
-
Chiefs are getting dominated. I wonder if their fans are as upset as some Huddlers over a preseason performance?
-
Yeah people need to stop looking at the record and look at the team performances. When we played good teams like the Bengals we got embarrassed. If we could run we were good if not we were screwed. Last year’s team would have gotten embarrassed if we snuck into the playoffs. Each season is a different schedule with different teams with different rosters.

I thought Kamara was suspended?

Mays should be the RG until Corbet is ready. I would like for Jensen to get some reps over Jordan. Jensen should at least get better with reps, Jordan is a vet that is terrible.
-
The Huddle did not listen to this advice…
-
Looks like the Dolphins only put up 3 points with 3 INTs and allowed 5 sacks just like we did playing the Falcons defense. We all know McDaniels will have their offense clicking by week 1.

Positive from Today: Bryce Young's Talent in One Play
ForJimmy replied to Saca312's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was surprised that’s all it took to get the top pick in the draft. If there is a QB our staff loves (like Young) you make that trade 10/10 times. -
How are you feeling after the first preseason game?
ForJimmy replied to Icege's topic in Carolina Panthers
It sounds like Campen is very alarmed about the OL play and going to be busting his ass to correct it. The defense didn’t have several starters playing and the others barely played so I’m not as concerned there. If this trends continues throughout preseason then yes sound the alarms, but I’m not panicking after the team looked bad during their first preseason game. Let’s see how our staff corrects these issues starting with who is playing RG this Friday. -
For those that seem to have forgot last season…
-
He will and we have one despite what we saw on the field today. All starters played well most of last year and are back. Campen is about to take practice up a notch for this crew.
-
I want to see how he looks behind an OL that is actually blocking.
