In his Tuesday press conference, Panthers interim head coach Steve Wilks said he’d provide an update on Baker Mayfield with the injury report that’s set to come out on Wednesday. But there’s been some reporting on Carolina’s starting quarterback and his high ankle sprain. Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Mayfield got some more information to confirm there was no major damage to his ankle. Mayfield does not need surgery and as of now will not be placed on injured reserve, which means he could be back within four weeks. Pelissero adds that Mayfield will push to be back on the field as soon as possible, but a realistic timeline is anywhere from two-to-six weeks. P.J. Walker is the only healthy quarterback currently on the Panthers’ roster, which puts him in line to start. Carolina also has Jacob Eason on its practice squad. While Sam Darnold is on injured reserve and eligible to return, former head coach Matt Rhule said last week that Darnold will need some more time to get healthy from his high ankle sprain. Mayfield has completed 55 percent of his passes for 962 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions so far this season. https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/10/11/report-baker-mayfield-will-avoid-ir-but-still-set-to-miss-time-with-high-ankle-sprain/

Tepper will want a more sure bet, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him try to make a big splash like before but in the NFL coaching tree. It won’t be with a 7 year contract….but he will still throw around big money to get who he feels that he can give another rebuild to. Wilks would deserve serious consideration if he turns the team around, but realistically I don’t see it happening.

Just how deeply disliked was Matt Rhule?

Who felt good after hearing this the first time: -
Steve Smith just mentioned he had players reach out to him asking what they should do as far as a career with the team. Listen here live: https://wfnz.com/listen-live/ I wonder what some of the players on the team really think. Also any post from former players?? Post what you have got here. General discussion wanted on what you think the players are saying/feeling about the move. We did have some players defending Rhule recently, and you wonder if they have faith in the direction of the team. Smitty compared it to the Clausen year when we didn’t have a lot of hope.

Wilks was tired of the college garbage and is getting ready to blitz every other play. I expect us to be hot garbage the rest of the year but I will at least be intrigued to see how he does moving forward.

You could trade anyone from this team and I would not be heartbroken over it.

It’s at least something to be happy about. He is emerging as an impact player on a team with very few.

It does not matter who he picks at OC, who he picks at QB, the results are the same. It’s Matt Rhule….and he is trying to micromanage people to fit his system. The system sucks, and he has had more than enough time/ability to select who he wants on the team. When you get worse results in year three it’s obviously to everyone involved who the issue is

Great video. I really enjoyed how much Steve opened up. I’m surprised he did an interview like this being that he still works for the team. -
So this is happening and no Huddle post????
