I like it! Outside of a K and CB, I've been choosing some of the same positions, around the same rounds too. I continue to trade back as we need more selections this draft...minimum of 9. Also, I don't think we have a 7th rounder. That was a conditional pick and the conditions were not met to my knowledge.

I've been running simulations, but honestly I don't like where we are picking right now in the first round. At #3, I almost have to take Young/Stroud because one of the two (sometimes both) are available. If we win a few more games, I will start posting my simulations. I have a plan, but picking so high right now is messing it up. Worst case scenario and we still are top 5 pick by the end of the season, I'll either trade back or take one of top 3 QBs.

How strong? Like Baylor/Temple strong?
-
The '72 Dolphins pop another bottle of champagne.
-
Can you Phil me in? My plan and has been for a while--trade back for Mayer, THEN get the QB. Another trade back in the mid-rounds should get us around 10 picks. We need every last one of them.

A big arm is lures people in all the time. I admit, I almost got suckered in as well. I don't care if you can throw a football through a brick wall, if you can't read a defense, make poor decisions and fail to throw with anticipation into windows...all the arm strength in the world doesn't matter.

I don't, but everyone around here assumes they would be an instant success. I have my doubts about both. Honestly, I hope we are out of range of both so it's a moot point. I want to move back (no lower than about pick #12) and accumulate more picks.

Yep, completely locked, there's going to be like zero moment out of this bunch.
-
Do we have a 7th or not? Some sites say yes, and others no. I think the confusion is from the Andre Smith trade to the Bills. It was conditional 7th rounder and I don't think the condition was met, therefore the pick is void for us and the Bills kept it. Our original 7th rounder was part of the Shenault trade.

I got the same. We were right at the threshold and now we put Baker back in. I hope they are just kicking the tires and want to see Darnold eventually too. it wouldn't shock me for Mayfield to get 'dinged' and Darnold to get some meaningful snaps. Not necessarily this game, but down the road. Hopefully PJ's 'high ankle sprain' is mild--I'm almost certain it is.

It depends on his market. I think we let him test the market first and match/slightly better it. I doubt he gets offered starting gig anywhere.
-
Bingo and why Stroud CERTAINLY and likely Young will be off the board by our pick after 2-4 more wins. So we are going to hang our hat on Levis/Hooker and Corral? Nah, won't happen. So if you loath Baker and/or Sam, sorry, people might want to prepare themselves for one of them to be back. I can see the preseason roster looking something like this (NOT a depth chart): Baker/Sam, Corral, PJ and rookie QB.
-
As unquestioned starters? Agree 100%. As depth on a cheap 1-2 year deal? I wouldn't mind the better of the two. That's why we have to see which one is worth keeping, we aren't keeping both. You seem to have a lot of faith in Corral and some rookie QB who likely will not be Young nor Stroud.
-
Strategic sprain. We need to see if Mayfield and Darnold offer anything more now that we have an good OL. Can't bank on the 'right' QB falls into our lap on draft day. Contingency plans my man.
-
He got cut. Edit: Saw someone else recently posted this too.
-
Baker had just dropped below the 70% snap threshold too, crap!
-
Ok, I'll admit it, I've been running simulations already. The most recent ones have actually turned out REALLY good. I wanted to post my latest and greatest one but realized we haven't created a thread yet for the 2023 draft. Mid-November is about the right time to fire this puppy up. Let's get it!!!
-
And if we miss out on a top QB? That was the premise of the previous posts. You snag a Tanner Mckee just because he the next QB available when you have a TE1 or DE2/3 staring you in the face? I have a feeling we will be drafting exactly where we have been the past few seasons #6-#8. Wilks is not tanking for Tepper. Tepper is not dumb enough to ask him to either with the ongoing lawsuit Wilks is part of.
-
There is one TE in this draft and right now he's projected to go as high as #10. We could use another edge rusher too. YGM is a JAG and we need a bookend to Burns. After the first round, we could also use a couple LBs, a WR or two, a safety, center DT, another swing tackle or guard. Oh yeah, and a QB. The shopping list is long and we don't have the money to go splurge in the FA market. We have to draft most of our depth this year and why a trade back...really two, is needed.
-
This is the reason if we fall outside the top five picks I want to move down. We can get more picks and fill in other holes that aren't as boom or bust. We still draft a QB, just not with our first pick.
-
Trade back, take Mayer and then the very next pick the top QB on the board. This has been my plan all along if we pick outside the top 5.

It's hard to believe Shaq is atop the chart as the highest paid players next season on the team (as of now). Moore and Moton barely edge him out. Crazy that an OLB in a 4-3 defense is that big of a cap drain for this organization. I get 3-4 OLBs getting that kind of dough, but not in this scheme. Shaq is not an edge threat.
-
How bad does PJ need to play to be removed as starter?
45catfan replied to AlphabetsEnd's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just crunched the numbers and as now if Baker doesn't take anymore snaps (factoring in per game offensive snap average) he's below 70% at 68% for the season. PJ and, if need be, Darnold from here on out. Yes, I value a 4th that much more than a 5th rounder, especially the top of the 4th. -
We need to extend Luvu this offseaon. Beyond next year we have Brandon Smith as our LB aside form fringe guys. I think Shaq has hit his ceiling, that said for what he's getting paid and probably expects to get paid on his next deal, it's time to move on.
-
I have LB as a top target, looking at round 3. If we move back and pick up another selection or two, I wouldn't mind double dipping. We are thin there and it's time for Shaq to move on once his current deal expires. Dude eats up a ton of cap space for an above average (not elite) LB. I think we extend Luvu again. Brandon Smith is a huge question mark. The rest of the guys are filler-type players, let's be honest here. We save $2.5 against the cap for Wilson in his last year on his deal. I'm not sure we don't sign/draft another safety and move Chinn down in the box permanently. Right now for next year we have Shaq, Luvu and Smith with some STs/prctice roster types (anticipating Wilson being a cap casualty). That's not going to cut it.
