"Multiple Teams have reached out to the Jets about Darnold"
45catfan replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed, if whomever is at #2 (Jets or a team they trade with) drafts a player other than a QB, we almost assuredly to get one of the 'big 4' QBs without having to move up from #8. If two QBs are off the board after pick #2, we are going to likely have to move up a couple spots to ensure us of getting our QB. -
A trade including Teddy Bridgewater may cost us!
45catfan replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
A huge difference? No, but I wouldn't sneeze at $5M in cap savings. That's a decent FA on a one-year 'prove it' deal. -
The crazy thing is the Patriots are definitely in the QB market, but many mocks have them passing on QB with their first round pick. I get it, the likely choice will be Mac Jones (with the big 4 gone) and if Bilichick isn't in love with kid, he's not going to draft purely off need. NE isn't a team to jump way up in the draft either, so moving way up probably won't happen. I think Denver is giving Lock another look to be honest. The only team that worries me about aggressively jumping ahead of us are the 49ers. Their front office has proven to not be timid when it comes to pulling the trigger on big decisions.

"Multiple Teams have reached out to the Jets about Darnold"

You are getting things a bit twisted. Please show me where I've said Darnold is bad. What I have said is Darnold has a limited ceiling. I will stick to that point. Have I watched him much as a Jet? No, but I did look over some of his film from college during his draft year. I remember him as a solid prospect, but far from a can't miss prospect. I had the same conclusion then as I do now. Can players have a limited ceiling and still be good players? Absolutely, but it's a classic point of 'what you see is what you get'. Darnold could still be a very good starter in this League, but taking it to the next level is the part I don't see happening, UNLESS, he goes to a team nearly complete just lacking their guy under center. Case in point, if Brees retires in New Orleans and the Saints were to trade for him, I could see him thriving in that scenario. -

Offseason QB bluster. This year it might be slightly higher than 0% something like .001, but historically speaking, your right, it has never happened before. -

Eh, not being funny, but I doubt any trade includes a 'swap' for Teddy. It would be cheaper to keep him as the backup or cut him after June 1. -

Shoot, in that case I would be all for making a trade with the Jets! That's going way down the 'what ifs' rabbit hole though. Even Allen struggling with a Jets team, he still would have more potential for a salvage project than Darnold. That's not even a knock on Darnold as much as how much the raw potential with Allen was evident to me. -

Purely in talent alone, contracts and draft compensation aside. I thought that was implied with every Teddy post on here being about how much he sucks, but I guess I could have be more specific. -

Yeah, and I remember the knock on Allen is the same as the guy in my avatar...underdeveloped, small school prospect that's not ready to be a day 1 starter in this League. So while the Jets are looking to possibly move on from Darnold, Allen is just hitting his stride. Granted, Allen had some growing pains for a couple of years, but the Bills have there franchise QB while the Jets are at a crossroads with Darnold. D1 competition, NFL ready, blah, blah, blah. The draft is about projection at it's core. I saw back then that Allen would be the better QB of those two even if he didn't play a tons of game in a power 5 conference. Chew on that Trey Lance doubters.... -
How much each NFL team paid players not on their team in 2020
45catfan replied to WS Pantherfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nothing surprising at all, dead cap figures are projected out for several years and saw this implosion coming. I knew it was extremely bad and probably one of the worst in the League, so to see it actually IS the worst comes as shocking as someone saying water is wet. -
I honestly think all of those guys stays put. It's the offseason for 30 teams (after tonight 32). The biggest clicks and news makers in the NFL at this time are HC/front offices changes and QB changes...toss in a couple diva players distractions. All this drama will amount to little. The most likely to move is Darnold and I say that only happens if the Jets get a more than generous offer. If the offers are not greatly in the Jets favor, they stick with Darnold taking either Sewell to protect him or trade back with a QB needy team. Tua, Goff and Wentz are not going anywhere. Tua has too much potential and Goff's contract is ginormous not to mention he was just traded makes little sense. Wentz has proven to be mentally and physical fragile while having HUGE albatross for a contract.

I get aggressive, but come on, at least let the aggressiveness make sense. Darnold will be an upgrade from Teddy, but I think his ceiling is a 6.5-7 out of 10. Repeat, that is his CEILING if he actually reaches it. Stick to the plan, draft a QB. -
Tim Weaver & Panthers Wire ranks 8 QB trade targets (sans Watson)
45catfan replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Dude writes garbage for clicks. For every one article Weaver writes worth reading containing actual news, there's 10 more like this of random thoughts of throwing mud on the wall. If I want a good laugh, I usually will read one of his or David Newton's articles. Talk about being in poor company. -
I've been here on and off for a VERY long time.

Scott Fitterer's 1st official transaction
45catfan replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Jordan Reed? He ain't overtaking Kittle in SF and would give him a chance to start again. If, BIG IF, he passes his physical with flying colors. Dude was nasty before a rash of injuries derailed his career in Washington. -
Dude looked horrible at the Senior Bowl. Purely a road grader. His lateral movement is non-existent.

Here's the thing that most people are overlooking about a TE. Who is usually the #1 security blanket for a rookie QB? That's right, so we better damned well make sure we give our rookie QB a warm, fuzzy woobie! This dude from Seattle will be competing with Thomas as the #2 TE if Fits plays his cards right. Fits, don't pull a Hurn...wait, that was completely uncalled for. My bad. -

Well, If we would have addressed this over the past 3-4 drafts like I wanted, we wouldn't be in this predicament, lol. I wanted a TE of consequence since the 2017 draft. Even when we drafted Thomas in the 4th round, I had my doubts about him. Unfortunately this isn't the draft to fix it now. Get an established veteran TE in here on a 2-3 year deal and draft his heir apparent on day 2 next year (2022) to groom. -

Still need a veteran. -
A lot of the Senior Bowl guys have day 3 or UDFA grades. I'm all for trading back in the 5th to accumulate more picks. If we get to 10 picks, I'll be happy. That way we can get a guy for every positions I feel we need. Yes, I have mocked it out! More or less in order: QB, OT, CB, C, DT, ILB, DE, CB, S, OG
-
Some people are freaks. Oh, you meant...

The Browns got an extra 1st, 2nd and 3rd. That was too pricey. The 1st was a given, but the second is where the overkill is especially with the 3rd tacked on. The 1st and 3rd should have worked.

Matt Ryan and Jones coming back so that take a qb off the list
45catfan replied to Panthers316's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sure there is. Smoke and mirrors and you guys are taking hook, line and sinker. Teams are talking up QBs to hopefully get some team--see Panthers-- to trade up in order to get the QB that certainly will not be there. I'm talking Jets, Falcons, Eagles and Lions. At TWO of them take a QB, and I'm hedging just one. I've said it once and I'll say it again, QB4 will ABSOLUTELY be there at #8. Whether it is Fields or Lance, I'm not sure, but one of the two.
