You don’t know where they had him ranked tho. They may have had a first round grade on Brooks and shocked they could get him mid second. If you trust your scouting rankings there’d be no reason to wait for next years class when your guys is right there. just playing devils advocate, I wanted a CB at that pick personally

I don't know all the nuances so this is me kind of guessing, but I believe if you are a veteran you are not subject to waivers, you can sign wherever you want. My guess is we had an agreement with him, we will cut him to do roster magic or whatever is needed to do all of our claims with the understanding he would not sign with another team and we would bring him back today to the 53. You scratch our back, we scratch yours kind of thing. I imagine this allowed us to do something like keep a player we didn't want to cut and risk losing on the roster long enough or something like that
