That was more a D'Angelo Hall problem than it was 89s lol. Whatever their beef was, Smitty seemed over it after he busted his ass several times. I always got the impression that Hall was the one that the bitter feelings lingered for... and I know at some point before that they considered each other friends... Smitty also had beef with Fred Smoot and they recently publicly squashed that too, so I'm sure they'll make amends if they haven't already. Personally, I love the hire. I was a big fan of his in college and really wanted us to find a way to get him coming out of college, but then he ended up in ATL, so of course I was forced to hate him, but had no problem with him after he left there... and may I say, he was really entertaining, informative, and just overall excellent as an analyst. One of the best former players I've seen as an in-studio guy. And from what I remember, he always seemed to have an affinity for us in his analysis, which I found interesting. He's gonna be an excellent coach and a great addition. Frank is showing his ass right now.

To be fair in regards to the injury argument against Lamar - a bulk of the games he missed were this past season with the knee issue, and from what I was hearing, some believed he was fully healed a long time ago but purposely sat out because they hadn't extended him, and I can't blame him.

I haven't read it or seen it anywhere else across the numerous threads, but was listening to ESPN radio while taking the kids to school, and they shared that Peter King said the Ravens are very likely to use the non-exclusive franchise tag on Lamar, meaning it would only require the contract plus 2 first-round picks. That's also very different than the "windfall of picks" stuff we heard about previously. It seems a more realistic possibility than the "windfall" talk. Still, giving up the picks plus the mega contract is scary for a team trying to build out its roster, but does that change how you feel about the possibility of Jackson?

Damn. Not a fan of trading up to 1 because of the perceived cost, but if that's all it takes, then why not?

The more i watched him, the smaller he looked and played. I never really was interested, even when the hype train was full force 2 years ago, and I was completely uninterested the more I watched last season. I really hope our staff feel similarly because I just don't have a good feeling about how his game translates to the pros, and its not just his height.

That was not my intent at all... just wanted to clarify bc I know it's hard to interpret intentions or tone through text. I'd also like to add, I completely agree with what we know of Lamar as a leader and his character. 100% awesome dude. But I think, despite your insider sources, that you are understanding Carr's leadership and character. How he handled the Ruggs situation and all the other garbage that happened there in 2021 damn near brought a tear to my eye. It was admirable and I can't imagine someone handling that turbulent period any better. I already liked him, but it made me respect him that much more... but I also understand how being outspoken about your religion can sometimes rub people the wrong way in a locker room, and I suspect maybe that's where the insider source you have may have an issue?

I really, really like Lamar, but I'm not trading 3 1sts for any QB at this point. Watson looked about as sure of a get as there was and a hands-down, no debate franchise QB. Browns traded the farm for him, his team got them to guarantee his entire contract despite the fact that by the time he would be eligible to play he wouldve had sat out almost 2 full years and then by the time he hit the field he looked like absolute poo. And i wanted Watson (dependent on the cost to trade)... whew. It's my opinion now, when it comes to QBs, I'd much rather sign one and/or draft one than trade for one, especially a QB that is also wanting a new contract in addition to the cost of the trade. It's just too much to give up for Lamar in assets and money. I completely understand teams like the Rams last year or the Chiefs or Eagles this year, trading assets for positions to fit around a QB and team that's already in place... but when you invest that much solely in the position of QB, you often just aren't capable of plugging holes in other places for several years. I think Lamar is the better overall player and is more dynamic, but Carr is also a hell of a player and will come at a lot less of a price in regards to assets and money and allows us to continue to address other positions that need to be addressed (rookie QB, TE, WR, Edge).

Yeah, but I just don't know what all tou can take from last season for him... McDaniels is a poo coach, the organization is dysfunctional, and he has how many years of good tape before last season's debacle? I don't think a QB just falls off a cliff like that at 32 barring injury.

Yup, and iirc, off the top of my head, I think Smith was only the starter in KC for a year or two prior to them drafting Mahomes and then started Mahomes' rookie season and then was traded. And all due respect to Smith, but I think Carr is a much more complete QB and a lot more dynamic than Smith was. It would be the ideal scenario, imo.

Idk where he's projected, but I watched a piece from Smitty on Zay, and I'm all in on him. Dude sold me. He is going to be a serious problem in the league as he has so many translatable skills that just pop.

My thoughts as well. I really like AR's potential, so I'm leaning towards sitting st 9 and keeping our picks and supplementing the rest of the roster with them, but in Reich I trust.

I mean it's cheaper than trading up, but I don't like it at all. It's one thing to sign a Carr and then draft a rookie, wherever that may be... It's another to trade that first pick you would draft a rookie with and trade for a still unproven third-year QB. I like what Fields showed last year, but we still don't know what he is, exactly. What I don't think he is right now, is worthy of the 9th overall pick. I'd rather sign a vet and draft a rookie.

I've brought it up before, but when Fitt was in Seattle, they had signed Matt Flynn to that big contract to come in and be the starter and ended up drafting and starting Russell Wilson. So, I think it's fine to do both, planning for the future but living in the present.
