They all had a shot at getting in. All of them. But there is no reason to debate you. You see things one way, I see things another.

Dude, ALL the NFCS teams were in Playoff contention. No one had a winning record. Stop. Had he gone 10-2 ... THAT is a resurrection.

I'd want Vrabel easily.

Since the advent of Twitter, journalism has died ... or at the very least allowed journalism to be seen as a fraud instantaneously. Every one of these Twitter guys has a "source" that they never reveal, every one wants to break some big news, every one wants Follows and clicks, every one more than likely does ZERO fact checking, etc. The worst part is, young folk today think Twitter is reliable! The way misinformation spreads is insane. Again, I can admit that newspapers or nightly news back in the day could have just as easily reported rumor or "fake news". But with Twitter ... anyone can do it now, not someone who has a degree in the business, etc. Our very on Verge has "sources". But it's not like she has the phone number of somebody working for the NFL who is giving her, and her alone, inside info. Twitter is an abomination ... but we like it because it's 24/7.

Going 6-6 isn't a resurrection. It's keeping a damn from bursting.
-
You know who else had their team in Playoffs talk? Arthur Smith, Dennis Allen, and Todd Bowles.
-
Let's look at it this way ... 1. Former player in college and the AFL 2. HC of Savannah State (5-6) 3. Left coaching college to join the Bears staff (fired) 4. Joined Rivera in SD (they were in Chi together) as DB coach 5. Joined Rivera in Carolina 6. HAD CAM NEWTON 7. Left Carolina to be the head coach of Arizona (fired) 8. Joined the Browns staff 9. Left the NFL to coach at Missouri 10. Left college again to come back and coach with Rhule (went 6-6 as IHC)

My Bad Idea - Dorsey + Richardson + Wilks
Brooklyn 3.0 replied to CPcavedweller's topic in Carolina Panthers

Ok, fair. But Wilks failed in Arizona. Failed. He went .500 here. That's average. Most players like their coach and back them ... so the guys saying they like Wilks means very little. So what is it about Wilks that makes you go ... "oh hell yeah, this guy can build a dynasty"?
-
The old NFL is almost dead. You need to move on from ground and pound, run run run football. It's over. And the Bills are not doing Carolina ball. If anyone is, it's Tennessee. Buffalo is a passing team. Allen and Diggs are scary good.
-
Pretty sure Bucs fans are ok with it, seeing as how they have won the SB twice. Rams fans as well, as they too have seen their team go all the way. I think what you want is to be the Patriots. A dynasty. Well ... we don't have a Belichick, and don't have a Brady. I mean, Belichick came from the Browns and is 70. Just as much as you feel Sean would just jet, he could just as easily start a dynasty ... if we got the QB. Kafka and Steichen could do it too, but they don't have the experience that Payton does. Sean is the better gamble to win now AND build a dynasty. Hell, Steichen and Kafka could be total busts as HC. We know Payton can go all the way ... because he has. The best thing ever would be to bring a Steichen or a Kafka INTO a dynasty ... but lol, we can't even get back to back winning seasons. Sean will at least do that.

Go on record now before the hire is made Re: Sean Payton
Brooklyn 3.0 replied to GOAT's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yesterday? It was like 11 years ago. I've moved three times, been married, had a kid, changed jobs, covered myself in tattoos, have lost and added pets to the family, and lived through a pandemic since then. -
As one of the board's Brady Apologists, or at least someone who likes the GOAT and doesn't throw a hissy fit when I see him ... no, I don't want Brady. Age has finally slowed his skill. Not even Payton could work enough magic to give him ring #8.

Go on record now before the hire is made Re: Sean Payton
Brooklyn 3.0 replied to GOAT's topic in Carolina Panthers
I find it pretty damn funny someone would leave their fandom over a coach ... WHEN YEAR AFTER YEAR AFTER YEAR all we do is bash the coach. Jesus. Rhule was hated! I mean HATED. So you'll hate Sean too. -
Here's the thing though, if Payton is worth it ... it won't matter who the Aints draft with our pick. We'll have the better end of the trade.

For those who ARE interested in Sean Payton...
Brooklyn 3.0 replied to t96's topic in Carolina Panthers
I wasn't trying to belittle Cam, which is your and my usual debate lol. I was trying to point out to a handful of people that coaching with an elite QB still requires a good coach. By their logic, Payton only won it all due to having Brees. But if they don't think Cam is top tier, that means Ron did it without any "Brees magic" so to speak. I was just pushing their buttons. Of course Ron isn't better than they are. -

Brooklyn 3.0 replied to t96's topic in Carolina Panthers
So if Payton was only successful because of Brees ... and Belichick was only successful because of Brady ... what does that say about Ron Rivera? If you believe Cam was just as elite as the other two, then coach shouldn't barely even matter since most everyone says Rivera sucks. But if you believe Cam was a tier below the other two, that means Riverboat is a better coach than Bill and Sean lol. So, which is it? -
Ok, one final thought for the "no one has won two with a second team" crowd ... McVay - Hasn't had a chance yet Bruce Arians - Hasn't had a chance yet Andy Reid - Hasn't had a chance yet Bill Belichick - Hasn't had a chance yet Doug Pederson - Currently in the Playoffs Gary Kubiak - Hasn't had a chance yet Pete Carroll - Hasn't had a chance yet John Harbaugh - Hasn't had a chance yet Tom Coughlin - Hasn't had a chance yet Mike McCarthy - Currently in the Playoffs Sean Payton - Hasn't has a chance yet Mike Tomlin - Hasn't had a chance yet Tony Dungy - Hasn't had a chance yet Bill Cowher - Hasn't had a chance yet Jon Gruden - FAILED Brian Billick - Hasn't had a chance yet Dick Vermeil - FAILED Mike Shanahan - FAILED Mike Holmgren - FAILED Barry Switzer - Never had a second chance George Seifert - FAILED Jimmy Johnson - FAILED Joe Gibbs - Never had a second chance Bill Parcells - FAILED Bill Walsh - Never had a second chance Mike Ditka - FAILED Tom Flores - FAILED Chuck Noll - Never had a second chance Tom Landry - Never had a second chance John Madden - Never had a second chance Don Shula - Never had a second chance Don McCafferty - FAILED Hank Stram - FAILED Weeb Ewbank - Never had a second chance Vince Lombardi - FAILED So the question is ... would you have considered giving guys like Vince Lombardi, Hank Stram, Don McCafferty, Tom Flores, Mike Ditka, Bill Parcells, Jimmy Johnson, Mike Holmgren, Mike Shanahan, Dick Vermeil, and Jon Gruden a chance to coach your team? Or said ... be gone, retread! Yes, I left George Seifert out of that last paragraph lol.
-
To be fair though, Mr. Scot ... anyone we bring in comes here with what we have too. So it boils down to who do you think is the better at schemes: Payton, Johnson, or Steichen?
-
Here's an interesting thought for you ... The statement is that no coach has ever won a SB with two different teams. But how many have won a SB while they've coached for their 2nd or 3rd team? It's sort of like the statement, but in reverse. Ok, a coach won it all, then he went on to another team and couldn't do it again. Well ... some coaches couldn't get to the big dance, changed teams, and then they won. See what I'm saying? Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it won't, like via some sort of evil wizard spell put on the scenario. Because "it" isn't a scientific principal so to speak. It's BS. And I'll say it a third time: how many head coaches have made it to a SB? How many HC have won? Now, how many HC have ever been in the NFL? If you don't like Payton, fine. But don't use this spooky voodoo theory as the reason not to bring in an offensive-minded coach ... which 90% of us want. If we can't get Johnson or Iggles Guy ... may as well bring in a proven dude.

Petition to Change BOA Back to Natural Grass
Brooklyn 3.0 replied to The Huddler's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ok, I ... someone who doesn't think turf is pure evil, will sign your petition ... if you can find me articles covering every team that doesn't play on grass that has their players begging for grass. Good luck in your search. -
If Wilks had made adjustments in the Bucs game
Brooklyn 3.0 replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
Why does the Huddle love to harp on the past all the time? He didn't make adjustments, we didn't win the division, we're not in the Playoffs. Who cares about WHAT IF. We have tomorrow to talk about. -
And now he's dating a model and sees his kids often and doesn't have to deal with marital BS.

I mean, the game is over but holy CRAP, Mr. Kicker.
