Josh Norris believes WR 3 is a big need this offseason

Hopefully Fitterer has brought some of that Lockett / Moore / Metcalf magic with him. -
Josh Norris believes WR 3 is a big need this offseason

He'd have to lose some muscle mass, but he could absolutely be a deep threat at WR. He runs away from teams. -
It's not smoke and mirrors for any of those teams. Any team that's sending their GM and Head Coach to Fargo is investing a lot of resources (think how much both guys make per hour + travel costs). It's a legitimate trip - you HAVE to take a closer look at a prospect like Lance. Personally I think he's too much of a risk - had a great season, has a lot of the elite physical attributes you look for, but hasn't played in a year and has very limited experience throwing the football.

Chris Simms “no way the panthers draft Lance at 8”

Honestly he's the toughest son of a bitch ever for finishing that game. -

I love the internet. What does an ex-NFL QB know about QB play? Nothing, when it doesn't fit with your narrative.- 199 replies

Teddy Bridgewater likely on the outs in Carolina
OldhamA replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
You're not in the minority that Minshew has proven he can play in the NFL. The problem you have is that he's proven he can play in the NFL. Jacksonville have him on a very cheap contract. They're not going to let him walk unless you throw significant Draft capital their way. -
Winston isn't super athletic. The last 4 teams playing this year all had pocket passers. Mahomes and Rodgers can buy some time with their legs, but neither is a runner (Rodgers used to be, but he's 37 now). Games are still won and lost by throws made from the pocket. All this talk of 'let's draft an athletic QB so they can dodge unblocked defenders' is baffling to me. Fields / Lance / Lawrence are all very athletic guys - but if you ask them to consistently buy time for themselves in the NFL they're going to fail. People hate on Jones - and at this point it's just blind bias. They don't actually look into what he achieved at Alabama - they just explain it away by the supporting cast. Speaking of that supporting cast - they all think he's much better than Tua, and have said so publicly. At the end of the day, Jones is probably going to be a very consistent starting NFL QB. There's a lot of value to that - but then we're on a blog where people wouldn't cut off their left arm for 10 years of prime Matt Ryan, so....

Report: 49ers called Panthers about Teddy Bridgewater
OldhamA replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
You can't cut him without a viable replacement. Even if we take a first round QB odds are we're going to start Bridgewater next year. We'd have to sign an established vet to move on from him. -
I'm still a little salty Chinn didn't get DROY!
OldhamA replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Then damn, the Panthers sure were relying on a 205lb rookie - what with them aligning him to make all the tackles. -
Hopefully he's not as fragile as Romo.

Dan Snyder...what should they do with him
OldhamA replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sorry, what's he actually meant to have done? -
The Alabama game is where I changed my tune about Pitts - he was Mossing 1st / 2nd round CBs. He's never going to be an elite all-round TE, but he's a weapon in the passing game. Njoku's development as a blocker whilst at Cleveland has been remarkable - I don't see why Pitts can't do the same. When you're that good as a pass catcher it's just about doing enough ala Olsen, rather than bodying your guy. I'd need to fully invest time into scouting him to be on board with taking him at #8 (for example), but if you think he's a mismatch player then you don't hesitate. We already have one in McCaffrey. Pair him with Pitts and the opposition LB / S are going to have nightmares before every Panthers game - or they're assigning a CB to him and your WRs get to play against lesser players. THAT to me is what the Draft is about - not rolling the dice on the 4th best QB on the board.
-
Honestly, 'positional value' is how absolute superstars slip to the dominant teams as the poor teams chase that QB / LT / CB. My approach to the Draft has always been to take the best guy available - FA is where you fill holes. There's nothing more painful than watching your middling LT / QB run out for you while that stud LB / TE / RB (etc) who was taken with the next pick tears up the league.

NBC's Peter King wont be suprised if Mac Jones goes ahead of Lance
OldhamA replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
And he looked significantly worse in the one game he played last year. I shudder to think what he's fuged up mechanically working out on his own all year. -
Where do we stand on the compensatory pick front? Only Samuel would net us one I'd imagine?

Anybody remember when Colin Jones "asked" for his release?
OldhamA replied to JABANOG's topic in Carolina Panthers
There's a lot of value in being a great STs guy - albeit less than there used to be as the NFL continues to try to neuter that aspect of the game. -
Good luck to the Saints if they manage to find the Draft capital / Cap Space to pull this off. Personally I'm very much of the opinion that I don't care what our divisional rivals do until we get our own house in order. We massively over performed last year considering the talent on the roster. That's an exciting place to be as it means our coaching staff is top notch. However, we HAVE to capitalise on this by follow up last year's excellent Draft with another very good one this year. We're at least another year away from credibly competing for the Division title (I don't care about being in contention for the now bloated Playoffs - that's not how you consistently win) and possibly turning this sinking ship around.

Olsen joining Davis in return and retirement
OldhamA replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
The problem is we didn't surround them with enough talent. There's a reason we've never had back-to-back winning seasons despite being able to roll out a lineup like that for 5+ years. They can't do it all on their own. -

The problem you have with all these QBs is that they're potentially great IF. Jones and Lawrence are the only ones who are really NFL ready and you know what you're getting right now. Fields is raw - that Ohio St system didn't do him any favours. Wilson needs to rework his footwork. Lance needs a boat load of work across the board. So if you're an NFL GM you've got to really trust your QB Coach to take a few of these guys. There's no guarantee you can change someone's footwork / ability to process information at this stage of their career. Josh Allen is the poster boy, but I think he's an outlier.
