Not to be THAT guy, but you've just compared Mac Jones to a 'better' Andy Dalton. Do you really have a 10 year NFL starter, 3 time Pro Bowler with over 30k yards and nearly a 2:1 TD:INT ratio as your 49th best prospect? That just seems nuts.

The problems with Wilson are his footwork and his level of competition. I question some of his decision making too - but don't question his arm / ball placement / accuracy. He's a guy you'd love to sit for a year if you take him - physically he can do it all.
-
It depends if he can play there. As I understand it he's played RT all of his career (both here and in College). He'd have to completely re-learn his footwork. I'm not on board with Franchise Tagging him though. I think he's good and absolutely a RT you'd love to keep around, but he's not exceptional.

REPORT: Mac Jones not high on Panthers QB draft board
OldhamA replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Based on what I've seen and the scouting reports I've read he's my favourite QB in this Draft (closely followed by Wilson [his footwork is a mess]). He fits really well into what our offence does (short - intermediate throws stretching the field laterally with the occasional shot play to keep the defence honest) - but obviously because Lawrence / Wilson / Fields / Lance are much more athletic than him, the actual QB basics that Jones does exceptionally well are being overlooked. If he pans out (which is always difficult to predict), I think worse case scenario is that he's Kirk Cousins. I'd take that. -
I don't know if you understand what the word profit means. You don't pay your backup QB $20m to sit on the bench.
-
I'd absolutely always carry three QBs - it's the most important position in sports. You have your starter, a backup who can step in should the starter go down and a developmental guy. That backup would usually be a vet, but could be the aforementioned developmental guy that's.... well, developed. You still churn that third spot every other year with a Draft pick to find the next guy (at either starter or backup).

He'll follow his wife to Chicago.

This is a hell of a long con if we're not interested in any QB and we're just trying to force a team to trade up ahead of us so a non-QB falls to us at #8. We had Detroit fooled.

I wouldn't even offer them a half eaten ham sandwich for Goff.

It's not in our interest for people to know we've inquired.

Jesus Christ, these NFL Front Offices are leakier than a sieve.

Todd McShay mocks us to trade up with Miami to get Trey Lance
OldhamA replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's the problem - it's a massive gamble. He looks good, but not sensational on the film we have of him - which will be 18 months ago by the time he's drafted. He's very raw, with promise. Absolutely not opposed to drafting him. Terrified of drafting him with #8 overall. My jaw would hit the floor if we traded future first round picks to draft him. He's nothing like Mahomes - doesn't have the arm, the playmaking ability, the innate understanding of the offence etc etc. People talk about how you can't compare players to Brady - fine, I guess. Mahomes is that same freak 'one in a million' player too. Not quite sure what the NCAA comment was in reference to. -
What's Kyle Allen's role then? They have Smith and Allen under contract, no? Are they going to cut Smith and run with Heinicke / Allen?!

Todd McShay mocks us to trade up with Miami to get Trey Lance
OldhamA replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
I really don't get it with Lance. As I said, I was curious about him after his 2019 season, but the tape doesn't blow you away. Why didn't he transfer to a college that was playing football in 2020? I'm sure the NCAA would have waived the need to sit out. -
I'm way past the point now with Brady where I respect him as the best QB of all time, but I'm hoping Father Time catches up with him and an angry DT drops him on his head.

Todd McShay mocks us to trade up with Miami to get Trey Lance

It's not a foolproof formula - although Herbert and Hurt ticked all seven boxes last year. I don't think any QB ticks all those boxes this year. I think Wilson and Lawrence would be closest, if they graduated (obvs neither is a Senior). -

Be a three-year starter Be a senior in college Graduate from college Start 30 games Win 23 games Post a 2-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio Complete at least 60 percent of passes thrown Source -

I wouldn't trade for either, but if the cost for Watson is three firsts+ and the cost for Lance is two firsts and a second it's a no brainer. Take the proven commodity. -

I was interested in Lance, then he missed the entire season. He'd quite frankly be off my Draft board until the second round - he's too much of an unknown commodity. -
If a QB isn’t there at 8... Slater is your pick
OldhamA replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
After Lawrence they're all second tier "shot in the the dark" QBs. -
That's the problem with the Watson stuff. He wanted a say in the coaching staff. The flood gates are open now.

I love how Brady isn't in your Top 4 QBs. Dude has won SEVEN Super Bowls. SEVEN.

Ranking Eight Potential QB Trade Targets for Panthers
OldhamA replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
Bingo. He's under team control for two more years on a very favourable contract and you KNOW he can start in the NFL. You'd have to blow them away with an offer. -
Chinn hit the rookie wall right at the end of the season - he had a poor game against Washington. I questioned whether he was carrying an injury as he just looked 'off'. He's an absolute tone setter though and is a corner piece of this defence - to stand out THAT much as a rookie says something. He was sensational at times, the best player on defence.
