It always amazes me people who take every word the coach/gm says in an interview as meaningful or the truth of what their plans are. You are going to get generic coach speak even if it seems like they are saying more. They have no reason or obligation to tell us what their plans are. All that does is hurt their ability to do their actual job.

I definitely agree, I'm just saying it seems easier to find stop gap free agents on the defensive side than the offensive side.
-
I was thinking about this the other day. It seems like you almost always want to build the offense through the draft because there are never many good free agents unless they are past their prime. The only exception may be running backs. Where as with defense you can plug some holes with free agents every year.

Last I remember he was giving a list of the select few teams he would play backup for. That doesnt help his case. Also didnt he recently say he didnt want to play anymore?

All the best teams are built through the draft these days.

Smitty on the 2024 WR Draft Class (w/cliffnotes)
Tr3ach replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
There are reasons opposing secondaries didnt respect our receivers at all. They had no fear of getting beat by any of our receivers and they played like it the entire game. Mingo was part of that. You can say bad qb play and oline play was too obviously, but dbs were never worried about any of our receivers. They never worried about getting beat over the top. They stood flat footed to come play the run, they jumped every single short route because they knew the receivers we have werent good enough to punish them for it. -
Josina Anderson thoughts on the Burns situation

This is the absolute worst option for Panthers long term success. -

Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns

Ive just seen him totally getting taken out of the play 1v1 against a tight end or a chip block too many times. -

I could see Brown more, I'm just not a fan of Legette. I dont want to see a guy being good at contested catches in college. In college i want to see them getting open and creating seperation. Guys who make a lot of contested catches in college really struggle to create any seperation in the nfl. -

He was literally ranked like the #130th receiver as far as getting open last season. -

Hes Dk Metcalf, but 3" shorter, 15lbs lighter, short arms, small hands, and without the top speed. -
I dont think you really need a scapegoat for losing the super bowl in OT. I think thats just an excuse. I think if this was 20 years ago then Wilks would be a great coach. I think hes a good leader of men who in the end plays too old school and struggles at making adjustments. Old school defense just isnt going to work consistently against elite qbs when it counts.
-
Thats if you believe he was fired entirely for the super bowl.
-
I guess the real question is, will he be the first one on the field for practice.
-
I think the fact he came in a decent bit smaller than expected as a receiver that was always making contested in college (aka not creating seperation) to me means his game just isnt going to translate in the NFL. To me everything about him reminds me of Mingo last year except I dont think he will test quite as fast even though neither look fast on tape.
-
I think Legette is going to fall a lot further than people think and I really hope we dont draft him.
-
That was Rhule. Fitterer preferred older unathletic players.
-
I think he is going to test to be more athletic than you think but we will see.
-
Mcconkey or Roman Wilson, also probably Pearsall
-
RAS was definitely Rhule not Fitterer. I at least preferred that over Fitterer whos strategy was drafting old players that were still somehow "raw" that interviewed well and werent very athletic.

Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle are both 5'10 180lbs. The days of having to be 6'4 225 to be an outside receiver are pretty much over. Especially if you have someone who can run a competent scheme on offense.
-
I think youre wrong on Ladd. Im not saying hes going to be a 4.3 guy but i think hes going to be faster than you think. Also if your goal is to get the ball out in 2.7 seconds every time then I will take quick over fast every time. All that said I think Ladd will have a fairly uncommon combination of speed and quickness.

This is a great draft to need a wr. There will definitely be talent at 33. This is a deep deep class with lots of different types of receivers. Wr 7 or 8 doesnt mean much. Good receivers can hit any time. Puka Nacua went in the 5th round last year. What ranking do you think he had going in to the draft?
