Who’s out there that is an upgrade over Chuba and Freeman? I don’t see an obvious one.

Are the 2021 Carolina Panthers worse than the 2020 Carolina Panthers?
Smittymoose replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep, and the improvement will show if Carolina keeps pace rather than fading. So far, we are mathematically on track to win 8 or 9 games, so unless you were expecting more pre-season, the sky is not falling. I am honestly still encouraged by the direction of the team. Even in losses against good Dallas and Minnesota teams, they fought hard late instead of folding. Philly is the one that stings because a good team closes that game out. -

These threads are honestly pathetic. Of course Carolina is better this year. 3-3 is right about where the Panthers should be. Honestly, without McCaffrey, it's a solid achievement. It sucks to go from 3-0 to 3-3, but everyone expected 8-9 wins this year. Carolina is on pace for just that. You just got suckered into believing the team was ahead of schedule from the 3-0 start. -
Sorry, but this is a hilariously dumb take.

is darnold worse than teddy was?
Smittymoose replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not at all. They're polar opposites. Sam has the physical talent, but just isn't a heady player. He creates negative plays with stupidity. Teddy is a smart QB, but lacks in physical talent that kills him in the redzone and in late game situations because he cannot drive the ball. On the whole, I'd probably slightly prefer the upside you get with Darnold, but it's pretty close to a wash. -
fire Brady? lololololol
-
“fire Brady” lmao no chance. But yes, it’s obvious Darnold is not the answer.
-
And he’s a criminal on top of that. No thanks, not interested.
-
Maybe, but I doubt it. He does not look very impressive so far, and I don’t know what you do to improve a guy like that who is a marginal physical talent.
-
Fields sucks. Passing on him was the right move.
-
The truth on Darnold is that he’s a total mental midget. When things are going smoothly, he had enough physical talent to move the ball down the field, but he does not have the mental wherewithal to fight through adversity. It’s apparent now.

The best point he made is that he doesn't give a fug about PFF's garbage grades.

CMC, Horn, and Burris have been out and Shaq played about 3 out of a possible 8 quarters in that same stretch, but yep, it's definitely replacement-level Dan Arnold that we're missing out there.

Jackson is way too small. Bouye or no one making that transition.

Fitterer has "called around" about offensive linemen
Smittymoose replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just gotta hope a really bad team that has no chance of competing like Houston, Jacksonville, Detroit, or Philadelphia will be prepared in the coming weeks to part ways with someone that isn't in their long term plans for some draft capital. There are potential improvements on each of those OLs. -
You’re welcome for teaching you a little bit about football. Sorry you had to get so butt hurt to get there, but at least you learned something.

oh my god what a braindead thing to say

lol, the football knowledge of the average fan is so sad it's laughable. To the extent we even have a true "free safety" and "strong safety" designation, it doesn't mean the free safety is always playing coverage and the strong safety is always in the box for the run game. There are plenty of times when either or both safeties have primary run game responsibilities, especially if you have some sort of stunt call or an unusual blitz. Combine that with the fact that Snow likes to bring pressure from all three levels, and you cannot afford to have a safety that cannot hold up against the interior run game. There's a reason why they are putting 200+ pound guys like Burris and Franklin who are traditionally what people think of as "strong safeties" at that spot next to Chinn. They want two guys who can hold up against the run in there. Here's a good breakdown with easy diagrams of the ways safeties and the nickel have to be able to play primary run fits in the modern 4-2-5: http://www.blitzology.com/2015/11/4-2-5-basics-run-fits-vs-2-back.html

You don't understand how football works.
-
Pretty clear they just thought Horn was the better prospect. And at #8 overall, you should be taking the best guy on your board. End of story. There is no way to predict that months later he'd have the chance to trade for multiple quality starting CBs in the middle of the season.
-
Absolutely not. He's too small. You cannot have him filling primary run gaps. No way.
-
Only one worth trying it with is Bouye. Could be good for both sides. Kareem Jackson extended his career by making that move around age 30. Bouye has the size for it.
-
Fitterer definitely should have predicted that, months later, the Jags would be willing to cut bait on Henderson at a loss and Gilmore and New England would reach an impasse in extension talks. Yeeesh. Love the move. Go ahead and put Horn on the shelf for the year. No reason to rush him back and have him become Greg Olsen 2.0. Make a decision on Gilmore or Jackson for 2022 based on play the rest of this season.

Want to see why you never trust PFF grades?
Smittymoose replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
As I have said many times on here, PFF's grades are complete trash. -
Well, we can say it: PRETENDER
