Panthers sign Jaycee Horn to $100 million dollar deal
CarolinaLivin replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Carolina Panthers kicked off their free agency spending extravaganza by killing two birds with one stone. They inked star defensive back Jaycee Horn to a record-setting four-year, $100 million extension that completely reset the cornerback market across the NFL. Horn's $25 million annual salary makes him the highest-paid corner in the NFL just ahead of his contemporaries Jalen Ramsey ($24.1M), Patrick Surtain ($24M), and Jaire Alexander ($21M). With the extension, Carolina also created $9 million in cap space to spend this offseason. For a team with as many holes as the Panthers, every dollar becomes crucial in their quest to climb out of the league's gutter. https://www.si.com/nfl/panthers/news/how-much-cap-space-do-panthers-save-with-jaycee-horn-mega-deal -
Of the top 25 players on Prisco's list of top free agents, here's a look at the ones who have already signed or been franchise tagged. And keep in mind, free agency hasn't even started. 2. Tee Higgins (Tagged by Bengals) 4. Trey Smith (Tagged by Chiefs) 5. Ronnie Stanley (Re-signs with Ravens) 10. Zack Baun (Re-signs with Eagles) 11. Osa Odighizuwa (Re-signs with Cowboys) 14. Nick Bolton (Re-signs with Chiefs) 20. Alaric Jackson (Re-signs with Rams) 21. Khalil Mack (Re-signs with Chargers) 23. Jamien Sherwood (Re-signs with Jets)

With Khalil Mack heading back to the Chargers (as Shanna noted), that means NINE of Prisco's top 25 free agents have already signed somewhere and FREE AGENCY HASN'T EVEN STARTED. Seven of those nine players were re-signed by their own team and two of the nine (Trey Smith and Tee Higgins) were hit with the franchise tag.

Panthers sign Jaycee Horn to $100 million dollar deal
CarolinaLivin replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Patrick Surtain II and Jaycee Horn were part of the same draft class, but the Panthers are paying more because they waited longer to do their deal (Surtain got an extension last year). And that ladies and gentlemen is why you pay people early. Someone please tell the Bengals and Cowboys. -
Steelers place a 2nd-round restricted tender on RB Jaylen Warren Pittsburgh had an unrestricted free agent RB in Najee Harris, but Warren is a restricted free agent. The Steelers placed a second-round tender on Warren, per Tom Pelissero. This means that if a team were to sign Warren away from Pittsburgh, the signing team would owe the Steelers a second-round pick.

Khalil Mack is remaining in L.A. for at least another year. According to the NFL Network, the Chargers are bringing back the edge on a one-year, $18 million fully guaranteed deal.

Panthers sign Jaycee Horn to $100 million dollar deal
CarolinaLivin replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
At $25 million per year, Horn is now the highest paid corner in NFL history. Cornerback rankings 1. Horn: $25 million per year 2. Jalen Ramsey: $24.1 million 3. Patrick Surtain II: $24 million Those three are in a class of their own. No other corner in the NFL even makes $22 million per year. -
The Bengals have a SIGNING to announce, but it's not Tee Higgins, Ja'Marr Chase or Trey Hendrickson, so it continues to be a depressing week for Bengals fans. We have signed G/OT Cody Ford to a two-year contract extension. -Bengals

Honestly, its a tough call here. But if SEA agrees to this kind of offer… i think i would also lean towards Metcalf. Don’t think the Panthers would do that let alone if SEA would agree to it though.

Also Lockett was released. In case no one has mentioned yet.

REPORT: Panthers interested in WR Darius Slayton
CarolinaLivin replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Would have to be at a lower amount than what was mentioned/projected. That money would be best spent on defense. -
Canales on TE spot from Char observer

Sure there is a lot of depth at DL in the draft but if we take warren at 8, we are almost certainly going to trade up our 2nd after a run on DL in the first and possibly another run in the second. Plus our poor late round drafting makes me worry. I mean I agree that a lot of these guys make our defense better, but I just don't know if we are competent enough to get the late round gems. Last year was a deep draft at WR both at the top and depth, we took XL with likely more talented WR's on the board. Obviously its too early to judge XL, but with what we know right now I just worry about how we navigate through drafts. But I do agree with you somewhat. I wouldn't hate the pick of warren. Just wouldn't love it. I'd have to grade it based off our entire draft rather than just loving our 1st round pick. If that makes sense.
