  1. Maybe... or you could look at it from the standpoint that this is perhaps the first time in franchise history where we are establishing a legitimate receiving corp that can be maintained for hopefully more than a year or two. When this team starts drafting WR's as shrewdly as the Steelers have, then maybe you have a point. Myself, I'm just happy after 20 years we are finally developing (and hopefully sustaining) a receiver corp that we can actually be proud of (beyond the fleeting moment we had Smitty & Moose together)
  2. This fanbase has been so scarred by having WR corps with only 1 or 2 good receivers for so long that we have forgotten that the perennially winning teams in the league typically have at least 4 receivers who can actively perform and contribute...
  3. If Rhule wanted a fullback that bad, we had a pretty good one on the roster in Alex Armah who signed with the Saints for a measly $1.2M... not sure if Armah just wanted out or what, but if he was willing to re-sign here it seems like a mistake to let him go... Overall, I've liked more of Rhule's personnel decisions than not, but there have been some head scratchers like this situation with not having a fullback, not re-signing Efe Obada, and of course the QB carousel...
  4. Well-said about being a Panthers fan, especially the emotional rollercoaster of 2015... I too had zero doubts after we destroyed Arizona in the NFC Championship game... even 6 years later it sucked... only consolation is knowing we didn't blow a 25 point lead I guess...
  5. Good for Jermaine Carter, Jr. It's nice to see the rare later-round Hurney pick develop into a legitimate starter. He certainly has worked his tail off and has had to impress Rivera to make the roster to stay beyond his rookie season, and since last year Rhule (who didn't draft him and had no reason to stick with him). As for Perryman, I'm sure there is frustration building with the coaching staff about him not being out there, but Perryman has been a good player when he's been healthy, and finding an upgrade is not as easy as some people want to make it out to be. I personally think he makes the team, but barring injuries, I don't see him getting a lot of playing time barring injuries. One thing I'm growing to respect from Rhule is that it seems like he makes everyone on the team earn playing time by performance alone, without regard to draft position. There is no deference to a veterans living off the past like former coaches.
  6. His decline was directly related to Teddy not willing to uncork the ball as the season progressed IMO. At some point, management (as well as fans) got tired of seeing Robby & DJ open down the field with Teddy not throwing.
  7. It's embarrassing that we have fans complaining about securing a skill collection core of CMC, Hubbard, DJ, Robby, TMJ, Arnold, & Tremble locked up for the next few years... this is one of the best offensive skill collections we've ever had... what is there to complain about?? Paying a WR who put up 1000+ yards with a noodle arm QB market rate?? GFTOH... People joke about it, but even if Darnold fails, this team is being set up to be a perfect situation for someone like Aaron Rodgers or Deshaun Watson to come into It's refreshing to have competency at GM, but some people still can't be happy unless they're miserable... what a way to go through life...
  8. If you saw any of his reps in practice you would agree with Rhule. CMC just moves at a different speed, and he goes as hard in practice as he would in a game. On top of that, he looks like a freaking LB at this point. He looks like an absolute machine. There are many things to question going into the season. CMC's readiness ain't one of them.
  9. Actually saw where someone mentioned trading Miller for a kicker, which is not a bad idea at all
  10. I'd be shocked if Hoskins or Miller didn't get claimed... consequence of being much deeper on the DLine than we have been in years. Maybe Fitterer can work a trade of Miller for another more traditional LB or OLine development prospect
  11. Hoskins has definitely shown enough to justify a roster spot IMO, and I would take him over Miller. Roy deserves another year IMO. He was developing into a decent run stopper and can play the nose in a 3-4 alignment. We also need some experience on the line beyond rookies. I do believe Hoskins has a higher ceiling than Roy though and would not be surprised to see him pass Roy later on.
  12. Roy, Nixon, and Hoskins make it IMO. I would like to keep Miller but the emergence of Frankie Luvu leaves him on the outside looking in on the numbers game. Think Miller would be a candidate for the PS if he clears waivers (which I doubt). Honestly don't know enough about the other guys to make a determination one way or the other about the PS, but they're not making the roster.
  13. I think that's the plan... CMC, Robby, DJ, and TMJ together over the next few years should be an OCs dream come true. Just need a QB that can deliver the ball to them along with an Oline that can block and that is one of the most lethal offensive skill groups in the league
  14. All good points and I agree with every one of them
  15. Staring down a receiver means you lock onto one guy and bc of that you dont see anyone else... there is no logical progression to what you just said. Sam scanned the area and waited for the longer developing route to open up. How is that the same as "locking onto a receiver?" Sam's had plenty of bad reps I'm sure, but that wasn't one of them
  16. Exactly. And Darnold make a great play by keeping his footwork and base on point and waiting in the pocket until the deeper route that Robby ran came open. He did the opposite of just taking the quick easy checkdown
  17. I have heard nothing that would indicate that either Burns or Haynes are in danger of missing the start of the season. Burns' brother said he was fine. Probably won't play this weekend but he will probably get some reps against Pittsburgh. Haynes may be shut down the rest of the preseason but worst case he should be ready to practice the week leading up to the Jets game so he should be fine too.
  18. He's been in with the 1s a lot throughout camp. He's not the receiver Dan Arnold is, and while I think Tremble has the potential to be a great all-around TE, I think Thomas is going to be the guy in a lot of 2 TE sets to start the season. If Thomas is cut, I think he would still be on a NFL roster this year. Hell, he caught a TD pass in camp today from Darnold running with the 1's. Most teams want to have 3 capable TE's. I think as Panthers fans our WR corps and TE groups have been so weak we forget how a lot of other teams operate. You especially need 3 capable TE's when you aren't going to carry a true FB. Thomas as a 2nd/3rd TE and a ST teams contributor is worth $2M a year IMO.
  19. I think there is a 98% chance Thomas makes the team this year. Thomas has not produced like anyone would have hoped, but he is nowhere as bad as some people want to make him out to be. Tremble is a rookie, and Arnold is certainly not the biggest TE out there- he's already taken some massive hits he didn't seem thrilled about. We need another experienced option. Tremble has worlds of potential, but TE is historically not a position where rookies make that much of an impact. I personally think we see Tremble much more as a H-back than as a traditional TE at least for this season. Ian Thomas is a physical specimen, and the $2M savings or whatever is not worth IMO to give up on a guy who knows the system and has such potential. Especially with 17 games, depth is crucial. And nothing against Colin Thompson, but he's not on a good NFL roster IMO. Maybe I'm surprised, but I just don't see Thomas not being on the 53 man roster Unless they get a good trade offer and/or a guy becomes available that can come in and instantly contribute at TE (which is unlikely), then I don't see any logic in letting him go.
  20. I want to believe in Slye, but there's been just too many misses. I get why coaches love the potential... I was at TC and the ball sounds like a rocket leaving his foot... he really does have elite level power for a kicker But at the end of the day, what does being able to hit a miracle 65 yarder matter when you can't consistently hit the 35-40 yard ones
  21. I wasn't sure what to think of Fitterer at first, but now I'm realizing just how much we were missing with a former sportswriter playing GM. There still are question marks on this team, but in all honesty, it's remarkable how much they have rebuilt and replenished the depth on this team, which went into last off-season as perhaps the worst roster in the NFL
  22. Emerging star for the Bengals and was a major FA signing for Jets.. was having a Brian Burns type camp
  23. Sucks for him and the Jets. He had been the defensive star of their camp, and he was going to present a major challenge Week 1. Hopefully it's not too bad and he can come back after our game
  24. Here's the thing... who do you feel more confident blocking Carl Lawson (who has had a great camp and is along with Burns one of the most underrated edge rushers in the league) with in week 1? And Cam Jordan in week 2? And JPP/Shaq Barrett/Chase Young/Mathew Judon/Jerry Hughes/etc in the following weeks? We've got some really good pass rushers on the schedule this year... Cam Erving ain't the guy that will get it done The only solution IMO is to put Moton at LT or trade for someone else
  25. I had tried to block it out of my mind... wasn't he the one who gave up that ridiculous pass Matt Ryan lofted up at the end of the game and all he had to do was not get beat deep for us to win?
