Official Trade Deadline & Speculation Thread
tukafan21 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Adams wouldn’t be okay with coming here, he wants to win The Raiders also aren’t trading for Burns because they already have Crosby who has had some trade rumors float around with him. The Raiders also aren’t trading their first round pick when it’s clear they need to use it for a QB But, what about a 3 team trade? Burns, TMJ, and Lions 2nd to the Raiders Adams and Crosby to Lions Jameson, Lions 1st to Panthers -

Beyond pissed $13 million guaranteed next year for an average WR who can’t succeed and is no longer wanted in a Sean Payton offense. Says all you need to know, plus he’s a complete diva, not what we need around Bryce. -
Why Trading Burns is the Only Path to Getting a #1 WR in 2024

Yes, in an ideal world, Bryce is the one making the plays. But he's nowhere near that yet and if I'm being frank, I don't think he ever will be, he'll be a great mental game manager who will make some slick plays and passes, but I don't see him ever having the elite arm talent to make the throws the top guys make every week. Plus, with the status of our current offensive line play, we need those type of YAC guys because Bryce needs to get the ball out quick, he doesn't get enough time to let things develop downfield. I also think with the way Bryce likes to extend plays, getting that guy who is working the middle of the field and you can get him the ball in space would be more beneficial than an Evans who's really most effective on those plays by getting behind the safeties, and I don't think Bryce has that deep ball arm to properly take advantage of it. -

I am absolutely desperately looking for a quick fix at WR, at almost any cost other than trading our own future 1st round picks. Like your other post said, sometimes you need patience, and I have always and will always be on board with that as a general rule for building a withstanding franchise. But after what we spent to get Bryce and how he's looked so far, we can't be patient in getting him a #1 weapon for both his own development and for the future of this franchise. I know I'm not the biggest Bryce fan on here, but even his staunches supporters have to admit that he still has a long way to go to prove he has elite potential, and even then, he does have size/strength concerns. If we end up in a Josh Rosen/Kyler Murray situation, we have to take the parachute and draft the new QB. So until we know one way or the other, we can't trade any future first round pick of our own right now, they have to be kept for potential QB replacement or even just an elite top 10 prospect on a rookie contract (maybe even a WR). But we won't know about Bryce until we get him that #1 WR, not giving him one for his first two years in the NFL is a quick way to ruin a QB's career. I am absolutely fine to overpay to get one of those type of guys, it's the most important thing for the future and growth of Bryce, and in turn, our franchise. It's also why I'm so strongly against guys like Jeudy, as I don't think he's that guy and he's a locker room concern with his diva mentality, terribly wrong fit and I'd turn him down at a value and overpay for someone like Higgins, Jameson, or if guys like Aiyuk or Devonta Smith might become available in the offseason because teams can't afford another high priced WR to extend. In regards to Jameson though, I think getting Bryce his top target from his Heisman season would help, especially with his speed, he can change coverages. Then you add a guy like Curtis Samuel to do the short routes over the middle with speed too and we have a great top 4 with those two, Thielen and Mingo. The TLDR version is Bryce's development should be the #1 priority of this franchise and getting him a #1 WR is the first step in doing that. -

Possession was the wrong term to use, you're right. By possession, I more meant that he's just not the player you use to get the ball in their hands and let them make something happen. His big yardage plays are because he's making a downfield catch because of his size and great hands. I'm talking about needing the Diggs, Lamb, Chase, Jefferson, etc, type of player who you can run on a lot of short quick hitters to let them make something happen, in addition to being able to be a downfield threat like Evans. Don't get me wrong, he's one of the best to play and he's still great, but I just don't think he's the type of player we need to get for Bryce right now. And I know we can't just get a player of their caliber, will be someone a step down, but they can be more of that style to their game and it will be what is best for Bryce in addition to Thielen and Mingo. An interesting one could be Aiyuk actually, he only has 1 year left on his deal after this season and there is no way they're going to be able to afford to extending with all their other big contracts, he'll be a cap casualty. I'd love to try and get him in a trade this offseason -

Because Bryce isn't ready (and may never be able to) lead a SB contention team without elite weapons. Maybe he could get there someday, but it's clear the lack of an elite outside WR is limiting his development right now. It's not even just for him to pass to, but because it changes how defenses can run their coverages. Right now they don't need to worry about doubling anyone or keeping safeties over the top, they can get extra pass rushers because of it, all while his WRs outside of Thielen struggle to get open for him to have clean throwing windows. I also think teams winning SB's with just a bunch of good WRs and no great ones, is going to mostly be a thing of the past. Today's NFL is changing and it's a passing league lead by truly elite WR talent. Sure, KC last year didn't have one, but they have Kelce and the only QB in the league who could potentially challenge Brady for GOAT status someday. But look at the other SB teams in recent years... KC played against the Eagles (Brown, Smith), Rams (Kupp) vs Bengals (Chase, Higgins), Bucs (Evans, Godwin, AB) vs KC (Tyreek, Kelce), KC (Tyreek, Kelce) vs 49ers (Deebo, Kittle). -

The 2025 draft? We're not going to get what Bryce needs in the 2nd round of this years draft. Bryce needs a true #1 outside WR by Week 1 of next season, not an early 2nd rounder that we hope can develop into one in a few years, that's what Mingo already is for us. Getting Bryce that #1 is so far and away this teams top priority this offseason, we can't fix everything in one offseason, but everything else takes a backseat to that one and it's not close. -

Higgins (or another #1) on the outside, Mingo on the other side, Thielen in the slot, and a Curtis Samuel type in the other slot as our top 4 and I'm good with that. Take a new TE in the 3rd this year as Hurst isn't it That's a passing game I can work with -

Oh I agree on CMC, I hated it at the time and hate it even more now. And not making the smart trade because we're afraid we'll screw up the draft pick is just a poor way to view it. We just have to hope that we'll make the right draft picks, can't make the wrong calls because we're afraid of making a worse one. -

Seattle just traded a 2nd and 5th for a rest of the year rental in a 29 year old Leonard Williams at DT You really don't think a team who thinks they're a pass rusher away from winning a SB will give up two Firsts that they hope to be picks 32 for a 25 year old Burns?!?! 100% someone will... we'll get 2 firsts or 1 first and 1 high level starter for him. -

They may get there, but they're not there yet. And you don't not target someone because there are younger players, who aren't available in any deal, who might be better than him in a couple years, that's just weird. Also in a few years, some of the guys above Higgins on that list will age out and fall below him, like a Mike Evans lol. Higgins is only 24, turns 25 in January, make him the focal point of an offense and he very well could take a leap and be a Top 10 guy, he has that kind of talent and potential. -

Oh of course, that is 100% predicated on Bryce wanting Jameson. You don't make that trade for a guy with what, 5 NFL catches?, unless Bryce wants him because of their connection in his Heisman season, but I expect he'd want him. -

I think Higgins and Evans are similar but Higgins has a tad more side to side movement to him while Evans is a little bigger/stronger to hold off DBs on jump balls better. Yes, similar and Higgins isn't the fast twitch guy I'd really like to get, but if we can't get one of them, I'd rather overpay to get the younger and maybe slightly shiftier Higgins over Evans. -

The trade I've wanted to make for a while is Burns + TMJ (get him back with Burrow/Chase) for Higgins and a 1st And if they don't want to pay Burns, trade Burns for 2 Firsts (yes, I think we can get that) and trade one of them to the Bengals for Higgins after they tag him. The other trade I'd like to make is Burns + Chark to the Lions for Jameson Williams + First + Fourth -

Fantasy Football #2 is not NFL #2 There are not 32 WRs better than Higgins in the league right now, he's probably in that 15th best WR range. That's a #2 in fantasy but a #1 in real football Not every team can get a Top 10 WR, sure I'd love one, but that seems difficult unless a DK type player becomes available due to contracts. -

Agreed, one of my other posts I said he's more in the mold of a Evans, but 6 years younger and a little more shifty, which is why I'd rather overpay to get him than Evans right now. -

Unless we're getting Marvin Harrison (which wouldn't happen), in no world am I giving up a probably Top 15, potentially Top 10 pick in 2025 along with our top 2024 pick to take a WR in the middle of the first round. From what I've read, this is supposed to be one of the deepest 1st round WR drafts in a long time, should be one worth taking mid to late first if we can get one without giving up our 2025 pick. We still don't know what Bryce is going to be and we're already looking at giving away a top 5 pick in a generational talent QB class, we can't give up the next year's first at this time. -

He's still not a Tyreek, Chase, Jefferson, Diggs, Lamb, Waddle, type of player, that's more of who we need to go after. It's not just the straight line speed, it's the stop/start quick twitch speed that we need to get Bryce. I just think Evans is more of a better version of Thielen/Mingo in terms of style of play, we need to add a different type of player to be that #1 and have versatility in our pass catchers, not a bunch of the same style guys. Higgins isn't quite those guys either, but I think he's closer to it than Evans, and like 6 years younger, which is why I'd rather overpay to get him than go after Evans, it's about overall roster construction. -

Having long plays isn't the same as having the quick twitch speed WR that we need out there. His long plays aren't because he uses his speed to out run a DB in a foot race, it's generally because he's just a GREAT deep ball catcher because of his size and ability to go up and high point the ball before a smaller DB can make a play on it. -

Not saying Odell in particular was the answer to our WR problems (particularly because at his contract number and current ability, he wouldn't have been), but the irony is that's exactly the type of WR we could have used this year. One who wouldn't get frustrated at losing as long as they were getting fed the ball on a constant basis. Because even with a true #1, we weren't going to be winning all too much this year, but they'd have been fed the ball by Bryce from day 1 and thus wouldn't be a locker room or sideline distraction, they'd be happy. -

Good player, wrong style of game for what we need to give Bryce. Thielen and Mingo are both possession WRs, sure Evans is better than them at it, but no point in adding redundancy for the sake of adding a better WR, need to add complimentary players to what we already have. -

tukafan21 replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep, but without a 1st, we can't do that until 2025 and we can't wait that long for Bryce's development. Again, that's where Burns comes in as I fully expect he can get us the two 1sts that come with the tag. If we can't flip the 1st for an established WR, we can use it to take one in this draft and then still have another future 1st in our pocket. -

tukafan21 replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Oh 100%, I wouldn't be against finding a way to trade for him right now, I think his speed is very much what we need for Bryce. But he's not the outside #1 WR that we need. -
Here are the top WR's scheduled to hit the market in 2024 Free Agency Tee Higgins, Mike Evans, Calvin Ridley, Michael Pittman, Marquise Brown, Curtis Samuel, Gabe Davis, Michael Thomas, Darnell Mooney. Of them, right away, Mooney, Thomas, Davis, Samuel can be crossed off as they're not #1's (I'd actually love to get Samuel, but he's not the #1 that we need). Pittman and Ridley won't hit the market, I'm quite confident both will be back with the Colts and Jags respectfully. Evans, while still has game left to him, isn't the type of #1 we need to give Bryce, he's more of a big possession WR, which we have in Thielen. We need a quick twitch, fast, outside #1 and that's just not Evans game at this point in his career. Plus, if he leaves TB, it will be to go to a contender, not just the highest bidder (and that won't be us). Brown MIGHT fit that definition, but personally, I'm just not sold on him being worth it, I think he's more of a good #2, not a #1. That leaves Higgins as the only legitimate target among the players we know will be available this offseason. Odds are he doesn't hit the open market either, he will more than likely be tagged and traded. The other option is for us to go after a player like Tyreek or AJ Brown in recent years, guys who are due a new contract but their team doesn't want to give them one. Players who might fall into that category would be someone like DK or maybe Devonta Smith, but those are total guesses and it could be anyone, nobody expected Tyreek to be moved. If we're going to trade for Higgins or a yet to be known available WR, we'll need either a 1st round pick or an elite player at a different position. That's Burns or our 2025 First, and I'm not trading that 2025 First to pay out a big money contract for a WR, that wouldn't be smart when we could likely just wait the year and take a WR in the Top 10 or 15 and have them locked in on a rookie contract. So whether it comes down to trading Burns for the WR or trading him for the picks that we'd then flip for the WR just depends on who is available, who we target, and what those teams want, but all roads point to Burns being the only legitimate asset to get that #1 WR for Bryce next year. And I don't know about you guys, but if it's Burns or a #1 WR to help Bryce's development, then it's not even a discussion.
