It’s one thing for the ST coach to say that we can make a 59 yard FG, but it’s another to game plan for a 59 yard FG versus game planning to try to get a much easier FG knowing the worst case scenario you know the limits. Our ST coach should absolutely know and say what the kicker’s limit is that day based on conditions and how the kicker is feeling/practicing.

He’s definitely overrated here. He’s been fine but 3.9 ypc isn’t amazing. He’d be better if we had a passing game but he’s a nugget of silver in a pile of poo. He’s no nugget of gold like CMC but he’s been a bright spot on a terrible offense. He’s still pretty replaceable like Singletary in Houston. Bills got rid of him to let Cook start and he’s been fine in Houston but he’s easily replaced. Swift got dumped by Detroit for Montgomery (dumped by Chicago) and Gibbs and he replaced Sanders with no issues. We just have a GM who legitimately can’t find talent anywhere and there was tons of cheap RB talent available.

I still think he was as good last year as this year. He had 4.9ypc last year, compared to 3.9ypc this year. The difference is that Foreman was actually a decent running mate (4.5ypc) and Foreman was the starter. Once we realized Fitterer made a bad acquisition and made Sanders (3.3 ypc) the backup, Chuba has put up better totals. Basically, Chuba has been Foreman this year and Sanders is 2022 Chuba just way worse. Overall, the running game was more effective last year at 4.6ypc to this year’s 3.9 ypc. Chuba appears better than last year because only he and Thielen have looked like NFL level starters this year. Sanders, TEs, Young and the other WRs have looked like backups for any competent offense. Heck, the OL was much better last year too.

And our best FA was Reddick from Rhule’s Temple days. Makes you realize how bad Fitterer really is.

This win signifies where we are as a franchise

I see your point on the botched snap. That used to be the MO to kick it early just in case, but you don’t see that anymore. I wonder if the % is just so low now. Maybe the chance of a botched snap that causes a miss at such short range is lower than a Hail Mary or kick return for a TD or a defensive penalty. As long as the holder catches it, any kick will be good from that distance, even hooks and slices. -
Top one was 3 seconds left in the 1st quarter and bottom was the game winning kick. It was absolutely very empty. The upper level was much more sparse but even the lower level was maybe 20-25% full, if that.

I paid 60 a piece to be 10 rows off the field with my son. We had a great time. The weather wasn’t bad at all. Constant, but pretty light ran. Ponchos from Amazon worked like a charm and we both wore a pair of waterproof boots that my middle son had for work and school. We didn’t even get cold until right at the end because the hands were out of the ponchos the entire last drive. We are 1-0 in person this season, so got that going for us. Other bonus was that we had our own area to ourselves. We stood the entire game with no one complaining behind us or blocking our view in front. Honestly might have been better to watch than a full house.

No, the FG was the right call. The conditions were fine. The wet ball would actually be more conducive to a fumble or a botched snap (Atlanta had that happen twice, but recovered both). A 20 yard FG is about as easy as it gets. The K doesn’t even need a full run up so no chance to get it blocked. Once Chubba got the second 1st down up close, kneeling down was 100% the correct move. The OP is completely wrong. Atlanta at that point had 0 timeouts and we could end the game on a 20 yard attempt. If Chubba scores, Atlanta had 1.5 minutes left to get a TD, which isn’t impossible. I remember telling my son that we had a great opportunity to get a first down at the 5 and seal the win with Atlanta not touching the ball. Tabor made 100% the correct call to give us the easiest chance to win and also keep the ball out of Atlanta’s hands. That 20 yard FG is way, way, way easier than a 1 yard TD run. -
It was exactly that. I’m sure there’s been a bunch of thunderstorms with way worse conditions in the past. We stayed the entire game, standing and the slight win changed directions but 30 mph gusts and poo would have been flying in our faces and we would have been miserable. WRs got open but they always got hit right away. Mingo had great separation as he got open and he could have easily broken up field and maybe scored if the ball hits him in stride. It took too long to get there and he has to slide and can’t run at all. I’m glad we won because it made for a fun game and great ending but I took all that and a great effort to barely win a game against Desmond Ridder.

I was at the game with a great view and every deep throw we connected on, it was painful to watch and wonder if the DB starting 10 yards away was going to get there in time or not. A real zip NFL arm and Tremble and Mingo would have been able to turn and get up field. The only one that wasn’t like that was Chark on the sideline. That was a really nice throw but it was thrown early. The others were Young spotting a guy open and they were not open by the time the ball got there. It was a great drive and my son and I had a blast but it was not ridiculous windy weather and the ball still took forever to get to wide open guys just like it has all year. I was glad for Young to get a win but it took an amazing drive to get us over 6 points of offense for the game. If the D doesn’t step up over and over, we don’t come close.

I was at the game and the one thing my son and I talked about was how long it took for the ball to get to wide open guys. Any NFL QB with some zip and our wide open guys had a chance to turn and gain some YAC. It was almost painful watching or should I say waiting for the ball to get to the receivers. The defenders who were way off got really close to making plays on some of the deep balls. I really enjoyed the last drive and we had a blast at the game because we won, but from a guy with a great view (row 13 in lower level, nobody in front of us), I still don’t think Young will be the guy. Yes, he had a great drive to win the game but the D kept Atlanta to 7 points otherwise we would have had no shot. It’s still really painful to watch an offense where if we are down by two scores, you can legitimately say the game is over. The D won the game, not Young. Young does not have an NFL arm. Were you actually at the game? I was there the whole game and there were no 30 mph gusts. The wind was barely noticeable. 30 mph gusts and we would have had rain in the face and our ponchos would have been flapping in the wind. I watched App State on Saturday and that was bad conditions, people couldn’t even hold onto the ball. We didn’t even have a turnover and Atlanta’s turnovers were a ridiculously inaccurate throw right to Woods and a great hit by Hill. The conditions weren’t great because of the wetness but please don’t act like that was the monsoon we heard would be there. It was a constant, almost light rain for 3 quarters with a medium rain on and off in the 4th quarter with very little wind. Believe me, if it was 30 mph gusts, the almost empty stands would have been empty. I was expecting much worse weather than we actually had and other than a wet ball, the conditions were fine to throw the ball.

Lol. Got a Christmas party in a couple hours, I’ll laugh at Young some more later.
-
That’s the other sad point. With Young starting, our games are miserable to watch.
-
Yea, the UDFA QBs who are making throws we haven’t seen Young make. Heck, both UDFAs got their teams 24 points even with their mistakes. Young has one game with 24 points in 12 starts and we were down 35-10 in the 4th so the Lions D was basically playing prevent. I hope you get that even if Young is better than these two, it’s sad that the number 1 overall pick is getting compared to UDFAs who have both been on multiple teams.
-
That or it’s out of bounds about 15 yards in front of Higgins. Young’s deep balls are not fun to watch.
-
Lol. Browning thought he was turning to escape pressure and Hunter just crushed him.
-
It’s “pulls a Bryce.”
-
It sure does suck watching two backup QBs and thinking to yourself that they are better than our #1 overall pick QB. I can’t believe my youngest son convinced me to buy some cheap tickets tomorrow so we could brave the monsoon. I must be insane, but at least it’s cheap!
-
Never mind. I misread.

This. People can make the Rhule and Tepper excuses but when we are making the exact same mistakes during Rhule, after Rhule was placed on probation (some folks in here stated Fitterer got more control in 2022 offseason) and after Rhule but Tepper was forcing him. I often asked people to give one example of a great move, just one, and no one could. Fitterer should have been gone with Rhule. Then maybe we wouldn’t have screwed up so much more.

Never liked Staley as a coach. He personified the gamble every time that people laud until they start losing games because of stupid decisions. He’s just a bad coach and the Chargers are perennial underachievers with a lot of talent. This game felt like a last straw type of game where he’s fired and it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
-
Put into a terrible position? It wouldn’t shock me at all if Brown and Fitterer were the instrumental guys in getting the almost universal consensus on Young. People want to blame everything on the Tepper’s but: In February, Brown made the initial “point guard mentality” reference: https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2023/02/23/panthers-oc-thomas-brown-introductory-press-conference-qb/ And in May basically said that Young was everything he thought he was going to be: https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/2023/05/13/panthers-oc-thomas-brown-bryce-young-rookie-minicamp-friday/ Do people still think that Tepper (who mentioned point guard after the draft) actually came up with that analogy? Fitterer said he had zero’d in on Young two seasons ago. Seems like Brown did a solid job of convincing Tepper about the point guard mentality and Fitterer is on record being giddy about his long crush on Young. I think Brown is more to blame about his terrible position than anyone else. Playbook, point guard Young and his play-calling.
-
No poo. It’s amazing how much the narrative has changed from before the draft and right after the draft to now. As if Brown didn’t discuss QBs as point guard in February. As if Fitterer didn’t say around the draft that he was locked on Young for 2 years. As if Reich did say he wanted Young the day after the draft. No idea why people want to make up excuses. It really weird that a 1-12 shot show has to have one bad guy that puppeteered everything instead of realizing we have a poo ass GM who helped in the hiring process of a poo ass coach and a poo ass owner who hasn’t made a correct hire yet. I mean we have threads and posts about rehiring Wills and Rivera. I can’t remember the exact wording, but we are the most delusional fans who cling onto the last good (or just not bad) thing as if we were a multi-SB winning franchise.
-
We need a QB desperately. Look at how much we lost to get Young because Wilks went 6-6. If we had just had the top pick by keeping Rhule, Young wouldn’t hurt so bad and we’d have a much more talented team when we went Maye/Williams in 2024. Winning with Dalton or PJ Walker hurts our future. We’ve screwed up our rebuilds for multiple years. Let’s stop doing that.
-
Some of you guys are delusional. Dalton beats the Saints by 2 scores? We lost 28-6. This team isn’t talented at all, especially on offense. Saints are 10th in scoring D and the Seahawks are 27th. We wouldn’t have score 28+. Wilks did well but we had a much better team last year. Darnold isn’t good but he’s not a noodle arm and we had Shaq, Moore, Horn (until Tampa and we saw how that went), Corbett, and Christensen. Heck, Burns still cared too. Foreman was also better than Sanders for us. We’ve got a few guys on D that I could see as long term talent, but the offense is dismal. Moton is likely our only talented maybe a few more years guy. Mingo is a who knows and Thielen is not a long term option. Iky is terrible and everyone just assumes he’ll be a great guard. Who knows.
