  1. Marty always had final roster say under JR, even when he was brought back as im"interim" GM. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article162361923.html
  2. You asked for an example. I gave you one. It just so happened to be arguably the greatest coach ever.
  3. Kinda seems like a bargain considering we're paying Teddy $17M this year to not play for us and we'll pay Darnold $18M next year to not play for us.
  4. Most don't spend the type of resources we spent to go after the likes of Teddy and Sam within the space of a year either. Most don't have to swallow their pride and go back and beg the guy they cut to come back. Most don't end up facing off against another guy they cut and that guy ending up looking like prime Drew Brees against them. Those last two instances happened within the space of the last two weeks.
  5. They didn't have roster control. Ron still doesn't. You being mad doesn't change that. This is gonna go the same way as when you asked specifically who would make a move like benching D-Jax today and I pointed out Belichick benching Malcolm Butler in the Super Bowl and you ghosted on that conversation.
  6. They didn't have final say on rosters. Rivera doesn't in Washington now either. Most NFL coaches don't. That's why it was such a big deal and so surprising for a first time NFL HC with minimal NFL experience to get it right out of the gate.
  7. He has final say. That's what the article from the Panthers' official website confirmed which is what I've said. Fitts has influence but control is on paper and the paper says Rhule.
  8. Texas has been flailing since they ran Mack Brown out of town and honestly, they had been flailing for the prior 15 or so years prior to hiring Mack Brown. The Mack Brown era has been the anomaly of Texas football during my lifetime. The rest of the time they've basically been nonfactors.
  9. It's not about the season, it's about today. What are you doing today? Name a coach? Bill Belichick benched #1 CB Malcolm Butler in the SUPER BOWL.
  10. I'm sure Fitts is having an influence on the trade activity, but it's not up for debate about Rhule having final say. https://www.panthers.com/news/matt-rhule-has-final-say-looking-to-build-relationship-with-gm
  11. Fitts is just a paper pusher for Rhule. Rhule has final roster say.
  12. That was probably more of a prisoner of the moment thinking considering Arizona was missing their MVP candidate QB and their likely HOF bound #1 WR.
  13. It was pretty clear fairly early that WFT's passing plan was pretty much "find #26 and throw to his guy". We should've yanked Dante at halftime. This is the second time in three weeks Rhule has failed to make an obvious depth chart move. Sam should've been yanked at halftime vs. the Pats, but Rhule wanted to give him a chance to "play through it". This is professional football. It's not about not hurting feelings. Do your job or we'll put in someone else and give them an opportunity.
  14. It's happened time and time again. I don't know if he's a flat out liar or if he just gets nervous and forgets how to "coach speak" when asked pointed questions about what he knows are going to be divisive decisions.
  15. “I’m really excited to coach Cam Newton,” Rhule said. “Just getting to know him, being around him, seeing the way he’s rehabbing, taking this seriously. I think if he does this right and we do this right, his best football is ahead of him.” Teddy was signed about two weeks later.
  16. Oh, we've sure seen "his guys" at QB. Please god no more of any of that.
  17. Good luck attracting a good OC when word will be out that your seat is hotter than lava.
  18. Our D was middle of the pack last year, not bottom 5. And honestly, it might end up middle of the pack again this year.
  19. Rhule wanted full control. This is what happens with full control - full accountability. Sam is here because Rhule wanted him here. Same as the other 52 guys. We'd be better off and Rhule would have more of a chance to succeed with a strong GM with final roster say. IF Rhule comes back next year, it needs to be without final roster say. He did nothing to earn that and he's shown he shouldn't have been given it. Want to come back? That's gotta go.
  20. Sure. He can have until the end of this one. Without strong signs he's developing though he can GTFO at the end of this season.
  21. Kelly actually looked promising in the NFL until Philly gave him roster control. That's when things spiraled on him. We gave Rhule that out of the gate. Rhule would've had a much better chance to succeed had he been paired with a strong GM. If he was demanding full control out of the gate then that should've been the red flag we needed to look elsewhere. Very few coaches are cut out for full control in the NFL and it took most of them years to prove themselves before they got it.
  22. Or draft picks. Wait... you're open to the idea of using an entire draft class on defense in a league that's been trending toward offense for two decades? Oh, you want to trade 2nd and 3rd round picks for other teams' 1st round pick busts? You want to overpay subpar vets to avoid spending draft picks on OL? Cool. Thanks for your time but I just want to be honest with you and let you know that we're going to be pursuing other candidates.
  23. I just see the ellipses as tears.
  24. I get it. It sucks to lose to a bad team when things were looking up. But to pretend there's literally nothing trending upward? Absurd. Our D was straight up open ass today. Trash. Yet we were in the game until the end because we actually have a QB now. Prior to Cam, this game would've been a curb stomping. Cam allows us to compete. Obviously we weren't good enough today to translate competing into winning, but two weeks ago we would've lost this game by 20+ points and it would've been over by the midway point of the 3rd quarter.
