The only issue I have with drafting a QB is the crew that will be evaluating and ultimately drafting that QB. I don't have much faith after the Teddy and Darnold debacles.
-
Yeah, when you make a trade like the Niners did for Lance you're really pushing all your chips to the table on a guy who's never taken a snap in the NFL. That's wildly risky.
-
Yeah, everyone laments that this class lacks the type of guys we wouldn't be in position to draft anyway at #6. Slam dunk QB prospects go #1 overall. And the last one of those that came out played so spectacularly that his team is once again drafting #1 overall.

Doesn't shock me considering they mortgaged their entire future on Trey Lance and that's looking like bust city. Meanwhile, the Panthers need to marinate extra hard on that. The team that had Jimmy G on the roster was willing to offer a 1st round pick for Sam Darnold. Oh wee fuging mayne. Stay all the way out on that deal.

Scouting reports for the top three quarterbacks
LinvilleGorge replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
Most analysts had Baker as a mid-late 1st rounder before it became clear the Browns were zeroing in on him. Hell, I always hated Darnold as a prospect. He had serious turnover issues dating back to college, both INTs and fumbles. At least some parts of his game translated to the NFL. -
Thoughts and prayers to @SizzleBuzz. It's gotta be rough on him watching players force themselves out of contracts left and right this off-season.

POLL: What Will It Take For You To Be OK With Keeping Rhule?
LinvilleGorge replied to travisura's topic in Carolina Panthers
Showing improvement over the course of the season. Showing development and evolving as a coach with good in-game adjustments. At least competing for a playoff berth. Falling short in any of those three categories should trigger a change IMO. -
Hate is a strong word. I strongly dislike Matt Rhule as our head coach.

I guess I'm weird. I would honestly take the Brady route. Give me good, but not top of the league good money and leave my team the cap space to give me a chance to compete for SBs. I mean, is "only" making say $20M per year instead of $25M per year really going to impact my financial quality of life? At some point, it's just all about ego and dick measuring.
-
Which begs the question of WHY. Mahomes and Hill have been one of the more electrifying QB/WR duos in recent memory. My bet is that going into the final year of his contract they've been talking an extension and he's shooting for top paid WR in the league and KC is balking and figuring it might be better long-term to get trade haul for him and let someone else give him that contract rather than rent him for another year and risk disgruntlement and possibly a holdout.

Scouting reports for the top three quarterbacks

I think there are really two reason why this is considered a "weak" class. One, because last year's class was so strong on paper. Two, because there's no slam dunk top prospect in this class. There's no Andrew Luck or Trevor Lawrence who checks all the boxes. There are some good prospects in this class but they all have question marks. Hell, that's a normal class. If you give me a third reason, it's because last year's strong class on paper didn't exactly light the world on fire on the field as rookies. -
Will drafting a rookie QB save Rhule?
LinvilleGorge replied to firefox1234's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's possible. If he drafts a rookie and that rookie shows promise and we show improvement on the field and get to around .500ish and legitimately compete for a playoff berth while improving throughout the season then yeah, I think that would buy him another year. And honestly I'm alright with that. In that case I honestly think he would've earned that. But do I think drafting a rookie should automatically give him a bye for this season? Hell no. He should absolutely be coaching for his job this year. -
Define "bust". Honestly, given his enormous hype if he doesn't develop into an MVP caliber QB then yeah, he's kind of a bust.
-
If you're a college coach recruiting kids then yeah, your relationship with high school programs matters a LOT. I think it matters a whole lot less for NFL coaches. Now if I'm an NFL coach, I absolutely want good ties with the top programs simply as an avenue to get good info on their draft prospects but I honestly don't give a single fug about my relationship with low level programs. At the end of the day, if I want your guys I'll draft them. I don't need them to make the decision to come here.
-
You only have so many scouts and there's a LOT of college programs. If no one there is high on our boards we very well may be better off sending those scouts elsewhere. No one would care about Jackson State's coach "shaming" NFL teams for not attending his pro day if that coach wasn't an NFL HOFer. I still don't.

My top 5 QBs go: Howell Corral Willis Pickett Ridder I honestly think only the top 3 have legit starter potential and Willis is boom or bust.
-
It'd be like giving the rest of the league a head's up on who you absolutely do NOT want.
-
I was pounding the table for Fields.
-
If you take Willis a year after passing on Fields I'm just baffled.
-
Oh, we know there's an order. Just ask Rhule. Pickett Pickett PickettPickettPickett

Yep. Five ACC football teams being ranked was a farce but basketball was highly underrated. Post season play has told the truth on both.
