More younger people with lower risk of severe disease are testing positive. Last week, the average age e of positive tests in Florida was 37. Early on in testing it was 60+. That's largely because in early stages of testing you weren't getting tested unless you were in a high risk group or you were rich or famous. With testing more available now, lower risk groups are getting tested. Nothing has significantly changed genetically within the virus. They're watching that like a hawk.

Tonight's rally will likely feature plenty of the most vulnerable. Elderly, obese, hypertension, diabetic. Packed tightly in an indoor space. With thousands of other people. Yelling and cheering. Spraying droplets everywhere. Proudly not wearing masks to "own the libs".
-
They're going to hand out masks at tonight's events as a CYA measure. Meanwhile, the demagogue will be on stage refusing to wear a mask and downplaying if not outright completely denying the ongoing pandemic. When the inevitable outbreak among attendees happen, they say, "Well, we handed out masks and told people they were attending at their own risk. They signed a waiver." in complete denial of the pivotal role they played in said outbreak.

While there was certainly some mask wearing going on at events, I also most certainly saw plenty of photo op pictures from politicians walking hand in hand with protestors without a mask in sight.
-
And most people are idiots, so... here we are with numbers spiking and people not taking even the most basic of precautions.

Go back a few pages and you'll find the answers you seek.

Well, he's set to hold a massive rally (including 17k indoors) in Tulsa, Oklahoma where cases are already currently spiking. It's pretty close to being a worst case scenario during a pandemic.

We don't know, so... LEEEEEEROY JEEEEEEEENKINS!!! it is, right? Damn, society is dumb. Starting to open back up is fine IMO. People refusing to wear masks or do even the most basic of prevention measures is really dumb and reckless though. Doing so as a political statement is the pinnacle of stupidity. There should be monuments built to commemorate such levels of stupidity being achieved.

Correlation doesn't equal causation. Reduced death rate could also indicate higher numbers of infection in less vulnerable populations and lower numbers of infection in more vulnerable populations.

Good. I hope the rumor is accurate

I said very early in this thread that I was told by someone with very good info that China was in a full blown pandemic by the time they reported to the WHO. They only reported once they knew for sure they couldn't contain it and it would escape their borders.

100% happened. Took less than a week of being back in NC.

Meanwhile, I got called an asshole in Ingles this afternoon. An old lady mocked my mask. I told her I'm not wearing it for me but to help people like you. She asked how so. I told her that the primary risk factors for severe illness from COVID are elderly age, obesity, high blood pressure, and heart disease. How many of those describe you? Hint: it was certainly two and likely all of the above. She called me an asshole. I simply replied yeah, I know. LOL!

If you're expecting a vaccine to be ready in time for the election to impact it's arrival by removing red tape, I think your timeline is way off on this

Technology can't replace trials. Technology can help in the development but trials are trials.

Im tellin' y'all... ain't nuthin but a librul conspirsy

I think we need to start opening back up, but I think masks need to be required on a national level. They're remarkably effective at limiting the spread of this disease.
-
Imagine being so selfish and stupid that you think that refusing to wear a mask to protect others from a potentially deadly pandemic virus is infringing upon your freedom. It isn't about reopening. It's about refusing to take even the most basic least intrusive action to protect your neighbors because you're a selfish fuging asshole. It's a powerful stupidity.
-
NY definitely screwed up horribly and that's why I'm dumbfounded that they're trying to make Cuomo out to be some national hero. Having a brother who is one of those most prominent news anchors in the country is a big help in that endeavor.
-
All this is accurate, but it's the trial phase of vaccine development that takes the longest and there's really no way to responsibly speed up that process. A vaccine by next spring would still be producing a vaccine in a year and a half which is less than a third of the time the fastest vaccine has ever been developed. I think it's possible, but I think the people banking on a vaccine prior to the coming cold/flu season in the fall are just not being realistic.
-
A vaccine by next spring would still be unbelievably quick. Ebola currently holds the record and that's still 5 years.

I spent the last couple of days driving across the country from CO to NC. Mask wearing in CO ranges from near 100% in my town to above 50% most places. Mask wearing in Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, and NC has been hovering very near zero.

The problem is that unless you're wearing a legit N95 respirator, your mask is only protecting others from you, not you from others. If you're out and about wearing your cloth mask or surgical mask while everyone else is wearing nothing, you're really not that much more protected than if you were also wearing nothing. It's why we need municipalities to pass legislation forcing mask wearing for awhile with steep fines for not doing so. People are just too damn dumb to listen to recommendations to wear them and way too many are in the elite dumbass category where they view not wearing a mask as some sort of political statement.
