Yeah, Bryce actually started playing when we had nothing left to play for. Kinda like yesterday.

Is Hendon Hooker that bad he can't get a shot??
LinvilleGorge replied to Jmac's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's not just "week two". Bryce has started 30 games at this point and it's still the same poo. Unless the opposing defense is playing Charmin soft and we seemingly have nothing to play for, Bryce can't do anything. I'd rather try to land a Jameis Winston or Sam Howell for a late round pick than play Hooker but at this point we gotta try something else. -
Brooks isn't "unfortunate". We drafted a RB coming off of a torn ACL. I give GMs a pass for drafting guys that run into injury issues while having no medical red flags coming in. It's football, it happens. But when you draft a guy with medical red flags and then he continues to get injured you gotta own that. You took a calculated risk and lost.

I want to see the All 22 footage of that final "drive". -

I'd rather have a raffle to pick a random fan to start at QB than see Bryce trot out there again. That actually sounds wildly entertaining. I'd actually MUCH rather have that. LOL -
Arch. How's that working out in Austin? LOL

He's a panicker. He panicked last week and threw the ball away on 4th down. He panicked this week right out of the gates and then settled down once he thought the game was lost just to panic again when he saw that we actually had a chance. His confidence is absolutely shot at this point.

5 wins? With Bryce at QB, this defense, and already down two starting OL? Man, I don't think we can beat anybody in the league unless they hand us the game.
-
Have you seen the guys he drafted last year?

What are you expecting or hoping to see out of Bryce? Yesterday absolutely killed any sliver of hope I was hanging onto. When we recovered that onside kick I was thinking, okay here's his chance. He's been having a really good second half while the opposing D has been playing soft protecting a big lead, his confidence had to be brimming, so let's see it. Here's his chance to actually show us something in a meaningful situation with a chance to go to 1-1 vs. 0-2. That's a massive difference. Historically speaking, your odds of making the playoffs are about 44% at 1-1. They plummet to 12% at 0-2. At 1-1 your season is very much alive and you're in the fight. At 0-2 you're already in panic mode because if you drop to 0-3 now you have a 3% chance at the playoffs statistically speaking. Your season is practically over before a leaf has changed. Anyway, I got sidetracked... so, Bryce takes the field with a legit opportunity for a meaningful game winning drive while playing well and what happens? He IMMEDIATELY reverts back to looking terrible. Looking timid. Looking unsure. Taking bad sacks. Missing throws badly. The refs threw flag after flag after flag giving us second and third chances and he just couldn't do anything with it. Oh, and I should add... all of this game against a defense that was missing practically it's entire starting secondary due to injuries at this point. It was an absolutely golden gift wrapped opportunity and he absolutely blew it. He didn't just blow it, he didn't even give us a chance. Practically every other starter and most of the #2s in the league are at LEAST gonna give you a fighting chance in that scenario. I've seen enough. I'm all the way out. This dude ain't it and those last two minutes proved it for me. Bryce seems like a legitimately good guy. A guy you'd be happy with your daughter dating. But he ain't an NFL QB. -
I thought it was insane to fire Tepperer and then hand the reins over to his hand picked right-hand man in the first place. *I just realized I typed "Tepperer" instead of "Fitterer". LOL! Fug it, I'm leaving it. Seems extremely fitting.

It's not about opening the checkbook. It's that veteran pro bowl QBs aren't available. Their teams aren't parting ways with them.
-
Oh, I agree. I've said I'm all for bringing in someone like Howell or Jameis. IMO, when you don't have a QB you have to pursue all potential avenues. Look at the draft, look at free agency, look at the trade market. Sometimes you luck into an answer where you don't expect it. We didn't truly expect Jake to be the answer. I don't think the Lions expected Goff to be their answer when they got him included in the Stafford trade, they probably just wanted him as a bridge QB. Just look for ways to improve your roster. It doesn't seem like we do that. We think we have boxes checked and just don't even look to potentially improve. Oh, we have Andy Dalton we're good at backup QB.

The problem is that finding a vet is probably an even taller task than finding a QB in the draft. Teams aren't in the habit of letting go of serviceable QBs. There aren't any vets available who their team hasn't decided that either A) this guy isn't a starter or B) this guy is washed. That's pretty much the entirety of veteran QBs that are available. It's not about next season. Forget about next season. Our biggest issue i. The Teller era is that we've constantly been focused on how we can be the best bad team we can be next season. This has clouded our ability to actually try to build a roster that can sustain success. It's just constant knee jerk band aid approaches.

I think Bijan Robinson is gonna run wild on us.

I don't know right now. Not super impressed with anyone at the moment but there's a lot of football yet to play.
-
I think McCarthy has the right mentality to make it as a QB I'm just not sure he's a good enough QB to make it as a QB in the NFL. He's just not an NFL level passer right now. His accuracy is really sporadic and you can tell he's really straining when he has to put some mustard on it and then his accuracy issues show up even more. He's got a lot of improving to do as a pure thrower of the football if he's gonna make it.

A real barn burner of a game this evening. 7 combined FGs. Zero TDs. LOL

I'm ready to see anything other than Bryce Young. -
If he's gonna last in the league it's probably as a gadget player. The problem is that he hasn't shown much of anything with the ball in his hands either.
-
And if you're gonna draft a project, draft a young one not a guy who's already as old on draft day as a lot of second and even third year pros.

So, just what is it that makes a QB "elite"?
LinvilleGorge replied to Brooklyn 3.0's topic in Carolina Panthers
Or the last two minutes when somehow you actually shockingly have a chance to win the game and the refs are trying to drag you across the finish line and yet you still refuse to cooperate. -

How is it bashing? What physical asset does Bryce have that isn't subpar at the NFL level? What physical asset does he have that is superior to Murray's? -

Murray pretty much has all the tools minus size. Big difference from Bryce who has none of the tools plus none of the size and while similar height I'd bet Murray has at least 20 pounds on Bryce, maybe more.
