But I'm talking specifically about the types of candidates we seem to be seeking. Career NFL coaches with long resumes. Former NFL head coaches. Guys on first name basis with someone in virtually every NFL coaching tree. Why does someone like THAT sign up for this gig?

Per Ellis/Glazer Rhule not exactly “safe”

Based on what? Not being a smartass, legit question. -

And a coach on the hottest seat in the league. IF this is true, this just feels like scapegoating. If you want to fire him, fire him. You don't need this ex use of an ultimatum. There's two years of utter failure to point to.- 162 replies

This is so weird and dysfunctional. If you want to fire Rhule, fire Rhule. But this just feels like setting him up to fail and then using this as the excuse. These two seasons of utter failure is all the excuse you need.

Why did they use a picture of a Carolinas' Goodwill store for that article? -
Yep. The Saints are probably going to be right back in the mix as a contender next year after addressing QB. Unlike us, they're an ideal destination for a good veteran QB.

This. Complacency doesn't make a "good fan" or a "real fan". It makes a sucker. The Panthers may have never established consistent success but we used to have sporadic success. Then along came David Tepper...

With no QB? No OL? A meddling college coach? Not exactly an ideal stepping stone gig unless it's a stepping stone to retirement.

Herbert terrified me as a prospect because of how terrified Oregon's coaches were to take the leash off of him. In hindsight, that was 100% on the coaches and was likely discovered by NFL teams during the interview process. The game tape showed the physical talent was absolutely there.

The guy quietly did his job perfectly for years in a role you literally never notice unless they royally fug up.

Tepper still thinks he's trying to keep the Titanic afloat, meanwhile the Titanic is currently already halfway to the bottom of the north Atlantic and just split in half.

The most intriguing match up today might be the Raiders vs. Chargers. The winner goes to the playoffs. The loser goes home.

Kinda like you following me around to complain? Talk about the other games or STFU.

This post is probably better suited here as this is the more active thread: I'm gonna be honest and objective about this. Look at the situation. We have a college coach who has won 10 games in two seasons. He is expected to go into next season on the hottest seat in the league. We are flailing at QB with terrible moves that are hamstringing both our draft capital and our cap space and are almost certainly poised to make another one of those moves in the near future. We have no OL. We have some nice weapons at WR and arguably the best all-around (yet injury plagued) RB in the NFL, but we reportedly plan on shopping him. If I was a legit candidate, why would I even consider this gig, especially if I'm a former HC with likely a plethora of NFL connections? Honestly, the only real answer I'm coming up with is that I already have one foot out the door of coaching and I'm looking to fleece Tepper out of a retirement check to buy another vacation home and a fishing boat. The best "positive" answer I can come up with is that I figure Rhule is certain to get fired because he's not cut out for the NFL and I think I can get an audition as the HC if Rhule gets fired mid-season. Tepper may be brilliant in the world of finance, but he's probably the biggest sucker in football right now and the word is out.

So Who Can/Should we Get as our New OC if Rhule Stays?

That's what you're doing. I'm making a thread to discuss the other games on today (like we have everyday that there non-Panthers NFL football being played). Do that or GTFO.

There's some meaningful football being played today. Here's a thread where we can discuss those games.

Honestly, I can't agree with the "thank god" part of the title. This isn't the end of this nightmare. The nightmare continues as long as Rhule is here. That much I've known for several weeks now. What is becoming more clear to me is that the reality might be deeper than that. This nightmare might continue for as long as Tepper is the owner. The guy has made horrific football moves as an owner and I'm seeing no light at the end of that tunnel. -

Honestly, I'll probably watch the Chargers vs. Raiders. That's the most meaningful mid-afternoon game on. The winner is playoff bound, the loser is done. -

A reminder of how insignificant the remainder of Rhule's contract is to David Tepper -
My guess would be the Packers over the Chiefs but there are no truly dominant teams this year. Would I be shocked to see the Rams there or the Titan there? Not in the least.

Meanwhile, you spout these "until the wheels fall off" lines while you sit in the passenger's seat watching the wheels crest the horizon. I haven't quite yet given up hope on Tepper waking up and firing Rhule. Until I do, I won't completely give up hope on the Panthers. But yeah, it's very, very close. Once it's clear that Rhule is back I'm just gonna hope like hell we don't draft Sam Howell into this dumpster fire.bat that point, yeah I'm pretty much done until the next reset.

Meanwhile, Tepper's and Rhule's Panthers...
